😵💫Whirlpool Washer That Won’t Spin and Is Slipping | Quick Basket Hub Fix | WTW5000DW1 😵💫
Thanks for watching!
This was just a quick basket hub fix.
Got lucky and the hub came out fine. This one was apparently repaired before. I tried to get a metal hub in it. But they wanted to just try the plastic again. If it strips again it will be new washer or new gearcase time. DIY at your own risk. #whirlpoolwasher #laundryappliances #homeappliance #diy #washingmachinerepair

Old school
@@AllenRider-wp2uz gotta love it. Sometimes the best thing to do is to take the most common failure and put in the old schools timer that just works. 👍 thanks for watching.
Old skool! I might have missed it but I didn't hear you explain what the symptoms were. You started by saying the frig was at temp and you needed to check the defrost board. Was the complaint it was icing up? If the board is bad I assume the test bypasses it and puts it into defrost?
@@scotts4125 yes the test bypasses auto defrost and manually defrosts it. But the unit came in with the controls jacked up. And usually that means 95% of the time it had a problem. So I’m kinda just taking a little preventative measure changing the defrost control out. Because they are the most common failure. If the unit is running and cycling fine. I was betting on a defrost problem.
Just so you know, that particular wiring set up is going to the timers motor run continuously making the refrigerator defrost every eight hours regardless, if it needs it or not. What manufacturers generally try to do is have the timer only count out the eight hours while the refrigerator is running( thermostat closed). This makes the refrigerator some what adaptive to the environment, so the refrigerator would only defrost every eight hours of run time. Check out this wiring schematic. Part number. W10142142A This is from a similar model(slightly older) that came factory with a mechanical timer. Model number of refrigerator with timer. ET8WTKXKQ0 As a note, on certain models of refrigerators, you can just unplug the board and plug it right onto a mechanical timer, but you have to review the wiring schematic to make sure this will work.

@@steelhorses2004 the old schools timer timer just works. This one goes into every 8.5 hours. Old schools timer for the win.
@@steelhorses2004 thanks for chatting with me and watching steel.
I have two theories, for what they're worth. First, using solid state logic, you can lower your quality controls, produce working stuff which is not even remotely close to tolerances and let the 'computer' keep it running well. Second, due to their nature, it seems almost impossible to build some appliances to last out their warranty (minimum two years in Europe and it's all a global market) and not have them last for many, many years. So, you put in electronic controls which have weak points (there are repair kits on the Internet for the most common capacitor/diode/resistor failures of the Whirlpool family washers) like this control board. Then, you price the replacements sky-high. The number of cycles they'll survive until they fail puts them past the warranty period, especially in the US where it's super short, and then, poof! is it really worth the service call and the labor and the part to fix it? LAapplianceguy is offering a way to fight back!
@ it seems to go in cycles. The parts will be high. Then they will come down. I have a theory that they price those parts high to sell inventory and then. Lower the cost when they need to move parts. I don’t know just a thought. Thanks for the positive feedback as always.
@@LAapplianceguy I don't know appliances like you do, but in my main branch and my brother's trade, it's that way for sure.
