    To say Tracy Allen has a passion for dry fly steelhead fishing is an understatement. Wild steelhead on the Clearwater River in Idaho are ritualistically appreciated and protected by those who hunt them. The world of steelhead fishing, while revered by those caught in its rapture, is not for everyone nor is it easy to describe. A simple cliché will do. Poetry. Thanks for watching.

    I'll tell you the answer. These corporate ass holes that are all over these rivers, need not be. Screw these guides. The state should limit the crowding. 200 boats a day with bobbers going down the MO. You think these guides are good guides? What a joke. They float down the river, keeping the boat even with their clients bobber and you calll this guiding? 98% of these clients cant even cast. They just want numbers and oics for their social media. Why are they even fly fishing? Get off the rivers and go back to California. Guides have done nothing but ruined and exploited these rivers for profits and they've done nothing productive for the sport. They cant even handle fish properly. And you think these guides that don't teach a thing should get more money? Maybe they should get a real job. Fly fishing now is a trendy joke. I've never seen worse anglers in my life. Lazy asses that dont learn a thing. And you say they guide from dawn to dusk? Do you even fish? When was the last time a guide was even out after 5 PM? Are you living on this planet?

    • @AmericanCurrentsStories
      @AmericanCurrentsStories 2 месяца назад

      Yes. Fair observations. No question there are WAY too many with questionable qualification. It might help to put some nuance to the opinions here. The full-time guides who ARE great guides, and I’ve been fortunate enough to know a few, can’t continue at the current rates given the changing economics.. regardless of blame for its origins. The market will weed out the hacks. And yes. We have fished many many outings from dawn till dusk. Guides like Bloom who have been on the MO since the 90’s… are fishermen first. Great, local, lifetime guides who are the best. I can tell by your comments that we’d sincerely enjoy your company because you know what is happening to our great fishery. We continue to hope we haven’t reached the point of no return.

  • @Codyd99749

    This comment section is so fucked. Of course it's a problem for people to breathe down your neck when you are catching. They'll park boats in your drift, they row right through the pod of fish. Its a problem if you can give people a Little room it ruins the experience

    Fly fisherman a a fickle group , I’ve been fly fishing since 1959 and have noticed in the past 25 ish years more fly fisherman that are snobby and I really don’t know why but they are . They look at people fishing with anything other than a fly as lesser of fisherman . I was at the ramp in Craig rigging up in the parking lot and next to me was a guy getting ready to head out also , he looks over at me and smiled and said ya know I’m a purest , I only fish with worms 🪱 I think he was checking to see if I was snobby :-) thanks for sharing

    So in other words, the fish biz is in a death spiral.........................GOOD. Who thought it would be a good idea to turn a little "sport" that few people took seriously, in places that had limited resources (rivers) that could only support a limited number of people before it beat itself right to death. They turned fly fishing into a lifestyle sport and now the glory days are waaaaaaay behind them. No fish, no people no revenue for you. Go get a real job.

    I guess I'm a snob too. Fished all year in Montana and Michigan and never once tied on an indicator. That said - streamers are my replacement for nymph fishing when the dry fly bite is off. I find it much more enjoyable. But if catching is your goal - there's no doubt nymphing is King.

    I was lucky enough to fish for giant brookies in Labrador on mostly dries. But, I go with whats happening. No hatch, no dries, its a waste of time. One day in Labrador it was very windy and the guide suggested we troll streamers. On the down wind side of a small island was a small area of flat water. Ther was a guy from camp beating the water with dries and when we went by him he made some remarks about our " long casts". The words were no sooner out of his mouth when I hooked up with a three pounder right next to him. Two more times around the island and he said something each time, we hooked up each time. It was beautiful, he was a very pretentious d-bag(guides hated him). Next time around the island he was trolling with TWO rods!

    Dry fly purists are dickweeds. I've fly fished for over 45 years and laugh at all these dorks on the Henry's fork in their expensive Sims gear. I use what works and it's a mixture of dry and nymphs. One day I was on the Henry's fork and walked up to 2 guys fishing. I asked them how fishing was going and one of the guys said he had 1 and 1/2 trout take his dry fly in 3 days of fishing. I went 100 yards upstream and second cast caught a 4 lb rainbow on a nymph. I released it because you have to. Those guys packed up their gear and left immediately. Tried to make me feel like I was fishing with a bucket of worms. I just laughed at them and their 1 and 1/2 trout fishing report. Total jackasses.

    I’m the opposite. I don’t mind at all how I catch them, dry or nymph or if I catch 15 8” Brookies to someones 20 inchers. Size doesn’t matter, it’s all about the time on the river/creek. People are snobby about their gear, rods and reels this is also goofy as shit. To all those new guys out there thinking about getting started in fly fishing, you don’t have to look like you stepped out of an Orvis catalog. You can fly fish and catch fish with a tree branch, some line and a common fly. In fact I would encourage those who haven’t done this to get their peeps together and spend the day just fishing against each other with a tree branch. It will up your game and make you be more strategic when on the water. It’s also a great story between friends.

    When I was a kid my favorite fishing was on a stream with a fly rod and a Pautzke egg with a split shot. It was so much fun to catch a small trout on a fly rod. So it was the fly rod that made it fun. Later I started using flies. Never thought about technique or dry fly or wet fly. I ran into the worst snobs when fishing for Steelhead on the Umpqua in Oregon. The absolute worst people to be around. Snob is just another way of saying asshole.
