It is impossible for bands to replace singers, musicians who made their unique and memorable imprint on an era. Perry is like no other and will forever be my favorite. That being said, Journey should have looked for someone with a dynamic voice like Dean’s when Perry originally left the band. Not someone who was a copy but someone who had the talent to make these songs their own and the power to make the audience truly live in that moment and in those emotions. Just like a great author or story teller can transport you to another world, time or place. Dean does that beautifully.

Just seen Journey in Fenway the other day. Great show but wish Dean got to sing more than one song. Love Arnel but I personally think Dean should be the guy,I had people there that never seen him before and they were blown away by his singing and drumming!!

Deen totally eclipes Arnel here. Arnel is OK. I like his humble story but I would not call him one of the "greatest" front-men, Journey has ever had! It's just not what he is. Mediocre at best with a great life story. A truly great life story!
I keep coming back to this... even if Deen weren't playing drums, he would still be the best singer of this song since Steve. The fact that he's singing AND drumming simultaneously at an elite level is more impressive than most people realize.
The way he vocalizes "Chasing Thunder" at 1:40 - 1:50 is just awesomely perfect. Pitch, tremolo, just a touch of rasp, all blended with absolute perfection.

I've seen them live many times and although this is an amazing performance, I've heard him sound better. He is truly an awesome performer.

Deen for sure is the closest to matching Perry's style of anyone. Same range and rasp. Sorry but he is better than Pineda. Incredible voice.
