Isn't this banned in competition now? Or is that just under a certain age? I remember they made us all un band our hurleys years back before we could play for our parish. This was in Kerry near Tralee.

Conor, Many thanks for your enquiry, please see below, you can have any combination of the different items. “Master Mac” bander (manual) €90 Roll band (100ft) €15 Nails ( 15mm , 500gr, 1000 nails) €15 Glue (Puracol) €15 Carriage, Fastway Couriers €7 Total cost delivered, €142 Payment is by postal order . Please ring me with your details, address etc and I will give you my details. When the postal order arrives the kit goes out the same day by Fastway Couriers to arrive next day. Instructions come with it but I recommend a viewing of the demo on the Donedeal advert. You can also view it on www.mastermac.ie The band comes in rolls of 100ft, enough to put a single band on approx. 80 hurleys. The band is the standard 16mm in width, but what is critical about it is the thickness which is 0.4mm. Other banding can vary between 0.5 and 0.8mm in thickness and as such can be too heavy for the hurley especially if you need to fit two bands. This creates an obvious weight increase to the hurley. Handy work there with the banding, is there anyway to lenghten a hurl I have a hurl from when I was younger but its about 2 inches two small! anyway to lenghten it?

Ash tree (what Hurls are made from because it has a give in it (bends) unlike beech). We need more Native trees Ash, "Irish Oak" in Ireland (beech is not Native to Ireland). Only 5% of land in Ireland is under trees and the majority of that 5% the trees are in our headge rows!! "Ireland" the least wooded part of western Europe.

Liam, The nails that are being used are 16mm long with a nice flat head. If you are banding a very light hurley you may need to shorten the nail with a snips before driving it. Be careful when trimming the nail that the offcut does not enter your eye !!

What size nails are being used here ?

John, I supply the banding countrywide, I sell it in rolls of 100ft for €15 plus carriage of €7 (up to 30kg) The band is 16mm wide and what is critical about it is that it is 4mm in thickness. Where can I source the banding in Ireland

Yes I can do it without a vice, i do it that way most of the time. I place the handle of the hurley under my left armpit, with bas forward and heel pointing upwards. It takes a bit of practice to become proficient. When you use the vice though , both of your hands are free which is an advantage, Regars , George "Master Mac"

You should use longer hails and put them thru the hoop at the other side and clinch them, otherwise all the nails will become lose over time.
