Anything bigger than 240volts is too scary for me

Great work bro...i havent done that big myself 😂 so hats off 👏 great job and intriguing and interesting 👍 I am abit bored so be great to get into something new if knew how.😮😮
Cheers mate, appreciate it 🤝🏻 I started doin hv works 10 yrs ago. I was a spark before but fancied a change.
@hvsparky give me hope as something different and nice to progress into new electrical adventures! Thanks for replying 🙂
Any machine shop or someone with a hobby lathe would be able to knock you up a replacement handle for the insulation stripper. Just need to know the right threads. Plastic ball handle you can get from eBay or old style gear lever handle from car parts.
Great shout! Thanks for the help 🤝🏻
You only need a Stanley knife, hacksaw and an angle grinder 😉😂 Have you considered a hydraulic/powered cable cutter?
Just a ruler and knife you need 🫣🤣 i’ve used them in the past but always preferred the band saw!
Wish I could see your tool
Any time Jake 😘
I jointed half of Manchester with a core knife and a roll of black tape
Back in the day eh? 🫡
@ aye pal, back in them old days when women didn’t have cocks
👀
I haven’t got sound? 😂….. edit: I have now 😂 must have been my RUclips
Dont say that 🥴😂
@@hvsparky just me been a div 😂 How’s work been for you on the HV end? Have you seen a drop off in work?
@@Jake_Baker_Electrician1997 yea works been good thanks, It always goes quiet towards Christmas not many projects tend to start. But we do have a load of straight joints and end terms to do down south before xmas 🥴
@@hvsparky good stuff 👍🏻 Fair enough wasn’t sure if HV side was busy throughout the year, we are the same quiet towards Christmas Food factory to test in Leicestershire next week though 😩 keeps me busy so shouldn’t complain too much 😂 Lovely! Are you based up North like me? I’m West Yorkshire based but work all over
@ im based West Midlands but work all over pretty much mate 👍🏻
I'm back been on a long holiday chaps, whats good, whats new whats coming next.. Big transformer mate, are you terminating both high side and the low voltage. Please next time do show the connectorS from switch room to transformer, current transformer and onto switchgear over the busbar and out onto the outgoing line and I take it the 33kV will connect to a 33kV transition line right? Or it gets boosted or lowered
How was the holiday mate? I got a few bits planned, been quiet recently on youtube because we have been busy. Just the 33kV side on this job, i think the 132kV comes from the overhead lines. Yea next time ill show inside from the switchroom to the transformer!
@@hvsparky it was a blast, cant lie inherited a massive farm from Nana. Got a plan for biomethane digester, a purification system and into a CHP just like gas turbine you terminated to run the farm and sell to the grid. Switch room to the transformer would be awesome, would love to see the breakers, your isolation method, busbars and how you earn or ground Medium Voltage switchboard. Cant wait on your next instalment mate, love your content I do
@@ProductionSession Wow, that sounds like an incredible project! A biomethane digester and CHP system is next-level thinking - love the sustainable approach! Stay tuned for the next instalment, and thanks for the kind words and support it means a lot! Best of luck with the farm project; sounds like you’re doing something amazing! 💪⚡
@@hvsparky its my fantasy to actually pull it off on a large scale but sometimes life, family and bills get in the way but staying focused. To be fair I long for notification of some of your content. Its the dogs bullocks. Everyone of your clip is of rare working environments plus the tech is top notch I enjoy it proper
Suspiciously skilful with the lubricant 😂
😂😂 experience that is 🥴
Sub & waiting for new video 🦭
Thanks mate 🤝🏻 Im working in it 💪🏻💪🏻
Do you check if the other side of the cable is grounded? Greetings from the Netherlands
Greetings from the uk 🫡 this is a new site, and wasn’t connected to the grid! So everything was dead (not live)
Dude, safety glasses with all power tools with baldes, take it from one that would have been one eyed if not for glasses, and i dont know if its the angle of the camera, but dont cut down in your leg.
Thanks mate 🤦🏼♂️🫡 i’ll make sure to next time 💪🏻
Just curious, how did you arrive at 500mm square?
How did i arrive? Pulled up in the van 🚐🫣 Na just joking, its what it is pal, its printed on the cable.
What is that outer bit of copper wire for is that a ground?
The screen wires disperse the circulating currents of the HV cable 👍🏻👍🏻
Just found your video, really cool mate. As a self employed domestic/commercial standard sparky, I feel basic 🤣 I’ve started subbing to an industrial firm in the hope to dip my toes into the proper work, and one day hopefully Hv too. Very inspiring video 👍🏼 can I come to work with you 🤣
Thanks for your comment, glad you find my video cool. Sounds good mate, i started out as a sparky and then started jointing. 💪🏻💪🏻
Devvo 😂😂
Devvoo mateeeeeeee 😂🫣
Just drove past you on my way to openshaw tmc campus for my l2 electrical install workshop night. PHD, anyway never thought you were local to me.
No way! Were you in a grey transporter by any chance?
Nice work 👏 😊
Thank you 💪🏻
I really wanted to see you cut the tape.😅
🫣😂
We’ve just recently switched to the repl terms on the 11kv and I’m not much of a fan. They never land in the right place on the lug and they’re instantly tight as soon as they’ve shrunk so there’s no movement up and down. Looks like the 33’s are the same crack 🙄 Don’t tell anybody but I put a very thin smear of silicone grease around the bit of the lug that they land on and you can then get a bit of movement so they’re in the right place 🤫
It was the first time ive done the REPL cold shrinks before, and wasnt sure why you use silicone grease with copper screen tape and not with the screen wires 🥴🥴 But yea your right, they dont quite land where you want them!
@@hvsparky I’ve never done 33 so not sure what you mean about the grease. We’re generally doing them in boxes so put flexible boots over them, so I just use a blob out of the boot kit.
👍
Just wondering with this high voltage works that you often do is it often high current or is the cable simply very big because it runs along distant at high voltage as it seems kind of counterintuitive to use a very big cable whilst being high voltage or is it all about voltage drop?
Im not the person that designs what cable goes in where, but usually to do with loading in terms of what size cable goes in.
It’s a 185mm conductor but it’s made of aluminium . The copper equivalent would be roughly half the size . At this voltage a 2MVA transformer only needs around 100 amps per phase on the primary side to output 2000 amps on the secondary side. To conclude 185mm aluminium isn’t very big …
Fish and a ricecake
I wake up, i have fish then a ricecake. Train have fish…
Great yank my dude 😂
Im not left handed 🥴😂😂
@@hvsparky me either 😉😂😂😂
bit more stability on the camera would be good, makes things bit dizzy. really interested in the technical side of this, love to see why what you do, explain the abbreviation etc what each bit does etc. its a mix up of all these things is good. bit more talking on why you do each step etc... very few people know anything about hv work. anyway will keep watching 👍
Thanks for the feedback, appreciate it 💪🏻 I do have a longer video on my channel where i go fully into detail on each step. You should check that out at some point and see what you think. Thank you for watching 🙏🏼
I had tennis elbow for 6months last year . What a pain in the ass . I got rid of it by forearm curling a barbell strengthening the forearm muscles
Thanks for the advice, ill give it ago 🤝🏻💪🏻
Now then pal . Is that the outgoing side of the tx ? Didn’t think you lads would have neutrals ?
The Hv has no neutral, this end comes directly from the switch room and the end i’m working on is the gas engine side. So im not sure why there is a neutral connection in this box 🫣🥴
Probably stupid question but what is the copper armour for , bonding? I presume 3 phase 11kv delta
Hi mate, no it isn’t a stupid question, basically the screen wires disperse the circulating currents of the HV cable.
Yes boysss another good video, loving the pfffisssstttttpurrrurrrs 😂
Thanks Mike 👌🏻 glad you loved the pppppfffiiisistirrrrrreeerrsss 😂😂😂😂
get together please..I will give anything for you boyz to kick it n mingle please wow...that will be a treat for sure
GOOD BANTER THAT BETWEEN THE LADS, AWESOME. YOU BOYS PLAYING WITH MASSIVE CONDUCTORS MUST BE PAIN JUST BENDING THESE INTO THE SWITCHGEAR..BY THE WAY IS THAT A SWITCHGEAR OR TRANSFORMER?
Got to have good banter, makes the day go by 👌🏻😂 yea these were 630mm ally cables, they dont bend much 😂😂. Yea these are being terminated into switchgear. 👍🏻
@@hvsparky true professionals you lads are. hats off considering the insane voltage levels you boys man handle on a daily. besides I notice the wire strands of each conductor phase are linked up and joined at the copper bus bar, is that earthing or bonding? how's the switchgear housing earthed ?
@@ProductionSession Thanks for the support, mate! 💪🏻💪🏻 Just to clarify, the screen wires are connected to the earth bar to help disperse circulating currents. Plus, the substation is equipped with an earth mat which usually goes around the perimeter. We dont install this though.
@@hvsparky I love the jobs you guys do no word of lie mate I get excited seeing your notifications. Please get with residual and do a crazy video for us mate....wow just the thought
cant believe you terminating a CHP engine. Are you at a energy facility, biogas farm, sewage plant or just energy recovery. Mate I'm in the process of doing a gas or steam fired CHP using a lorry engine to power my farm, warehouse and factory plus a bio digester to make more gas. I love this wish you took more moving pics of inside engine and generator type maybe control board, Please do a longer one if you are still on site mate. Awesome amazing job
Thought these were gas turbines but are just 4-stroke gas bangers. Far from efficient these turds, diesel wins every time but I spose, grid supplimenting and gas is all that is there. Single turbine would hand them a new cake-hole. Sorry but video was boring a bat-s###, was exptecting more.
Sorry Benny, i don't know a lot about gas generators, or diesel. I'll make sure my next video aint like bat s##t 😱
@@hvsparky All good buddy, you had way more patients for those way over-complicated terminations than I did back in my day but then again, we were dealling with LV, not HV (well, we topped out at 1,100VAC). When you get a look at a Gas Turbine in operation, you will have a huge learning expirience.
These aren’t meant to be efficient, but they’re meant to be quite cost-effective and quite instantaneous for power so it’s worth it then sometimes
