Imagine it's October 26, 2012 (it's turning 12 in a few days, fun fact), you just came home from your retailer with a copy of Windows 8. How might the upgrade procedure (from Windows 7) go for you? Today, we explore this by doing an overview (of a copy I got from eBay) and performing the upgrade on the Dell Vostro 270S machine. I don't get too deep into the OS, as all I wanted to do was to recr...

I'm thinking of upgrading my Dell vostro 270s, the thing is I don't know what to use since it's really old model.
i also have the same pc.. it was laying around in my house i thought to open it up and see.. it has a intel i3 3240 , 2gb of ram and 500gb of hdd. I am thinking to upgrade it and use it as a office pc..
@adbhutpandey3395 for office pc it's good, if you want it to be faster just upgrade to 4 or 8 ram,, I currently have 8gb, idk if I should go 16 GB ram,, the pc definitely need discrete gpu,, since the integrated GPU is so bad,, but still good if it's office use
@@akumayuu8726I purchased i5 3570 at a offline store for 800inr, got a dual channel 16gb ram ddr3 for 1000inr and got a sata ssd 256gb. Also I have a 1060 6gb laying around.. decided to pair it up with this pc and it can handle any game in 1080p in low to medium settings..
The fan that cools the display isn't working so the board that drives the LCD is overheating and causing issues.
I wonder if imaging these floppies with a tool like ddrescue would work. I always have had better luck backing up floppies that wouldn't read in Windows with that tool than WinImage.
Run Time Error 200 (Divide by Zeroin the CRT unit if I remember correctly) is usually caused by a bug in older versions of Turbo Pascal and Borland Pascal compilers (version 7 and earlier). That happens when using a program coompiled with those Pascal versions on a computer with CPU speed higher than 200MHz. I guess this is your case.
When will a Lenovo ideacentre tower 14irr9 recovery disk be released?
I don’t have that PC, therefore, don’t have that set of recovery media
@@thewindowstechchannel974 How long did it take you to buy this?
Where did the Packard Bell 7800 come from?
This was an eBay purchase
Windows Vista and SSD don't mix unless you figure out how to do your trim housekeeping. Windows 7 sp1 and above are more optimized for that technology. I would recommend using Western digital black instead. Sure it's slower over all but it won't slow down like a solid state will not doing proper trims!
Thanks, MAJOR KUDOS TO YOU!
Talking about the T530 discs? You're quite welcome if that's the case
@@thewindowstechchannel974 yep, helped me get my t530 back on the road!
@@thewindowstechchannel974 Yessir! Thanks again!
Keep it up brother 💯
Cool, thanks for trying it out! Although this is a highly outdated version. The most up to date iso is 13.09.2024
Awesome video friend. Yeah the good old classic windows 95 what a trip down memory lane it brings. Still remember year's ago walking into a circut city and seeing all the old school computer's on shelves. Came home with a compaq presario windows 98 pc. They didn't have any windows 95 ones but 98 and 95 look exactly the same which was cool. Dialup internet with America online 4.0 and windows plus themes. Good times.
Put Linux on it
"4 gigs of wam"
Nice Video. I like old computers more than the new ones
For Windows NT 4.0 and prior, the boot partition had to be equal to or lesser than 4GB. This is because it created the partition as FAT16 first using an unsigned integer and 64KB cluster size (DOS used a signed integer making 2GB and 32KB cluster size the maximum partition size), making this variation of FAT16 non-DOS compatible. Then if the user selected NTFS, it would convert the file system on first boot. You would see this as a message that looked similar to performing a CHKDSK operation before the GUI loads. Beyond that, all other partitions can be up to 16 exabytes in size in theory.
5th like
I have a couple hundred that have been sitting in the plastic box for years are you saying they might have value?
Um… no
@@thewindowstechchannel974 LOL it was rhetorical.
.DWG files are Adobe drawing files, .bip files are motion files from 3DS Max .xls files are Excel spreadsheet files balance sheet to be exact, .gex files are system interchange files + unknown chipset driver. The 2004 Tax Cut is probably accounting files disk, and the reason for the various versions of TaxCut is because the developer hadn't allowed for updating the database with new tax codes. It may have been intentional as a way to keep charging for their software. The WPQuiz is most likely a Wordperfect document for a handout quiz. Anyway you can google file extensions keeping in mind that most of the programs they are for no longer exist.
HA!!! I watched this video because I sold 300 floppys on eBay about 9 months ago. These are not the disks I sold.
How much did you pay, shipping cost?
$37.31 total (I offered $25, which they accepted, and it was $9.95 shipping, plus tax ($2.36 in this case), this set of 300 diskettes would normally cost $39.95 + $9.95 shipping)
now get all drivers and make it work 100% :D coincidentally, I just installed NT 4.0 last week... again after about 15 years, on period correct hardware (P200 MMX from 1998). I spent another 2 hours of driver installation, as NT 4.0 didn't have any drivers for sound, network, etc. I even managed to get USB working
It’s the BIOS being outdated.. to address more RAM you need to update it.
I can’t find an applicable BIOS update for my system, tho
@@thewindowstechchannel974 there’s probably a similar retail board that has an update.
Could you make the video better? So strange making this VM on XP when it could of been done on the hardware. All I got out of this was a human knows hows to set up things, next video you install an application I guess lol
Again, this was made cause I didn’t have anything better to do, I’m not proud of this video either
Maybe you want to clarify that the look and installer is based of win95 but NOT the os itself. Especially not kernel and network features.
give it 2 12/98gb bigfoot tx hdd's
If I could find one, that is. Not to mention that the motherboard only has enough IDE ports for a single HDD, floppy drive & optical drive
@@thewindowstechchannel974 Are you sure? In the BIOS Setup I see that there are two IDE channels that means 4 IDE devices. You know that on one IDE cable you can use two IDE devices, one Master and one Slave, right? Also, a CF card is actually an IDE device so it is possible with an adapter to hook it to your computer to be seen as an IDE HDD. And, depending of the flags set on the CF card, it can be seen as a fixed or removable drive.
what happened with windows fundamentals?
whats the name of sound card by the way
You should actually be able to push that to 256 MB just fine, maybe even 512 because that’s a Slot-1 system.
Unfortunately, it wouldn’t POST at 192MB of RAM, so unfortunately, 128MB is the max amount of RAM it can handle
@@thewindowstechchannel974 did you try looking for a BIOS update for said board?
@@thewindowstechchannel974 an outdated BIOS will do that to you
Ah, good point! I believe I mention the board type in the first video with this machine, IDK if it’ll exactly push the max RAM capacity, but even then, I’d still need more PC-RAM (different from the DDR RAM) to get it to 256MB or 512MB, maybe I can get Vista installed if that happens
I have this is, i change for win 10, first reinstall wim 8.1 clean, before i make win10 32bits, and att drivers.
I use win10 32bits lite, and office, this good for fast job, word, execel, poower point or pdf.
You could have just put the HDD in the bay above the Floppy drive
I am just now realizing this… I’ll take care of that soon
هيا نعود الي ويندوز أكس بي ايام زمان والله
I would like to take it home to see if I could still make it work, please?
Did you not watch the full video?
Would you be able to upload the support sent version of these discs? I am having an issue with the ones you uploaded on Internet Archive.
I’ll see if I can find them again. Also, you should be able to download the discs in a torrent file
Are you gonna test it out in the next video?
Did… did you not watch the full video?
I recently paid $25 for a Compaq CQ62. Works great but had only 4 gigs of RAM. I installed 8 total to max it out. Have no issues except it's a little slow. It came with Windows 7 Professional.
I actually had one of these
I have one at home but it’s completely disassembled
ahhhh yes I remember these systems, getting those hard drives in was tedious and annoying. I refurbished 2 back in mid 2014 or so. Both of them have been gutted & recycled, due to hardware failure back in 2022.
me watching system OEM Recovery helps me relax.
Have you Update it to Windows 8.1. it has a start button
I’m aware of that, but Windows 8.0 is a bit on the rare side, so if possible, I like keeping Windows 8.0 on those OEM machines
Buy a mac !
I’ve already got an eMac machine
Cringe
I just bought mine on ebay.. looking forward to it.. new old stock is a lucky find..
Nice!
I’ve some news! The hard drive isn’t at fault, however, I have to use Hirens Boot CD just to even boot to the HDD! So I’ll point this out in the actual video, but I think something is wrong with the partition scheme on the PC itself
35 dollars is very cheap for a used laptop on ebay. All the laptops i see that are like that are over 300 dollars.
There’s a Compaq desktop for $2.5K plus $1K shipping, it’s brand new in box from 2000 with Windows ME on it
vc é bom
Attempt these: Cmos reset, reseat cpu(if removable), try using a gpu(low power w/o pcie plugs on it), try different ram, last but not least, remove cmos battery and leave computer off for 30 mins the reinstall battery
Maybe I’ll try those, thing is, it can boot to the BIOS & the optical drive just fine, it’s the hard drive I can’t get it to boot from, could be SATA controller problems as well
