800k per month - with 8 working staff - How ? 40k days, 5k per man is off the hook -- Bro has 12 ish contractors plugged in on top of PAYE staff ? >> even that is 2k per man... Seems a bit high. 2k per man is an industry average for Electricans ? 5k per man per day ?!?!!?

This episode speaks to me, I started a carpet cleaning business just over 12 months ago and recently I've hurt my back. So I'm having a hard time even keeping a full week on the calendar and am slowly going backwards. 1 week I make nearly 1800-2300, then the next week is $150-$300 and I'm missing emails and missing calls and missing facebook comments and it's making me feel like I am terrible business. Then once you feel terrible you don't even want to answer the calls, you get sick of price shoppers and email chains that go nowhere etc. It's definitely a lot harder than many people think.

Last job before I retired I was sort of thrown into a new role with no training or support. I've been a back end (business logic) developer for 30 years and I had been hired to solve some longstanding issues with the company's data handling. Well, priorities shift and all of a sudden they want me to be writing web services and web apps. I could learn to do it of course - I've learned to do new things my whole career. But they could hire someone that is already good at that for much less than what I was getting paid, and if I wanted to do that type of work I'd already be doing it. So I retired. I'd rather have gone out on a high note but so be it.

I don’t think employees are the problem now, I think its bad employers the problem, it’s you buddy, not employees. A great employee will work hard, and if he feels he can get far in that company he will do beyond what it’s required. The problem is when that employer sees that employee working hard he decides to make his life miserable. And you know thats the truth, and more and more people are deciding to leave because why should you leave your life and your time to someone who doesn’t care about it. And most of you feel every employee is replaceable, even the great ones. So I ask you, if you’re that employer why should anybody work for you?

I have a carpet cleaning business and so much of your advice applies to me too. I have been in operation about 18 months and haven't entered a single expense into my accounting software yet :) Fun times ahead.
