I love how the alien stalked and then just sat like don’t worry, he will come to me
❤
Mary Cherry's Alien reaction is one of my faves. Watched it several times.
In the novel, the alien comes up from underneath him, grabing his leg while he was resting on catwalk area.
😅😂😂😂
Just caught this in theaters for it's 45th anniversary a few days ago. Although my screening had a few pepole there were definitely a few jumps in the small crowd, still such an effective junpscare many years later.
I saw it in a full theater and this sequence works really well.
I just rewatched it, it truly is a sci-fi horror masterpiece. Ridley Scott hit this out of the park... The fact that it was so original, so unique, so terrifying.... introducing the Xenomorph to the world! I also loved the curious, ,yet mysterious music.... I liked the main computer MOTHER, where only authorized members could access. The haunting revelation when Ripley finds out that the crew was expendable from the get go..... The way Ash described it as a PERFECT ORGANISM....
I have watched this film literally 1000 times, (no kidding), even been graded on it in high school, and it STILL scares the crap out of me. I dare anyone who has seen the film over and over, turn off all the lights and watch it in the dark. You will still jump.
I’m way past the point of jumping. If you pay close attention, you can see just a tiny glimpse of reflection off the alien just as Dallas reaches the bottom of the ladder.
Every one watching on a laptop, and all but one in a brightly lit room. That's not how you watch Alien, people!
1:00 I like that the viewer astutely states that Dallas better hope that fire will work. As much as I love Aliens, the original movie gave the creature an aura of mystique and a sense of invincibility, especially with Ash stating that its structural perfection is only matched by its hostility. Aliens cheapened the creature, even if the movie itself is awesome.
God could you imagine what it was like in 1979 seeing this for the first time!!! I mean, youre talking about a generation of moviegoers who grew up when television was invented and used to watch old reruns of black and white horror movies of Frankenstein, Dracula and the Wolfman. And 20-years later after the success of Star Wars, they're going to see this space adventure movie they had no idea what it was about!!! And this scene comes up, about an hour into the movie and everyone is just tensed up. Nobody had seen anything like this before!!! I mean, nobody even thought of something like this in 79 and then THE SURPRISE ATTACK ON DALLAS!!!!...There were reports of people running out of the theater and throwing up and screaming!!! ALIEN WAS A MASSIVE HIT and today is considered still ONE of the most scariest movies ever made!!!! Hell yea 🥚
That's exactly it. I could only imagine how the people with significantly different mindsets and ways of life back then reacted by quite literally experiencing this movie on a big screen in a dark theatre the first time. Compared to this, I have to say that those people's reactions are quite underwhelming, even the ones who had the biggest reactions and/or even if all of their reactions were genuine. But it's still great to see the people of today react to this.
No blood, no Dallas.
Bacammm
You know a masterpiece like Alien is timeless when it still scares the living shit out of people nearly 50 years later
I like how so many reactors commented on how creepy these Aperture-style Hatches are, especially the sound they make.
Duaffy with blue hair and blue eyes is so pretty...
I think Dallas's death is the perfect example of a jumpscare. First, it works because it is not overused, being the second of the only three jumpscares this movie has (Together with the facehugger scene, and the Alien in the escape pod one). Second, it works because the tension slowly increases due to the blipping used in the device to track the creature, pus the incorrect reading of it's location. Third, because they had a plan, and as soon as the plan started, it went downhill fast, leading to apprehension and fear of the outcome for Dallas.
Right, all that tension and build-up, but then the shot itself is one of my favorites ever put on film. The use of the lighting between his flashlight and flame, and how in that moment he's still quickly looking around just to check his surroundings - when BAM. Even knowing the danger he's in you still don't see it coming. Masterful.
I remember I watched this movie for the first time when I was 14 and my younger brother had gotten a Christmas tree ornament of the Xenomorph from Hallmark and I had never seen the movie so my older brother decided to put it on for us despite I didn't want to watch it at first but as it kept going I was intrigued. I STILL remember how terrified I was by that Dallas jumpscare scene.
This is interesting because it shows you how many people would die in the exact same way if put in this situation. They give Dallas shit for not fleeing, which is exactly what got him caught, if he held position for a few seconds longer he would've realized it was below him.
Most people would panic anyway, it is quite reasonable. They had no idea the creature could be this fast until this point in the movie, the motion tracker was giving incorrect readings, and he had seen alien goop in the upper levels, so he incorrectly assumed the monster was above him.
I remember I was scared like hell when I was little
Great video!! 1:52, 3:11, 7:25 & 8:22 are the best one!!
The first time you watch it, it's the jumpscare. The more you watch it, it's the expression of Ash!
What's really scary is that in the book, while Ripley was trying to get to the escape ship, she found Dallas cocooned, and he said that he could feel it moving inside him and asked her to kill him. They filmed such a scene for "aliens", where Ripley finds Burke.
They actually filmed the scene with Dallas for this movie, but cut it because it slowed down the pacing so much. You can find it on RUclips.
CHEESE AND RICE
Let's take a moment and appreciate the sound design of this film (always appreciate it when I watch these reactions)!
Why do I always confuse TEAMAMBA with TRIXY BLUE ?
I don't blame you. They look like sisters.
Fantastic reactions to a iconic horror scifi classic
Hermosa
I mean this is a great Jumpscare, but it didn’t even scare me when I first saw this
God could you imagine seeing this jumpscare for the first time in 1979!!! Children of the 50s and 60s were used to the black and white horror movies of "Frankenstein" and "Dracula" growing up, but when "Alien" opened that summer it CHANGED THE GAME!!! Being in a packed theater, it's dark and youre stuck in the vents with Dallas and he SCARED OUT OF HIS MIND!!! And then BAM!!! THE ALIEN POPS UP OUT OF NOWHERE!!!! You dont even see it coming. People in the 70s must have been having heart attacks during this scene. It was said people were literally running out of theaters to the lobby they were so TERRIFIED!!!...I first saw Alien as a kid on vhs in the 90s and this scene always gets me in the dark. Ive seen it a million times and it keeps getting me. I think it's because Ive gotten used to it so much that you feel Dallas heart pumping and you sympathize with him. No blood. No body. GONE!!!
I saw the movie at the theater in 1979, when I was 9 years old. I remember it well. That scene above and also the earlier scene where the small alien bursts out of Kane's torso are key of course.
this is just my experience on alien isolation lmao
I believe that was the idea
You should have seen the audience reaction in 79. There was screaming, jumping, popcorn flying through the air. My best friend's sister ended up in my lap cause of this
Always try to take a date to a horror film. It works!
Hermosa canción , aplicable a futuro
Excelente actriz.
