American transcendentalist philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote "Self-Reliance" in 1841. One of his recurring themes is best expressed in this passage: everyone should follow their own principles and intuition rather than emulating others or being consistent. It is the origin of one of his most well-known quotes: "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesm...

    Depends on so many factors. This advice is generally good for most people. As most people don’t have new car money.

  • @messiah5809
    @messiah5809 Месяц назад

    This would be good advice, except last I checked, used cars are about the same price now, and you don't even get the same warranty and other packages.

    • @SaltSpirits
      @SaltSpirits Месяц назад

      These aren’t the reasons the advice isn’t necessarily good for everyone, first of all you can get plenty of used cars in fantastic condition for under 5k still. You can’t get anything new for under 20k. The reason it’s questionable is because interest rates on loans for used cars have reached a similar rate to new vehicles. If you need to finance your vehicle, there’s not a whole lot of reason to go used. If you’re buying outright with cash, there’s not a whole lot of reason to go new. Not to mention how much more reliable most older vehicles are. Go get a Jetta or a Corolla or a Civic. Plenty of examples under 5k and all 3 will be borderline bulletproof platforms that will even accept light modification.

    • @messiah5809
      @messiah5809 Месяц назад

      While finding a pre-owned vehicle for $5,000 is still possible, it may not necessarily be a Corolla. During a visit to the dealership, I initially considered purchasing a used one at that price point. But instead, they insisted that it was worth 20k with over 80k miles on it. And dont get me started on the Interest rates; some kids will actually fall for deals like that. Also, I stand by the notion that complimentary oil changes, repair services, and a warranty are great if you are willing to spend a little more. Edit: I'm not saying it's impossible, but finding good deals nowadays is difficult. Also, your point on financing is 100% accurate
