The Greatest Filthy Guitar Tone of All Time
Просмотров 1,6 тыс.19 часов назад
The Chris Whitley album "Din of Ecstasy" is a masterpiece. It just happens to contain what is, in my opinion, the greatest filthy guitar tone of all time. An honorable mention for what I consider the 2nd greatest filthy guitar tone of all time is Jimmy Page's chorus riff on No Quarter from the Led Zeppelin album Houses of the Holy. While that is not discussed in this video, it's a good referenc...

Are Relic Guitars poser instruments for "bluez lawyers?" This thread on TheGearPage says as much, and the resulting discussion is both telling and entertaining. Paul @TheStudioRats is an awesome player that seems to prefer relic guitars. So they’re obviously appreciated by all different types of players and skill levels. Let’s hear why you like ‘em or don’t like ‘em! #guitar #fender #gibson

Made a Song Guitar Jam Tube Driver and Synergy Bogner Ecstasy

More structure in this song. In the jam improvisation part I tried to stick to more diatonic phrasing. I made the backing track to be a jazz fusion flavored tune, but it has some rock and acid jazz elements. Used the Synergy Bogner Ecstasy blue channel for the mildly overdriven tones, lead tone is the BK Butler Tube Driver into the Ecstasy red channel. Obvious use of reverb and delay effects in...

    When he does the southern accent 😂”ya just wind it up til you caint see it no mo, and ya throw it in the bucket.” I actually have played a vintage LP, and it played great. It was my uncle’s and when he died, who knows what happened to that guitar? However, the best LP I ever played was an 80s model custom black beauty that belonged to a friend of mine. It even had the 490 pups in it, and they were phenomenal sounding. I also owned a 61 Gibson ES339 for a while and it needed a ton of work to make it playable again, so I sold it, as is, for $6k. I play solid body guitars and the 339 is a totally hollow body. It’s a fine guitar, if that’s your thing? It will feedback nonstop and has zero sustain, but worth $6k in unplayable condition if you want it bad enough.

      LOL. He had me dying a couple videos back when he got out the big Godzilla vs the tiny action figure. Comedy gold. That’s awesome that you’ve had your hands on such a variety of instruments of different eras. It really comes down to the individual guitar itself huh. Like the 80’s black beauty you mentioned, just the right sum of everything made it special. (Was that a 3 pick up model?) Sounds like you did good getting 6k for a guitar you didn’t have use for. Probably bought something else awesome with the $$ haha. I feel ya on the hollow feedback thing. Heck my semi hollows are hard to control with a loud tube amp in my little guitar room. Good stuff! 💪💪💪

    • @robbyclark6915
      @robbyclark6915 2 дня назад

      @ the 80s custom was not a three pup model, so technically it wasn’t a “black beauty” I think? It was probably the best guitar I ever played though. I did buy a used 2014 fender tele with custom shop pups that sounds amazing. I already have soooo many guitars that it’s hard to buy more. Maybe an SG? I have never owned one of those before and they are iconic. Maybe another amp? Idk? Maybe nothing?

      True. I’ve met some guys with prestigious professions who are ridiculously good players (much better than me). I think the blues lawyer joke is overstated a bit. IMO if someone has the drive and mindset to be in a prestigious profession, they are likely to apply the same to playing music if that’s their hobby of choice. If RUclips is any indicator, it certainly seems like there are a ton of good players out there from all walks of life. Thanks for watching!

    Sorry to hear about your accident (assuming this was not divine intervention on whammy bar over-use). You can compose more now Look at this breath controller video on youtube "MIDI Guitar 2 and the TEControl BBC2 Breath controller - explaining that mouth thing" MIDI Guitar 2 is only $150. You dont need special hardware like the old midi guitars However I see TEControl Breath and Bite controller BBC2 is $356 I'm not sure if other cheaper breath controllers are compatible or a used one Anyway in the video you see he plucks notes with a pick, then shapes them with this mouth controller but maybe that can be programmed to replace the plucking with a mouth sound like a "ta ta" type with that percussive-like articulation of the "t" and you just vary the pitch, or sing "do" "do" "do" with pitch variation whatever You could email the company and see if this is possible How many guitars do you have? probably to many, just sell a couple if necessary Also, the the fleshy bulging part of the hand below the thumb on the inside of the hand. You could have a pick permanently mounted in that area with something like epoxy resin (if that could be done without affecting healing) I think it's possible. The pick could be first have two small metal L brackets for support then have the epoxy putty molded around it. Maybe even some screws could be involved if screwed into a thick cast. You could try a prototype using ducttape They say all downstrokes are better than no strokes

      Thank ya bro, I think the good lord did finally have enough of my whammy 😂 That midi breathing device is super cool, would definitely help get more horn like playing going on. I’ll see how the one hand legato stuff works, and how immobile I am after surgery. I’m hoping my post surgery cast is more favorable than the monstrosity I have on now.

    I've been playing guitar for more years than I care to admit. My main guitar is an LP special I bought new in the 90s. I played thousands of hours on that. It's got a few chips and the paint on the neck is really thin and orange peeling a bit. I see these relic guitars and they look like someone dragged them behind a car. They don't even look played. They just look fake. I guess some people like to wear fake gold, fake eye lashes, wear a wig, buy jeans with holes already in them. Not my kind of people, but to each their own. To me it's like buying a car with the windshield already chipped and the doors already key-scratched and the tires patched - right off the factory floor.

    • @GuitarVacation
      @GuitarVacation 10 дней назад

      Awesome! Your LP special sounds like a good one. Single cut P-90s? I definitely have seen a bunch that didn’t look anywhere near natural. Then you got the high dollar Gibson Murphy Labs customs that people are still reporting instances of the finish coming off in chunks! When you think of it in terms of your analogy, it does make ya scratch your head haha. Thanks for watching.

    Since this was one of the last jams I posted in 2024, I’m kind of letting it serve as a benchmark for my change of direction in 2025. I spent a lot of time working on outside harmony in 2024. I did learn a lot and added some tools. Reviewing my playing over the year, particularly when I was really trying to dig in with the outside stuff, I find that it is not pleasant to listen too. Some was bad because of my ongoing timing development, but even when I’m executing what I want fairly well, the end result is still unpleasant music. This particular tune is a good example, simple blues changes with a tritone substitution and a chromatic walk down on the turn around. Adding the outside approach to the melody, and soloing just doesn’t come together for anything resembling ‘good.’😂 Of course most of what I do on these improvs is experimenting, typically with concepts I’m trying to develop. With all that said, this tune is a good marker and reminder to myself, of where the hyper focus on outside harmony ended up: Bad Results. In 2025, I’m shifting back towards more diatonic playing, with a focus of timing, intervals and phrasing to create compelling and hopefully BETTER stuff to listen to. Thank you to anyone who gives feedback on my playing, including folks that call me out when it’s bad. I’m all about accurate self assessment, and listening to critique is a great guide and motivator to continue improving as a musician. That’s really want my tiny corner of RUclips to be about: Having fun playing guitar and having a community that helps each other get better 💪💪

If you recorded 30 minutes of that even if you don't make it a public video, It would be worth doing, Don't view it as making music, look at is at as an experiment in making weird sounds and opening your mind You are not playing outside enough and as soon as you find yourself playing a rhythm change it, to achieve full on anti-music Listen to this album for inspiration: Pat Metheny - Zero Tolerance For Silence (the version on youtube, on the channel: yesilikeworldmusic) And this Lou Reed Metal - Machine Music (full album) try playing along with either of these albums while recording your guitar in a direct line. With playing it back do another track on top and third. This is sure to result in something interesting Then just return to your regular fusion stuff This is my request Metheny did it and Lou Reed did it you can do it the only rule is there are no rules

    Is this a joke?

      I have some vids that are jokes, unfortunately this wasn’t one of them haha. Interested in your thoughts on what is bad and what improvements you suggest.

    Make it Stop!

      This is one of the videos that has really made me reevaluate my playing. I spent a lot of 2024 trying to dive into outside playing. When it comes down to it, vids like this one where I’m trying to do outside harmony are just not pleasant to listen to. So I’m in agreement with your desire to make it stop haha. I’m shifting to more a more melodic/diatonic approach, and hopefully the ‘out there’ stuff will come out more appropriately on down the line when I’ve improved as a musician. Thanks for watching though, I’m never opposed to criticism, sometimes I suck at guitar haha.

    Here’s some info and questions. 1. The product Deoxit was first developed and marketed in 1984, four years after the breakup of Led Zeppelin. 2. Jimmy Page owned Boleskine House from 1970 - 1992 but never lived there and in fact rarely spent any time there. 3. Summoning a Demon to make your guitars sound better is one of the most hilarious and ridiculous things I’ve ever heard. Did Mephistopheles anoint his Telecaster, Danelectro and other guitars as well or just the Les Pauls? 4. The idea that there is a kind of secret occult society of ‘59 burst owners who ritualistically spray something from Jimmy’s evil can into their potentiometers and are thus in the coven is highly entertaining as well as totally absurd. The only “club” most owners (or Blues Lawyers as they’re affectionately known), of actual bursts belong to is the Money to Burn Club which is kinda evil it’s own way. 5. Voyxu is mostly right, there’s simply no such thing as “Magic”. Not in pots or pickups, not in any guitars or anywhere else. Gibson has built and sold unimaginable numbers of amazing LP’s that sound and play just as they should and always have and no guitar is worth $650,000 or more. Your video is very entertaining and if you did it do get replies then I have been successfully trolled, if you’re a comedian then kudos to you, you have made me laugh.

      You’re well thought out facts and logic are kryptonite to my occult conspiracy 🤔 I’m not a comedian, but I do try to be funny from time to time. I was so entertained by Voyxu’s vids that I figured I’d join in the fun. Thanks for watching, and having a sense of humor! 😂

    I just shipped my Mark I chassis to Mesa. From ME to CA cost me $100 in shipping. I've sent about 4-5 amps to Mesa and the overhaul and service bills have never exceeded a few hundred dollars. They're the only ones that I'd trust to work on these.

      Man, that is very encouraging to hear. If it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, I definitely lean more heavily to shipping it to Mesa. Appreciate the info, and thanks for watching!
