Day in the Life of an Irrigation Tech
really helpful video - not only the Repair part, but also the advice about sun causing damage to exposed lines and the air release valve trick at the end, Thank you!
Excellent video and very helpful for my dripline repair.
You have to be a gorilla connecting some of them, i didnt get all the way on but enough
So one sprinkler fix was a day in the life of a tech 😂
That’s the job and then you got other appointments
simple. But very helpful.
Awesome thank you
You forgot to prime it at 5:38.
Great information! Thanks
Nice. I usually come across poly which is easier
It’s not schedule 20 it’s Class 200 commonly referred to as eggshell Class PVC and Schedule PVC have the same outside diameter. The difference between Class pipe and Schedule pipe is: schedule pipe, the wall thickness is the same regardless of the size of pipe. Class pipe the wall thickness changes depending on the pipe size and is only as thick as it needs to be to maintain a certain burst psi. In other words in small pipe sizes on Class 200 pipe, it only has to be very thinly walled/ so in most cases schedule 40 is way better because it’s way thicker. However, 2” pipe is a point of inflection for schedule 40 vs say Class 315 pipe, 2” 315 is actually thicker walled than schedule 40 when you get to 2” pipe. So a lot of water districts especially with reclaimed water will require anything 2” and over on the main lines be Class 315 and schedule 40 will not be allowed. And on the 2”+ 315 they will be required to have Schedule 80 fittings.
Have you ever left your remote device at a site? I am not an irigation tech but you do good work.
So happy I found this. Packed with good info and easy to watch too.
My connections don’t go in nearly that easily. I have to heat up the hose or use a hammer
you need a small syphon pump to get that water out before you dig.
Finding the valves esp in Florida biggest pain in the @#$ even with wire tracer
Use the cut out piece to duplicate the length of the new piece. Using a Bernz a matic torch and gently heat the hose end and it will easily slip over the fitting and then shrink tight.
What about when theres a t valve involved? Main water lline aolid pipe to t valve to drip line. How to remove the t valve rwmove old damaged drip ans reartach to t valve?
When connecting wires how would you avoid getting shocked I know it’s not a lot but still
I thought this was a colonoscopy at first
Pull up a toilet and send the machine down there next time?
this pipe was actively holding waste. to pull the toilet would mean to make a mess in the restroom. Also, pulling the toilet and only servicing the blockage with a cable snake wouldn't solve the core issue of root intrusion. By us cutting out the bell completely, we ensure that the roots wont come back from this point of entry. and now, we have a bull horn clean out to much more easily service the sewer pipe if it should ever have issues again.
Thanks guys
What you could've done with that wiper seal was turn the water off first. Tighten it. Turn it back on. Usually works. After that it's usually broken.
RIP
outstanding! thanks!
*Promo sm* 🍀
What’s the name of that coupling with the gasket oring. ? Size or name please. ? Thank you in advance
What kind of camera are you using? Looking at the mini pro currently
Welcome back, good video keep it up!
Looks like schedule 80
Schedule 80 is even thicker! And usually grey. This is schedule 20 and schedule 40, thanks for watching!
schedule 20 piping is the worst
Never heard of a union?
Check out our rainbird sprinkler valve replacement video, I utilize two unions on that repair. Thanks for watching!
Bruh. Better than what i would of done. I would of just pulled it all out
Please post more vids like this! Love this content ❤
You didnt have to destroy it, you could have taken it apart before overtightening it. Then you could have repaired the leak much more efficiently and not overcharged the customer.
By wrenching on it softly, the lower elbow completely broke off. This is a weak point in the system because it should not have broken that easily. Also this customer is on a fixed contract. So they pay a monthly rate and we come here every week and inspect and repair everything we see. So customers not getting overcharged for anything 👍 thanks for watching tho
You don’t have to take off the orange cap to flush the system
Best thing to do when you install a new valve !!
Your cracked the head with you channel locks, just use ur hand. And also hand pump out th3 water before you dig.

@ 2:28 ? Can't you just use 2:01 to determine how much you need?
More videos bro!
Then he sat in the truck recovering for the rest of the day…
How could you tell lol
Pretty sure he’s a supervisor on my crew (Hwy Dept)😆@@dripfix24
A chipping hammer is what welders use to clean flux and slag. This is called a hammer drill. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.
Clay shovel, rarely ever used to move clau
Hence the word apprentice You have to teach him WTF
That's why he didn't fire him for almost jacking up his job site insurance. Someone shoulda told him before he put his wrists on the firing line though
Nice.
Damn bro I remember doing this I use to work all over OC what I loved about doing irrigation repairs is trouble shooting the wires. That was always fun with the toner and wire tracer. I also enjoyed getting a company vehicle to go home, so I’d go straight to the job and then straight home. We would clock in through the company phone. I had a good time. I first started mowing then I went with an irrigation guy that didn’t have a license and I was just digging for him until I was able to go by myself. I did it from 2011-2018 cool job I enjoyed it. I’m a trucker now I got my cdl, but I wouldn’t mind going back. If you are from Southern California orange coast college in Costa Mesa has the best horticulture program. I learned the names of plants, trees, insect, diseases, soil, landscape architecture, blue print reading, irrigation design with flow, 2 way irrigation, etc it was cool. P.S. go get your back flow repair license you’ll make extra cash. I always enjoyed replacing the back flows. I’ll flip them for cash at the scrap yard.
Saved me time and money thank you
Just curious why didn’t you use 1” nipples instead of building male adapters with pvc in them? Wouldn’t it be one less step By just gluing Union to nipple and creating a male adapter with about 1” cut off nipple? Just curious. Thanks
NEVER put pipe dope on an irrigation valve.
If applied correctly, you will have zero issues. “The dope ruins the diaphragm” has literally never happened to me out of doing this to literally hundreds of valves.
Turn zone of and tighten head done it plenty of times
Should I be an irrigation technician at a golf course?
