This guy really knows his stuff and what I love is this presentation has huge amount of practical examples. Yes it's important to understand principles and theory and evidence but application of this stuff is crucial. Richard has clearly spent a huge amount of his time applying these principles and it shows in the quality of the information. My notes... - Must know why you’re doing a specific activity. If you don’t know why, then don’t bother. - Tall vs Small in basketball. Forcing players to do things differently. - Adding pressure. o Must complete 3 trials before you get to go home. o 3 failures and training is finished. o For the next few minutes you can score more points. Consequences are higher. - Environment. o Variability in tools so we don’t get too comfortable with one thing. o Wearing a glove with some kind of obstruction in the palm you must adapt to in order to catch the ball. Finger dexterity is encouraged as a result. o Soft catching improved by throwing eggs. - Use goggles to obscure vision in certain ways to encourage the eye to look at different things. - A session should have a need in order to see success. Need to be able to smash in tennis. Need to be able to chip in golf. - Have people involved simply to disrupt the session, similar to how Tiger’s dad would make noise and try to distract. - Disrupt balance to force the body to adapt. Maintain the outcome but change how you get there. o Different stances that are unbalanced. o Stand on squishy balls that induce imbalance. o Stand on one leg. - Make the visit work no matter if the grip, balance, stance etc. is not perfect. Use these as opportunity to adapt. o If you’re a diver, you don’t have infinite chances to get the perfect dive. You must be able to adapt in the event things don’t feel right. - Heighten awareness through variability. The less predictable the sequence of events, the more focus and better learning will happen. - Time constraints give you less time to think and disrupt the motor pattern. Encourages the more natural movements. - Bleep test with 6 shots in the middle: training for fatigue. 6 shots and a mentally taxing math problem: dual tasking. - Amplifying the problem gives people more information about what’s going wrong so they can more easily make changes. - Earn the right to coach feedback by self coaching. - Drivers with all the feedback machines removed from the vehicle are forced to feel things themselves. This creates better drivers. - Adjusting tools… o Super light balls. o Half balls o Smooth surfaces o Different object altogether o Camo so you can’t see it - Constraints don’t constrain you - they afford you opportunity.

Thanks for the upload, it is a shame about the poor quality of the recording, without being able to understand what he says, apart from the images which just look like basic breaststroke explanation. does anyone have a better quality recording of this session ?

I think this is not targetted at the general public and layman, perhaps for clinicians, but for the layman it will be very difficult to determine what requires more or less based on the situation and need. I feel it is still easier to stick to a few simple principles, and put all the caveats within than try to add more and more letters and principles. Most people don't even remember what RICE stands for, let alone PRICE and POLICE and then now PEACE and LOVE. OMG>< feels like exams... better mug!
