As an immigrant, one would experience various levels of discrimination when moving to a new country. Therefore, I took this chance to not only speak of the reality of it to clear up all the exaggeration that has been placed our there by the news outlets, specially from 2020. Would you considered listening to some videos by Steve Kaufman's channel, Lingo Steve, I think or maybe lingosteve. I am learning and I'm completely changing the way I teach English ESL! I'm throwing out the old rules and textbooks, and I'm trying to implement Comprehensible Input and TPRS and storytelling. This is very interesting to me. A lot of this I did not know. Maybe more of your videos can help me. I searched for "how to teach ESL to recent immigrant starting high school". I was born in the USA, my first language is English, but my 2nd language is Spanish and I speak Spanish 90% of every day because of my husband, his family, my neighborhood, our life. I teach private ESL lessons, usually with adults. I just found out I'll be starting giving ESL lessons to a 15 year old boy who just immigrated from Colombia (country) and he was thrown into high school and understands zero English. I try to customize my lessons for each individual, no cookie cutter methods, and I don't use textbooks. I write the material myself. I focus on language acquisition through comprehensible input and focus less on grammar rules, memorizing, and drilling vocabulary. But I really want to be able to help this young man -- he's in high school classes and not understanding! Wow. Also, I did NOT attend high school. I was homeschooled K-12 back in the 80s and 90s. So I'm watching your videos to get new ideas. Thank you!
