You must have paid approximately 4k for the case and to accept it from fedex they will charge you almost 2k for custom duty. They name it as ROD duty. Moreover they will add certain other charges like custom duty , duty igst , duty advancement charge , warehouse charge and what not. It will be around 2k. There is no way to avoid because they will neither ship it back to the place from where it was sent nor you are in a position to avoid it as you already paid 4k.

I had a different scenario than yours. I was sent a gift and I denied accepting it. In your scenario, you made a purchase and they are now shipping it with additional costs.

I hope you should have watched this video prior making an order.

Thanks for the quick reply : 16$ was shipping and I was not aware that there would be any other charges - INR 5k including shipping paid. Now they have cleared customs and sent an email / whatsapp message that customs clearance was done from their side and 4976Rs to be paid to them. That's almost the cost of case - now it doesn't feel worth buying it. Any workaround for this? Do I have to pay the amount prior to the delivery or when they are at my door? If I reject it, can It be sent back for a full refund? Thanks in advance and yes, I wish I saw your video before so I was aware - I honestly expected better from our government as well, a simple cover not available in India requires doubles the cost :(

Dont accept. Say no to bribe / indirect farzi tax. The problem is people dont know the fundamental rights. I never ordered it that is why I was able to return it. If someone purchases on your behalf and sends it as a gift in his/her name then , it is a gift and not that I have ordered. If i would purchase something from abroad and then it can be a possibility that i need to pay any surcharge.

Agar govt post usps se bheja hai to apne aap india post se delivery ho jaegi dont worry. Agar private post hai toh reach out fedex office.

Dekho yeh sab hai toh galat jo apke friend ne kiya hai! Agar aapke friend ne uss envelop ko jo product bheja hai ussmain chipa kar rakha hai toh customs waale normally product dekh kar uska custom duty evaluate kar k apni list k hisab se agar uss main aata hua toh apko deliver karne pr custom duty lekar deliver kar denge. Customs waale har parcel ko khol kar check karte hain. Meri ek friend ne bina consultation apni jewellery bhej di thi ek do mahina pehle jo customs office ne rakh li thi.Lekin unhon ne declare kiya hua tha amount. Usko , unke brother ko customs office jakar laani padi hogi. Baaki parcel main jo envelop aapke friend ne bheja hai agar toh chipa kar bheja hai toh chances hain ki aapka amount safe mil jaega aapko. Baaki agar money bhejni hi thi toh moneygram , western union se bhej dete. Secondly agar declare nahi kiya hai amount aur envelop alag se bina chupae bheja hai then maybe woh apka package hold pr rakh len!!

So chances are 50-50. Nikalte toh nahi hain aese kuch bhi kisi bhi package se. Means chori nahi karte woh kuch bhi lekin hold pr daal sakte hain. Agar toh miss hogya unn se woh envelope jissmain money hain then maybe you just need to pay customs for the product as per custom duty while getting it delivered at your door.

2023 main government of india k custom main kuch changes hue hain. Ussmain 70% charges unn toys pr rahega jissmain battery hai. Agar toy without battery hai toh ho sakta hai custom duty na ho uss pr lekin private courier kaafi amount charge karte hain. Ab toh govt post office bhi karne laga hai. 2020 main 20% tha!! Baaki 100 dollars tak wahi 2k-3k tak charges aate hain. Kismat ho toh shayad nahi b lete baaki keh nahi sakte!!
