How to Replace an RV Exhaust Vent Fan Motor (PlusRoc 250 CFM Upgrade)
In this video, I show you how to replace the motor on an RV's exhaust vent. And in my case, I chose to go with a larger, higher-CFM motor both because it was cheaper, and because it would be more effective in clearing cooking odors and smoke out of my RV's kitchen. And since it is larger, I go through the adaptation process.

How to Turn Your RV's Air Conditioner into an Air Purifier! If there's one thing I wish my RV had, is a highly effective built-in air purifier. I been in the same place for 8 yrs. I always leave my black water tank open. During open for business minutes, I fill my poop tank full. I flush it, and run 20 seconds of water thru and never hodl anything in my tank. Since we've been hitting low single digits, I've frozen up. It happens every year. I was thinking of getting a block heater and hooking a battery charger to it. Most are around 120 degree max temp. Seams perfect if I can find one in salvage.

    All 3 valves of mine were frozen today. I put some Balistrol at the start. As they opened, I gave a few more dots of Balistrol on the valves opened and closed like new! When I noticed the valves were frozen, I added 1/2 gallon RV Antifreeze to all 3 tanks, waited, voila! The black tank worked fantastic, so did each gray tank.

    Your video is awesome! I have a allegro bus and I'm having the same problem with boiling hot water and it dumping out of the pressure relief valve when I leave the water heater on. I changed the thermostats but it's still heating up to boiling and dumping when left on. Any suggestions?

    • @BOOTENWAGEN
      @BOOTENWAGEN 27 дней назад

      I'll think out loud here. As far as I know, the circuit board sends a signal through the thermostats, and as long as it gets the signal back, it'll keep heating the water. If the thermostats are operating normally, they should interrupt that signal when they reach their heat setpoint (140F for the thermostat, 180F for the ECO). You are saying it keeps boiling the water, which could mean either: neither of the thermostats are functioning correctly, or the circuit board is faulty. Now unfortunately, diagnosis here is risky because the dump valve could scald me by surprise. My own curious self would want to use a multimeter to test the continuity of my 140F while the water temperature exceeds that. With the leads unplugged, I'd probe the thermostat, and technically, it should be open - no signal can pass. If that's the case, the thermostat works and would tell me that the circuit board is faulty, and I'd replace the board. However, since I wouldn't want to put myself in harm's way unless I could figure out a safe way to do this without any surprise water dumps, I'd probably just turn everything off, let it cool, and replace the circuit board. Because it seems to me like it's unlikely for BOTH thermostats to be malfunctioning, unless they're somehow not installed correctly and not touching the wall of the water heater. If you spring for a circuit board replacement, I recommend OEM, because a knock-off I tried to use didn't work. Here's the same Dometic board that I used for a different issue: amzn.to/40fMJYo

    That filter isn't going to remove the chemicals that you're worried about. It's not even going to remove odors. It'll only remove fine particulate like dust, skin, and bacteria. You've created a placebo. And filters don't work well if you're pushing air through them like you're doing. It's supposed to be in a pull configuration. Doing 2 mins of research could have saved you a bunch of time, money, and effort.

    • @BOOTENWAGEN
      @BOOTENWAGEN Месяц назад

      Cool, ignore everything I just said in the video. It *did* removed odors, and any associated congestion symptoms -- that's my experience, not just something I made up. I don't really know what you're even basing the air push theory on -- both configurations are valid so long as there's a tight seal. The tragedy of this is you could've initiated an interesting conversation about which configuration is best, but instead chose to just patronize me, and that's lame. Here's an article by someone who seems to have tested both configurations extensively: smartairfilters.com/en/blog/air-purifier-filter-on-the-front-or-back/

    • @K-Fed
      @K-Fed Месяц назад

      @@BOOTENWAGEN You chose a website that agreed with you. And it's one where the tester didn't know what they were doing and didn't understand their own conclusion. It was not an unbiased or a scientific test, so it holds little value. I'm also not going to battle your feelings or perceptions of experiencing less odors or symptoms. Those are irrational. Science says that filters don't work as effectively in a push configuration. And unless you're using UV/Silver/Carbon/etc. element then you're not removing VOCs, so you're not removing or destroying odors. Most likely you've masked those odors with solvents and out gassing from the tape/glue/plastics and other materials you utilized. So, again, congratulations on your placebo.

    • @K-Fed
      @K-Fed Месяц назад

      @@BOOTENWAGEN Why do you believe that just about EVERY fan produced by a reputable manufacturer in the last 30+ years puts the filters in a pull configuration? Doesn't matter if it's for home, automotive, or commercial applications. Are they just being cheap? Maybe they're not as smart as you? lol. Or, maybe they're realized through testing and good science that this is the best configuration for both performance and filter efficacy. The only time I've heard about filters after the fan being a benefit is for high ISO clean rooms where any contamination spells catastrophe.

    Thanks for the video! I think the thermostat may be my issue on my hot water heater. The electric side is not working on the heater, but propane works. I checked the draw on current -- when I switch on the electric side for the hot water heater, it draws 11.5-12 amps, but shuts down before the water heats up. So I think the element is ok, but possibly the thermostat is not working. Your thoughts? I'll probably order a replacement and see if it works. Thanks again. Don from Florida

      I see, that's peculiar. Because if the propane shuts off at 145 F, that would indicate to me that the thermostat is still functioning - but still worth a try to replace if maybe the thermostat is in some kind of "in between" state. How soon does the electric heater shut off? We lived in our new trailer for 3 months. We dry the inside of the curtain after each use. Alas, that does NOT keep the mildew from growing as it still gets down through the stitches on the curtain. I was hoping someone would have a “miracle” way of cleaning it. We are on our way home to a dry climate, hoping the mildew with die on its own without daily use.

      Alas yes, no panacea has come to my mind when it comes to cleaning - even bleach doesn't seem to cut the mustard. We also dry the inside of the curtain, then keep it partially open while running the bathroom fan all day. Seems to have kept it the mold at bay.

    I have had good luck with using S. C. Johnson's Scrubbing Bubbles as a coil cleaner on HVAC condensers. It seems to work as well as Nu-Calgon Nu Blast Condenser Air Conditioner Coil Spray, at a cheaper price. The are both alkaline based with the Scrubbing Bubbles being less alkaline but still works, you just have to let it sit for a bit longer.

      Nice, that's good advice, especially for not having to go out of your way for specialty supplies. I was just kind of guessing that something foaming was needed like the HVAC tech guys on RUclips used to really get far into the radiator.

    Do you recommend that ispring water filtration system you installed a while back on your old channel?

      I thought it was good at what it did. Water became noticeably cleaner, maintenance was easy, and the unit seemed well built. I'd probably buy it again if I had the need.

    You need a dehumidifier in the PNW wet season for this condition. I live here and we learned it from our folks who live on the coast. We have a Perfectaire model, their smallest one. We run in it in our 24' trailer for size reference. When we camp in wet season, it runs constantly. And often fills daily which is about half a gallon. And we're often hanging wet gear as well being we snowboard and camp in the rain half the year. If really shopping to fix this issue, look for a dehumidifier with an exterior drain option. This way, when at 80% humidity, you won't fill your tank and stop the machine, it'll just run and ring out the moisture from the air and send it down your sink. I made a 1/2" ID tubing tube rig for this. Went long sharing, but it was about the PNW, and this is a real problem here. And a dehumidifier is how you fix it. We even have small dessicant models in the closets in the winter. We just wore out a set some rechargeable types and had to replace them.

      @BOOTENWAGEN 6 месяцев назад

      The more you know! Yeah, we started keeping dessicants in some of the closets. We also got this teeny Hall effect type of dehumidifier, but it was extremely ineffective. The number of climate control devices got out of hand here in a hurry as we travelled all the climate zones - space heater, air purifier, humidifier, and dehumidifier lol.

    Seems like Thor still has this buggy situation on 2023 Vegas models based on E450 chassis (chasing this now)...I swear all these rv companies are run by meth heads.

      Wow still huh? My guess is they try to manufacture way too many variants and flavors of RVs and are having a very hard time keeping quality control straight.

      @@BOOTENWAGEN they have updated the bird in the 2023 vegas I am working on to a 00-00956-00 potted bi directional isolator relay . my milliamp draw was only 75ma which is good for about 2-3 weeks. 30 milliamps is usually good for a month. that quarter amp draw from your radio head unit seems high even for stand by mode. I have seen sub woofer amps and other cheap china audio stuff pull upwards of 150 ma (sleeping mode) but never more than that. The only beef I have with Thor is lack of documentation & the position of the relay and bird is right in front behind the grill which allows a lot of water to cause corrosion.
