So what should you actually include in your fixed costs? When it comes to budgeting, fixed costs are the non-negotiables-the expenses that stay the same every month, no matter what. These are the “must-pay” bills that keep your life running. 🏡✨ Here’s what to include: ✅ Housing Costs: Rent or mortgage payments. ✅ Utilities: Base fees for water, electricity, and internet. ✅ Insurance: Health, ca...

    The best money, is the one you have invested on a bank account bringing you more income. Don't let the system distract you. Don't do what is expected from society. When you have enough money to get the house of your dreams, then you can decide. I would recommend exploring other investments options, not onku 401. There are good ETFs and also public bonds available. Just be cautious and of course, diversify. Nasdaq has been performing so well in the last months that we should maybe wait for a correction, and then, invest when is "cheaper". Wishing you all the best my friend!

    Hi. I love your instagram shorts 💖 keep going! When you mentioned which cities you were considering, I realized you didn’t mention Boston. Me and my husband went there for a vacation (we live in DC) and we loved it!!! It is a walkable city full of history, with amazing views of the ocean, and amazing culture. We saw a lot of people commuting to work on bikes. It felt like we were in New York, but 10 times better. Definitely check it out. I think you would love it.

    My husband and I moved to a less-desirable and non-walkable area just to be able to buy a home, and while it served us well in some aspects... we also kinda regret it. Once we finish paying off my car and student loans, we're planning on selling and finding a rental back in the city. Our priorities are also walkability and being able to move with little notice (because we just love moving around) so homeownership just isnt right for us at this point. Maybe in the distant future, but not now. Im glad you both came to a conclusion thats right for you instead of being pressured by "conventional financial wisdom"!

    You mainly only have to have a full time job just to qualify for the mortgage. Also, they’d totally accept your content creation income once you can show that you’ve been doing it for a while and essentially prove that you’ll still be able to pay the mortgage with the income you have. It’s not like you have to keep them updated on where your income comes from once you already have the mortgage. But if waiting makes sense for you guys, do it!

    We bought a townhouse in 2020 when the market was much better and I’m glad we did. Our family has grown and the market value has gone up. However, our mortgage is up for renewal this year so we shall see what our payments will look like as the rates will be higher for sure.

    • @alexonabudget
      @alexonabudget 7 дней назад

      Are you located in a different country? I know in the UK they renew the mortgage rates every 5ish years? In the US you typically have a 15 or 30 year fixed rate.

    • @MariamNouser
      @MariamNouser 7 дней назад

      @ Yes! I am in Canada. We went with a 5 year fixed and thankfully we did even though a variable rate was enticing (lower rate to begin with but it would have skyrocketed). We are probably going to fix again depending on how the Bank of Canada rate goes in the next few months.

    • @MariamNouser
      @MariamNouser 7 дней назад

      Also wanted to add, we would have paid more for rent for what we need for our family than we do with our mortgage so it financially made sense for us to buy.

    Hey Alex. I love your content. So i hv a similar story. I am 36 living in india (Mumbai) . Me and my mom moved from our small town to this big city for my job 8 years back. We have alwayz made sure that we live in nice comfortable places within our financial reach. I was really happy renting places so far but recently even i thought about getting a place of my own. And man i couldnt get myself pay so much for such small spaces. My mom is very supportive and is willing to help me but i still feel pressured with the thought of it.Being a small town girl i am used to large spaces. Anywayz i do wish to buy my own piece of real estate and i shall keep my search on. One advice for you is look for auction properties. There are these properties which are with the banks since previous owners could not pay the loan. This is pretty sorted in the US as compared to India. You guys have systems that will show you such properties online. Check for the ones in your preffered location and then see if it makes sense to proceed.

      It's probably the biggest money decision for all of us so your feelings are totally valid! I hate that there is no one simple answer.

  • @Izzybeff1974
    @Izzybeff1974 8 дней назад

    It doesn't sound to me like you're giving up on home ownership, just delaying it until it becomes a larger priority to the both of you. We went against the norm when we bought our house. Instead of buying the most expensive home the bank would loan us money for, we bought what we had cash for and then spent 15 years paying cash and updating the home as we saved. For us, our main priority was not going into debt and we used that as our main consideration every time we made a decision. 18 years later, this has served us well.

    • @alexonabudget
      @alexonabudget 7 дней назад

      You are absolutely correct! We are not giving up completely. We want to just make an informed decision because it will be our most expensive decision.

  • @valli_chenae
    @valli_chenae 8 дней назад

    I totally agree that it's ok to hold off on buying a home! The overhead and maintenance costs of owning a home really add up, and the time that you will gain now by putting your money into savings and in investments will get you much closer to a retirement goal!

    I made the same decision a while ago. I'm 27 and feel like investing is better than spending all my money on a house right now. Maybe if things get better and prices go down it will make more sense to buy but probably not for a few years and by then I will have more to put down and pay less in interest.

    • @alexonabudget
      @alexonabudget 7 дней назад

      Totally valid! I hate that for our generation, home ownership is looking like the less ideal option unless you have a good chunk of cash.

  • @theowensthree

    I have owned a home at 23 (single), then again at 30 (married) and I didnt enjoy being a home owner during any of those times in my life. Even though I had good emergency funds. I think deep down my subconscious was telling me to not be tied down to anything because back in 2019 (age 35) my family of 3 became digital nomads and our life has changed for the best! I love your content so much and appreciate you. I no longer have debt so some of your content is not applicable to me anymore but it still gets me pumped up to save more- invest more -and explore more! We lived in 200 sqft as newly digital nomads traveling fulltime around America for the first 3 years if that 2019 in our motorhome. I love your content related to living small. I loved living small! Living small lets you live a lifestyle of minimalism, spending less and in turn where you can invest more! (which I am passionate about minimalism, travel, digital nomad life, budgeting & I want to start making content on it, you inspire me!)

    It's ok to hold off. I'm 32 as well and we have to give ourselves some grace. I also would be cautious to go 100% full time with content creation until your husband has a job in his field. Sometimes content creators have a hard time getting loans with social media income only.
