Tired Small Munsterlander Digs Deep to Retrieve Pheasant | Montana Pheasant Opening Week.
Even when our bird dogs are spent, they show their heart, dig deep and get to work. My 10+ year old female Small Munsterlander gets it done at the end of a great opening week in of Montana's 2024 Pheasant season. How old is your oldest Bird Dog? What's the oldest working dog you've even had?

Просмотров 2721 день назад
2 pheasants down in 2 minutes deep in the cattails on the Great Plains. Have you noticed how healthy these Roosters are in 2024?
Nice!!!
@@KarinGuertin yep, this coulee has had birds for me every time. Sometimes I gotta walk the whole damn thing but it holds ‘em!
Great, Thanks for outting one of my spots, D*ck!
Love that place!
I do too! Great spot to camp, view wildlife, stargaze, hunt and fish! 🐑 🔭 🎣
I just got a re homed one. Please for the love of god do not get this dog breed if you have small kids and its your first dog.
@@janpostma5381WOW, it sounds like you have a LOT going on at the house! I hope everything goes well. Is the dog not treating the kids well?
@CascadiaWingshooters no im sinlge and dont have kids. The previous owner had 3 smal kids. It was their first dog. An uncastrated male. He is now a bite hazard and extremly insucure. Im training him up as a gun dog but its a real challange.
Ooof, I hope it works out! I'm no trainer. While I trained my pup, I could have done MUCH better (first time training a dog). I learned a lot and will do better next time!
@@AKWingshooters i grew up with springers gwp's and munsterlanders and trained them for hunting. Im not an expert but not a novice either. Hunting breeds are generaly not suiteble for a first dog. Goldens and labs asside. My little buddy just got a bad start becouse of it.
@@AKWingshootershis last owners realy loved him but they didnt know hunting dogs.
What is the relation to English setters
Sooo I'm no expert on English Setters but the short answer is they are not related. SMs are from German stock and well, ESs are from the UK. Both are Pointers (although mine loves to flush more than point, but that's a trainer issue(me)). Do you have either breed?
@CascadiaWingshooters I used to have English setters and they look very similar mine would point until I got into position and then I would give a command and then it would flush and then they would retrieve it was kind of nice
@ oh yeah! That is very nice. Small Munsterlanders, properly trained will do the same. Mine is not trained to that level. She is not staunch on point…if a bird blinks she’s going in for the flush! Honestly it’s fine we get plenty of birds together. Where it does present a problem is in the chukar hills…I just can’t move fast enough there! I have to keep her very close when chukar hunting which isn’t as effective.
