Excellent channel, I don't have a violin but your repertoire seems to me one of the best in the world for this instrument. I will console myself by trying to study these melodies on my keyboard. I found a version by a mandolin player and that is how I learned it. A very catchy tune that "grabbed me". I just need to practice it for a few more days. Thanks Tom, Bob

Thanks for the excellent lesson. Respectfully suggest that the better "fiddler's eye view" is over the left shoulder so that the tips of the fingers can be seen and their positions on the fingerboard.

Nice video - 9/8 is not really unique, though: just not as common ( in western music) as 4/4 or 6/8. Virtually every barn-dance or ceilidh player needs to know at least on slip-jig. Then there's the Balkan-Turkish version, which is very common in that region: it breaks up the strong beats differently (2+2+2+3, rather than 3+3+3) - again, the dancing makes sense of it (most teenagers there can dance to it)

Lovely tune. When I was a child my grandmother had a record of Irish patriotic songs sung by a then young woman named Theresa Duffy. I loved that record and especially this tune with words about the rising of 1798. There were lines about a Father Murphy. This tune has rung in my mind for more than sixty years. She also sang a poem by my relative Charles Kickham, Slievenamon. Can't wait to learn this.
