5-Meo-DMT: Past, Present, and Future with Dr. Malin Uthaug
Dr Uthaug has a background in health and social psychology, completed her
PhD in Psychopharmacology at Maastricht University under supervision of Professor Johannes Ramaekers. Her doctoral dissertation featured five original naturalistic observational studies on the effects of Ayahuasca and 5-MeO-DMT, and was completed in record speed (2,5 years) making her a PhD by the age of 27.
After her PhD defense, Dr Uthaug worked at The Centre of Psychedelic Research at Imperial College London, previously led by Professor Robin Carhart-Harris, now led by Dr David Erritzøe. Here she continued exploring the effects of not only 5-MeO-DMT, but also (Holotropic) Breathwork.
Today, she is co-leading a fir...

    I have a question.... I have been hearing some people say that the brain itself is responsible and is creating these semi conscious mechanical elves when high on DMT... that it's all just an illusion... that it is not real or a real reality... OK... let's take that as a premise... If this is so, then how do we know when we come back from a DMT trip, back to this reality, that the brain is not doing the same thing to this reality ? How do we know that everything around us is real or not that it's not also an illusion just like the mechanical elves !!! Do you guys see where I'm going with this? ..... it's a paradox.... I believe that this reality is just as much a simulation as the DMT reality.... Or, am I wrong, and both realities are real ??? lol 😂

    My 5-MeO experience was very disappointing. I was paralyzed on the spot and countless insects attacked me while I was lying in the grass surrounded by white light. No visions, no insights, even though I got the pipe 3 times. My medicine is the Colombian Yagé. It has taught and helped me a lot! Ayahuasca with Chaliponga is also great. Chaliponga contains 5-MeO-DMT.

    Hmm, if I had a dollar for every time someone projected 'Aliens' onto the new and inexplicably looking thing they found... Thanks for your theorizing, needs doing, but this is very unlikely imho. Too many assumptions that need to work out just right, special human biology that can receive from aliens with special magical abilities. Sounds like a movie script, contradicting Occam's razor. If the aliens can do magic, they can talk to sober humans too.

    A short trip report: Hadn't done psychedelics in more than 30 years. I smoked the toad venom last year on the morning of my 74th birthday. Probably didn't have a "breakthrough" experience, but the sense of being a particular local identity disappeared in about 30 seconds. Then a feeling of zooming or expanding into a magenta colored universe of galaxies. Overwhelming-(!)--but no "me" to protect or struggle. Then about 20 minutes of re-identifying with this planet and body. So good I couldn't stop grinning. Mostly I'm not worried about figuring it all out anymore...everything is fine. I hope bodily death is like this experience.

    It seemed to be implied that the toads were significantly harmed or killed to harvest the 5-meo-dmt which simply isn't the case. Is there potential for abuse to these creatures to acquire the raw materials, sure, but I would suggest the body will react subtly different to a chemical manufactured by scientists in a laboratory and also the cultural context is missing, which is important to the overall vibe of the ceremony. I mean we could stop wild harvesting plants and animals like deer or kangaroo for meat and medicine and just eat Bill Gates lab meat and consume synthetic herbal extracts created by some pharmaceutical company but anyone in their right mind will be able to see the problems there.

      @@justsay1n692 Hi All ..Toad ceremony 6days ago, I went with anxious excitement, not really scared. I thought if it’s bad, it’s only 15-20mins My recollection after that deep intake( I practice breathing exercises and cold water immersion daily, so my 2stage in-breath is good) Firstly a kaleidoscope of white triangles/ patterns, then I think I freaked out wtf, stop, too much! This lasted for a brief moment( I think), kinda heard my guide gently telling me to breathe. No recollection of getting up, but I was up and ecstatically speaking to the guides, I could see their faces, yet they were vibrating lines. Vibrating lines of pure love. I was the universe, the creator..I remember saying “ wtf wtf is this it? Is this life? Is this the universe” their faces were pure love. I believe I was the divine or what ever people call it, didn’t want it to end, it was everything that is, pure love and happiness. The colours, the feeling…everything was unworldly indescribable! They must of lay me down, the music, the beat of the drum, the sound forks, the sound bowls, they were all so amazing and changed the visions I could see. The guides started to sing, it was beautiful, in my mind I had the biggest content smile imaginable. I’d just seen life, the creation, the universe, there was no fear, the fear of the unknown had been answered..it was the most profound experience one could ever imagine. I felt I needed to come back, I was in a green field of dreams..voices of angels singing my way home. The rest of the day I was the happiest person on earth. The talk we had after with shaman and guide, they said I had channelled lots of energy for which they were very grateful as this doesn’t happen often and the place I went, we can all go there, it’s all within ourselves 🙂 The Day after Well this took a turn, I woke up at around 4:30am panicked, went downstairs, glass of water, man I was freaking out and I have no idea why? I’ve never had a panic attack,but I think this was one. Called my friend, he calmed me down, woke my partner up, she just held me, I was shaking. I calmed down, did some breathing but even that scared me. Few hours later..boom, happened again..thought I was going insane. I had no power and no control over my mind, it was terrifying, I took a sedative and I was ok all day..not right but ok Day two, this morning I woke up again about 1:30, slight panic but managed to calm my mind down, repeating “ it’s ok it’s allllll ok” fell back asleep, Woke up at 6:30am( my normalish time) wasn’t too bad, then came downstairs and had another slight wobble, nothing like yesterday though. I’m hoping these will become less and less( they better do ha) Been for run, ice bath and tried to do some breathwork, but that kinda freaked me out( if anyone hasn’t done breathwork, it puts you in an altered state) I’m ok..but feel extremely fragile, that the panic could reappear at any moment..roll on next week 🙂 x Day3 Tad afraid of going to sleep, I feel like I know what’s going to happen. It did, around 1:30am woke up by the overwhelming feeling, it’s not a cool. However I was prepared, by totally relaxing my body, my neck, face and jaw and giving in, let it go, not to fight it. It was like taking a hit, yet much lesser. My partner, was holding my hand and I was out for a few moments. When I came back around, I was unbelievably relaxed and felt good. Back to sleep, for my alarm to wake me up at 6:30am..it happened again, yet I was up and couldn’t control it, anxiety through the roof! Had to take the day off work. I’ve been meditating and doing gentle breath work, few reactivations but was in the right place to deal with them. Hoping this gets easier day by day x Day 4 This was arguably the worst day so far. Broke down( not cried for a very long time) my thought pattern was I’ve really damaged myself, anxiety again through the roof. My brother took me Liverpool for some one on one nlp, with a special guy, who deals in this field. He calmed me, breaking down my thought pattens and doing exercises. Spent a good 2hrs with him. Home time, the drive home was around 1.5hrs I felt a surge of anxiety, this was the worst, I completely lost my shit, take me the hospital bry I need the hospital, I needed knocking out with sedation, I felt like I wanted to jump out the car, my thoughts “ I’m still tripping, I’m having a bad Tripp, I need to rebirth and wake up) obviously I didn’t do that, it was simply a thought, however I screamed and screamed and screamed( I probably terrified my brother in the process) almost immediately after, a sense of calm came over me, I curled up and just lay there for the rest of the journey, my brother holding me as best as he could. Home..I felt calm, I held my daughter and partner..I still felt calm. The anxiety that I’ve had since friday, had completely gone..I admit i was kinda waiting for it’s return..but it hasn’t. I felt like I’d came home, i was back. Had some good news in the evening, which gave additional acceptance of the last 4 days, My partners friend is head of A&E manchester infirmary. Tuesdays, they get the most people coming in, with similar experience such as mine. His consultant friend explained, I’ve not damaged myself, although the toad has gone, it’s takes time for molobites/metabolites( I can’t remember what they are called) which are attached to the brain to be released and it can take upto 7days. It happened to me because I’ve basically had a reaction, almost allergic reaction. This most probably due to me having past anxiety and depression( I didn’t think I had it before I took this). Kinda explains why a small percentage go through what I did. 10 of us took the ceremony, it was only me suffered. Day 5 During the night, I had a reactivation, but it was calm and gentle and I’ve had the best night sleep since Friday. I don’t feel like I have been, I feel 100times better. Will go on a small run, Ive bath after. May even go to work tomorrow, I couldn’t even comprehend these thoughts yesterday. Later in the day. It all started to happen again..rough night Day 6 rough morning, can’t take it, going the drs. Anxiety and panic attacks are horrific, I can’t actually define what I’m panicking about..this is surreal. I question if I’m still tripping!

      Does she say that explicitly? Just because they don't mention having used it themselves, doesn't mean they haven't. I think many scientists researching psychedelics have used them, in illegal settings, like you and your buddies. They just tend to be careful about what they say in public.

    I have noticed that mushrooms and 'acid' relieved my pain for some time, and I have read that cacti containing mescaline, were used in South and Meso American "Shamanic" medicine for treating several types of pain and autoimmune states. I have just thought it was a good side effect of the effect on the mind. Considering that the 5HT2 and sigma receptors are also responsible for intracellular signalling, I should have thought of the immune system as a possible site for the action against chronic pain conditions... Great lecture!

    I smoked 5-meo-DMT recently with profound spiritual effects (this is for strong brave hearts): 1) feeling of death and rebirth 2) telepathic communication with divin consciousness 3) communication with eternal spiritual masters 4) no visual patern or entity 5) forget to breath Peace & love

    It also doesn’t suck if you are in a car and have a reactivation. A reactivation is not intense like the initial use. You just feel some of the similar emotions it would not be dangerous to be driving a vehicle. You can clearly tell she has not tried the substance she studies.

      Countless people have not tried the substances they study. It's not a disadvantage. If anything, with all the confusion around psychedelics, not having done them might help reduce the confusion around them.

    Way earlier use of 5-meo-DMT and the only reason she is studying and promoting synthetic is bc she can’t be pharma funded for the natural bufo alvarius.

    • @DutchmanAmsterdam
      @DutchmanAmsterdam Год назад

      If the synthetic molecule is exactly the same as the naturally derived one there will be no difference in experience and the dosing is perfect plus no toads need to be abused for it. Also the cost should be near to nothing. Problem is it's all hard to obtain because of the illegality.

    • @tiggerbiggo
      @tiggerbiggo Год назад

      There is nothing missing from a synthetic 5meo experience, and given the extreme effects and increased use by people, it's best for people to use synthetic to save the toads from being endangered from over hunting.
