Strange Lights over Littleton
On the evening of Nov 20, 2023 at approximately 11:14 pm MST my wife and I observed these lights in the distance. At first we thought they were just spotlights, but then we realized they couldn’t be spotlights because there were no beams visible projecting up from the ground. I grew up in a big city and often saw spotlights to promote new businesses and the lights were not consistent with the behavior and appearance of any spotlights I've seen. Based on the directional measurements I calculated the location to be above Littleton, CO north of Chatfield Reservoir. The lights traveled at speeds up to 4,300 mph.
Cloud elevation was 6,499 ft (1.23 mi), humidity 55%, wind from the north at 15 mp...

Mauser Kar 98k Bore Cleaning
Просмотров 9893 года назад
I recently picked up this old Yugo Mauser. I ran a bore scope through it, cleaned it and ran the bore scope again for comparison and just thought I would share the results. How does this bore compare to old military rifles you have seen? Is this a decent bore? Any recommendations for cleaning?

Mauser M18 7mm Rem Mag Review
Просмотров 11 тыс.6 лет назад
Here's a quick review of my Mauser M18 in 7mm Rem Mag. SPOILER ALERT: it didn't work. I couldn't get ammunition to chamber. Other than not working it seems like a good solid rifle. I weighed mine at 6 lb 13 oz. The diameter at the muzzle is 0.650" and the magazine capacity is 4 (not 5 like it says on some descriptions). I'm really bummed that I couldn't shoot it.

How old was that ram. About 7?
If you would place your feet at 12 (left foot) And 3 right foot Bend your left knee just a little And lean into the rifle just past your bent knee And then you can roll with the recoil Great video
Was that S3? I had that tag a few years ago and had to return it due to stuff that came up. It looks a lot like what I had scouted on Google Earth.
I’ve always wanted a 375 but couldn’t afford the H&H the Mossberg came along and I bought one some said it was plastic garbage but I thought it has to shoot a bullet I looked in the barrel and it looked like it had been shot at least 20 times it was filthy I cleaned on it for an hour and it still didn’t look all that good the crown look like shit wasn’t at all square and had carbon built up in it a new gun doesn’t have this anyway took it and shot it 5 times and it turned my arm purple it was way to light brought it home and decided I would keep it I took the stock and filled all the voids with fiberglass resin and fishing sinkers the back stock I stuffed wheel weights in it and brought the weight up to 11 lbs I fixed the crown I put hash marks on the iron sight so I could adjust it I don’t think I will put a scope on it because it kicks so hard shooting the Hornady 270 grain DGX it will hit dead center of the bullseye at 35 yards with the iron sights the barrel is still rough inside I may lap it eventually but it’s nice to have a rifle that will drop anything on the planet it has quite a bit more fpe than the 338 and about 200 fps faster than the H&H but more recoil.
how much did this cost you?
Man it's been so long I don't recall. I'm seeing some on Gunbroker currently in the $700-$800 range though
Isn't that isn't that called there Safari" instead of being part of the Patriot series? Maybe it is a patriot .
I don't think so. I still have the original box from Mossberg and it says "Patriot" as the model.
This is how all gun videos should be very nice job 💯👍
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
mossberg, and ALL rifles need a safety that locks the bolt close, otherwise ...walk 10 feet and the bolt is open, filled with trash, and the cartridge has fallen out.
A little less scuzzy but not in the white yet!
Great video! Windy! Beautiful ram! I was very lucky in drawing a Desert in Colorado, my first year applying. Deserts are straight lottery, no points used. I ended up with a small ram, but I could care less. Very very difficult hunt. I said I'm done sheep hunting. Two years later, I can't wait to draw a Rocky. I am obsessed with sheep now. You are 100% going to want to do it again.
Thank you! And wow, first year applying and you drew a desert bighorn?! That's amazing. Congrats!
My M18 in 308 feeds best with Russian PPU ammo, I was looking at a Howa 1500 rifle, the bolt breaks down like the M18 bolt.? are they made by the same company?.
very cool
The recoil isn’t bad at all. All of you were being dramatic and had horrible shooting form. Be funny to see you sissies shoot a real big bore.
Congrats on the great ram. I enjoyed watching your video. Last year I drew the one Colorado desert sheep tag it was a fun hunt and great experience also.
That’s awesome you drew a desert sheep tag! Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for the feedback
This would be nice with a muzzle brake for backpacking great 400 yard and under round
Savage 16FCSS is the true Weather Warrior. You can tell from the rifle mounted magazine release, metal magazine bottom plate and Accustock. Other Savage 16/116 with the cheap Axis plastic magazines and non-Accustock are not Weather Warriors. I have 2 Savage 16FCSS Weather Warrior rifles in 223 Remington and 338 Federal cartridges.
Great video, man. Been on the fence about this 375 Ruger. Some folks say it’s more powerful than the 338 win mag, which I own, but idk, that 338 slaps’em hard, but I can’t say for sure, having never tested the 375 ruger. Any input from you guys, and even y’all here in the comments, would be greatly appreciated. Just sub’d to the channel btw.
Hi thanks for the comments. I would say the 375 Ruger is definitely more powerful than a 338. Look at it this way…the 375 is the minimum caliber allowed to hunt dangerous game in some African countries. But unless you plan on going to Africa or hunt brown bears I think the 338 is more than capable and probably has a ballistic advantage at longer ranges. Having said all that I think the 375 Ruger is pretty awesome and I just wanted one😉
@@lopeztho Thanks a lot for the input. I appreciate it. I may buy one myself just to have. Seems like an awesome cartridge.
@@lopeztho 375 has some fantastic long range i use a 375 chetac custom and i reload high bc bullets into the ruger but i also have a 338-378 weatherby whoch out performs any other 338 lol
This gun would kill a Bigfoot.
Hahaha why do you think I bought it?!
Big Foot can never die..
Is for 7mm remington magnum?
yes
I would of liked to see what kind of accuracy you got with it
I agree. I was half tempted to get another one just because I liked the design and features of it.
my M18 308 with a Bushnell scope is accuract, i worked sanding sharp edges on the stock also worked on bolt to bake it quit.
I have 2 of these rifles one in 270 one in 300wm. Love them both
Wicked
Great job capturing the scenery and scale on video. Congrats on the sheep!
Thank you! Definitely the hunt of a lifetime.
Looks like you still have a lot of copper in that barrel. Hoppe’s #9 is good for a deer rifle or a light use gun but these old military guns have a lot of rounds through them with usually not high quality ammo. I would use something a little bit more potent like gunslick foaming bore cleaner or solvent 7.62 bore cleaner.
I have some 7.62 so I'll try some and see how it does compared to the Hoppe's. Thanks for the suggestion!
@@tomlopez1282 how’d it work?
@@TheCosmicGuy0111 The rifle? It shot fine. I loaded 200 gr Nosler Partitions, Winchester brass (new), WLR primers and Varget. I worked up to 47.5 gr and was seeing around 2571 fps. I don't recall the group sizes, but I was shooting the factory iron sights at 100 yd so I probably didn't shoot it up to its potential.
Another question! What rifle caliber/build was used? Looks custom! Thanks again for sharing this great video!
It was a custom rifle from Plains Precision in Sterling, CO. It's a 6.5 Creedmoor with Remington 700 action (trued), 22" Bartlein barrel, Manners carbon fiber stock, Trigger Tech trigger, Hawkins rings and Leupold VX5 HD scope with the Windplex reticle. He was shooting Berger 140 gr Hybrids at about 2800 fps. It dropped the ram with one shot. This was actually his second sheep hunt if you can believe it. The previous one was a ewe hunt and he used the same action but it was on a factory Remington 700 SPS in 7mm-08. He dropped the ewe with one shot shooting 140 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip at 365 yd. Both of these were great cartridges for sheep. I don't think you can go wrong taking a 6.5 or 7mm on one of these hunts. Personally I wouldn't go smaller than 25 cal or bigger than 30 cal. Good luck!
PS Van over at Plains Precision specializes in sheep rifles so I highly recommend him
@@lopeztho thanks you for the response I truly appreciate it! I definitely love my 6.5 creedmoor, have only taken one animal with it, a mule at about 180 yards dead right there! Tremendous accuracy and terminal performance out to 3-400 yards imo!
So awesome! I like how excited he was after his first ram! And the line of saying, "I don't know if I'll want to do this again lol!" It really resonates the famous Jack O'Connor's quote, "There is no halfway.. After his first exposure, a man is either a sheep hunter or he isn't. He either falls under the spell of the sheep hunting and sheep country or he won't be caught dead on another sheep mountain." I can't wait to go on my first sheep hunt, being a first generation hunter, I've never had the opportunity to accompany my father on any hunts. He has fully supported me on my venture and I just hope I can go on at least one sheep hunt with him by my side! Congratulations to your son, I know this memory with you will be with him forever. I'm pretty sure by the excitement it brought him that this is his first of many! Lastly, did he draw this tag as a resident or non-resident? Great video, again!
Thank you! It was an amazing experience and we'll never forget it. We're both avid hunters and this was truly the toughest hunt we've even been on. Just to get to the sheep we hiked up 13,000'+ peaks (starting around ~11,000'). The toughest part was definitely the pack out carrying all that weight on exposed ridgelines all the wind was blowing 30+ mph! Well good luck in drawing a sheep tag! He drew as a resident by the way.
@@lopeztho awesome, thanks you!
Id call that more of an view than review. Nice looking rifle overall. The bolt is like the post 64 model 70 Winchester in the appearance of the extraxtor and lug arrangement. I like it but the detachable mag on this rifle is a sin. Ive got the Ruger Alaskan in 375 and prefer the control feed. Also got an Rigby 416 mauser and its an huge rifle with massive reciever. I find the small Ruger Alaskan much handier
Yeah that's fair. I hope to post a part 2 where I do some accuracy testing with some different ammo. Thanks for your comment.
I also have a first run Alaskan in .375 (no muzzle break) and it is just so bloody rugged and reliable. I cant say its a lightweight because fully loaded with a scope and a 9rd ammo belt on the stock it weighs 10.2 lbs. It is no worse in perceived recoil impulse than my 7.5lb Winchester extreme weather in .30-06 375 Ruger is a great round for me.
Yes, but at a hideous price increase!! So I bought 2 &1/2 rifles for price of 1 Ruger.
Great Ram! Congratulations. Love to see the video. I have been blessed to take my Rocky and California in Idaho. Nothing like sheep hunting! My wife got her Rocky in Idaho. Now if only she could draw the California tag......
Nice! Congrats on your rams too! I'm still waiting to draw my CO Rocky tag. Can't believe my son drew before I did haha! Thanks for the comment.
Good review. Might be the one I got out bid on gunbroker haha !
Thanks. Was it a few months ago? If so then it probably is the same gun! I picked up another one so I might be listing this one in the near future.
@tom Finally got myself a Patriot in 375 Ruger. Now i get to have fun hopefully.
@@Mr480junkie Nice! Hopefully you found some ammo or got some loads worked up. Let me know how she shoots!
@@tomlopez1282 I did find some on gunbroker and got a decent deal too. Now to get time to shoot.
Good review 👍🏻
Thank you. I hope to post some load development and accuracy testing in the near future
I also see you went by the mall and my house on the way
What unit is this in I am looking for sheep hunts in my home state of Colorado
I have this rifle in 6.5 prc it’s worked flawlessly so far and with 156 Berger’s its consistently shooting .75 or less at 100 .
Right on. I wish I had the same experience with mine

Love those high country rams! Congratulations!
Nice job
The accu stock adds weight.
Awesome ram congratulations, how many points did it take you to draw the tag
Thanks! My son had 7 points and drew. I had 14 and didn’t draw so go figure
My 110 storm which is the newer version of the weather warrior shoots lights out.
Glad you liked it and thanks for the feedback!
Thanks! So many videos on RUclips review the Raven Pro, yet almost all are long-winded and rarely show the scanner in action at a reasonable greyscale level. Your video gets to the point quickly. MUCH APPRECIATED!
Yeah no
I have one, the extractor has to go over the rim of the brass, just push it hard. Edit: don’t mean to offend with the “it took me about a minute” I just like to manhandle my rifles and treat them hard.
With groups like that, it becomes harder to justify a $2k rifle... amazing.
I have this in 0.223 with spring floor magazine and 24" fluted medium heavy barrel. Pretty much the same. Fantastic! !
1 in the chamber and 4 in the clip, if you have 5 rounds in the clip the action has to be open. My fathers 308 does the same although it is lever action instead of bolt action.
TOM DID YOU GET A REFUND OR ANY CUSTOMER SERVICE? Do you have an update I’m in the market to buy this rifle but need to know more
Frank, yes I did get a full refund from the Gunbroker merchant (Craigs Outdoors). Couldn't be happier with their customer service.
Truth is- I hope you tried this........ Mauser is very German. Not American. You can’t handle it like a Frenchman..... Mauser has very tight tolerances and the bolt locks in the barrel very tight. I own an m18 in 7mm. The bolt is tight. You slam it. You don’t finger it. You slam and whack. It fits tight and for me has been sub MOA. Will say, as time goes by- you don’t have to slam it, just firm. But when new, you slam it like your trying to detonate it.
Ok, good to know. Maybe that was the problem...I just wasn't using enough force. Thanks for the comment!
B Lorelai how is your m18? I’m interested in buying one in 7 rem mag have you had any issues?
You really do have to slam the bolt with a nice whack. It’s a large tight fitting tight sealing bolt. Otherwise it’s almost identical to Ruger American. Ruger American was looser, little more rattles when shook. Either gun is great for any normal use. The Mauser has a crowned barrel. The tight bolt is related to two large extractors that ensure brass always ejects at 90 degrees and clears the scope. Like most rifles brass can hit the scope and fall back down and jam your chamber. So that’s a very small but nice feature. I paired mine with a Burris, as Burris is a reasonable scope that is also underrated. The caliber is made for distance. I use Hornady high performance 139gr.
I shoot mine this weekend I did kinda the same in the video and while reading the comments thank you it worked fine just gotta break it in slam the bolt
buy a club.
This just happened to my brand new mauser m18 in 6.5 prc. I did finally get it to chamber after getting it stuck... Only chambered when applying brute force to the bolt or by leveraging the bolt by the knob. Sounds kinda weird but that outer torque was needed to reliably pick up and insert the round. Which seems likely that it's the extractor. Could also be a tight chamber. Calling eurooptic tomorrow to facilitate a return. I'll be sure to link this video.
Just heard back from mauser. Apparently the magnum calibers had bad extractor spring issue. I'll report back if the new spring fixes the problem.
@@jpmc271 I just picked up the m18 in .308 and it works perfectly. Tried several different factory loads and it chambered them without issue.
@@jpmc271 did the new spring fix it?
Spring did not fix it. I exchanged the rifle. New rifle chambers quite a bit better. I think mine was a fluke. Eurooptic was great about the exchange. Can't recommend them enough.
@@jpmc271 because i might get one in 300 win mag and i really dont want this to happen
Just hit the bolt with a hammer....jk. Ever find out what the problem was?
Not really, although Mauser finally did reply saying they suspected it was the extractor. The Gunbroker dealer I purchased it from offered to take it back with a full refund so I went that route.
are these hand loaded rounds or store purchased...ive had this happen on a 300 weatherby magnum turns out the bullet wasnt seated properly when loaded
Hi, at first I was using handloads. When they weren't chambering I went to the store and picked up a brand new box of Federal ammo and they still weren't chambering.
