Godin Fat Black II Guitar Play and Review
Hi. Good tips! Did you have to make any adjustments on the slots of the nut in order to find the right string hight? thank you.
I'm very interested in fitting a similar nut in my Charvel. What are your thoughts on it now that it's been a while since you've had it installed?
What’s the backing track’s name? It sounds solid
Thanks for watching It’s just a tune I wrote for the videos
Great video! I'm considering the Graphtech no-nut. How has it held up? Ive had good luck with Graphtech in the past.
@@ThirdEsquire182 it’s held up well. The guitar has since found a new owner. I need to build another one Thanks for watching.
Get some hex keys with the handle on them. Easier to use
Don't get it, the entire idea of a Floyd is that it locks at the nut, and by that avoiding any friction behind the nut (not the same as at the tuners), and also the string is shorter when locked at the nut, so why have a Floyd at all?
Why the software app can't run on my computer? Make me crazy...
How do you handle the different sides of the guitar? Do you flip it over when the front and sides are done, or what?
Hi Dan just wondering, how do you go to landscape mode for the app? I’m running a 2024 iPad Pro … cheers!
Well done...you've given me some new ideas for my old koa Strat w/floyd bridge and locking nut. Been looking for a way or method to go back to a non-locking nut foe while now. Cheers on this!!
1:58 Thanks for the video. Its hard to find app info or how to connect with ios/ os. I’m guessing this is by wire? Btw, do have my own music corner in the house but i also have several other places where i pickup a guitar, like the dinner table or in front of the tv. And i’m always checking my surroundings so i wont hit something with the guitar. And seeing this vid i can see myself smashing the neck into the aquarium already 😳😅😶
I want to play your guitar ❤ I see there is an earvana nut there. Makes it sound extra in tune!
A wood router with 1” reamer could be useful .
Hey, have you finally got round to refinishing the bass? What colour did you choose? I also own an RB820SS and I'm considering giving it a natural finish, but I don't know if the wood grain below the varnish is anything to look at. Can you advise? BTW: Love the intro song and your unorthodox style of playing the bass guitar 🙂.
You can actually leave that shim out between the bridge and the blocks it help with getting better sustain and tone without the shim dampening the block contact
soooo, call me dumb but locking tuners are just a creature comfort that make string changes easier right? they do fek all to tuning stability?
Correct you need tuners with no backlash on the gears so you can tune up and down easier
Which would be better for an LTD F-50 FR ? 13.75" SCALE . 42mm but I believe they come in 10,12,16"radius. Just get a 16 n file?
Great song. Love the diamondback. I'm torn between if I should get binding on the neck for a diamond back or not.
If the floyd is dive only can you still tune to drop d without jacking up the tuning?
So I’ve just bought the stage 2 second have and it’s on version 1.4 and the app on my phone is 1.2. The app and stage won’t connect via blu tooth. Is that because they are different versions? When I go to connect it says blu tooth isn’t enabled and do I need to update the unit via my lap top. I was hoping it could all be done by wifi
Hi Dan just wondering, how do you go to landscape mode for the app? I’m running a 2024 iPad Pro … cheers!
somehow the onscreen button for landscape mode is not present on my device.
Thank you so much you really save my life
I am considering this for a Stratocaster...do you apply a sealer to the body?
Yes mate. I did a grain filler first, then sanded back before beginning this process. Cheers for watching.
Each patch has its own master volume at the top of the screen. You adjust the patch volume from there. The knob itself is the master volume for the unit. I do agree, I loathe the volume difference between clean and gain patches. It's like that on most units aside from Ampero.
You can get a special tool for adjusting intonation on a floyd. If you block the trem and use the tool it's slightly less awful to do intonation. Skyscraper guitars makes a set of tools for floyd setup that make it much better.
Cheers mate I will look into that
I’ve done all those mods on guitars myself. It’s really fun & I always learn things. I wish I could do guitar set ups for a living😂. I have so many guitars that if I go ahead to change strings on 1. I usually do 2 or 3 while I have the time 😂✅. Great Job Enjoy & Rock n Roll 🤘😎🇺🇸🇬🇧🏴Cheers 🍻
Legend, thanks for watching. Love the journey of guitars and just trying out new and old ideas
"3 Floyd Rose Must do's" #1: Remove Strings. #2: Detach the Floyd Rose; bridge & nut from the guitar. #3: Take the detached Floyd Rose; bridge & nut from the guitar. #4: Promptly to your trash bin and drop them in. Close the lid.
😂 Well that’s definitely a different approach, cheers for watching
@@Danduncanguitars LOL. Yeah man I don't like'um. in the late 90's; I bought a Jackson/Charvel. Strat'ish with a Floyd Rose on it. Seemed to make sense at the time.. Wrong & Nope. For a player at my skill level ? (mediocre at best) That Floyd ..is way more trouble that it's worth. Still have the guitar; never played it much. still don't.. Never at a gig. Now it's too old/vintage to mess with. Great looking wall art.
@@randallhaney7909 I totally understand. The motive of this video was to demonstrate another way, inspired by Guthrie Govan method.
@@Danduncanguitars I get it.. nice job thanks Boss
@@randallhaney7909tbh I was the same way and almost sold my first guitar cause I hated taking it to a tech and hated trying to set it up myself, but I learned early and now I find the setup process quite fun
Try intonating the guitar, then put the locking nut on correctly. I can change strings on a floyd as fast as you can on any guitar. Everything youre doing here is a compromise, when your guitar isnt set up correctly. Try that first.
No worries
Nice. I might have to do the same to my old Carvin. The nut it came with is a bit odd. For whatever reason the B string got cut lower than the other notches and it constantly makes this high pitch buzz when it's played open. So I've been wanting to replace the nut for years. Since I've got locking tuners it kinda makes sense to go with one of these. And I also tend to block the Floyd Rose alot too so I might have to try the Tremol-no too. Thanks.
Glad it’s useful to you. I believe anything that makes the instrument more enjoyable to play. Why not
So you're a lefty who plays guitar right handed? Me too,
Yeah mate 🤘🏻 Had the choice when we started learning. Don’t know about you but I find learning the finger licks really easy, though the right had needs more effort with rhythm?
Im a righty who plays lefty!
Thank you so very much for filming this. I am currently learning so much stuff about the floyd rose, i was worried i could not change my tuning anymore! I feel reassured, thank you!
Thanks for watching, really appreciate the positive vibe
could have saved some money and left the locking nut on but remove the locking pads. will work better than any regular nut and never have to file for different string sizes... plus if you want to lock it again, you could
Indeed I could and very plausible method. but where’s the discovery? It’s all a journey. Thanks for watching
Good Stuff man! i recommend also getting an EVH d-tuna. your gonna be solid with that guitar :)
Cheers mate, that’s a great recommendation
It had a locking nut for a reason when using the trem your strings loosen at the tuning pegs post the strings can shift if dive bombing it the nut locking stops that you might as well just bought a strat because it's going to fall out of tune
It’s staying in really well and I can change my tuning on the fly. Thank you for your feedback
Would that be an issue with locking tuners? String is locked at post.
@@JD-vj4go Not at all. Works fine
@@JD-vj4go it's the loosing of the string during a dive bomb they can shift if you have a few winds if not you should be fine
should've marked your saddles, unless you love intonating a floyd rose 😅
That’s a solid tip. Cheers for watching
Locking tuners are not comparable to a locking nut, it will no longer stay in tune like it should without a locking nut. These mods ruin the functionality of a perfected design, but hey, to each their own.
Actually it’s staying in tune fine. The self lube nut is doing wonders, if I was doing dive bombs yes the locking nut would be needed. Open your mind brother to the world of possibilities. But thank you for the feedback
I’ve been using Brazil locking tuners with my Floyd rose for years, and my guitar stays perfectly in tune. I have no problems.
@@zendragonmindtuner6207 I'm talking about doing divebombs and pulling up like Dimebag. A Floyd Rose guitar needs the nut locked if you want it to stay in tune under heavy use.
Its doesn't stay in tune with a locking nut either😂
@@s.d.g.global4582 You don't stretch your strings.
I'm currently changing a floyd nut with a gtaphtec and was worried about it not fitting well, and leaving a bit of a mess. You may have just saved my life. (And my vintage Strat that I stupidity put a floyd on in my younger days). 👍
Glad the video is useful. Cheers for watching
Maybe he forgot to mention that you just need to do that for half an hour or until your arms are sore, let it sit overnight and go through the same process everyday for a month 😂
Indeed it’s not a fast process
@@Danduncanguitars I'm doing my first French polish on a small piece of wood, I'm on the second day and I'm already questioning my life choices. I'm probably doing something wrong but I can't visualize the wood getting that smooth mirror like gloss and I also can't imagine doing that on a entire acoustic guitar. I gotta be patient but it's a long ass process and my arm and my hand are hurting 😂
@@ThiagoCP I don’t know if this helps. I found trying combination different Linen rags and Shellac brands. I tried synthetic material and it would rub off the polish until switched
@@ThiagoCP Shellac dries quickly as alcohol evaporates. You can put on another coat once it’s dried. That means you can put on a new coat every hour, and in a day you can put on ten or more coats.
@@einsam_aber_freiRight, of course it doesn't take a month.
Hi, I have an Ampero Stage 2, how do I install the Android app? I downloaded the Ampero II Stage Setup V1.0.2 for Android file but I don't know how to install it on my phone. Thanks for the reply
Why not just rise the whole tailpiece instead?
Thanks for watching, yes that would totally work too
So did the app ever work?
Yes. I reinstalled and I believe there’s been an update since. Which is great to know they are serious about future improvements. Looking to do a follow up video soon
Hi Dan, thanks for your review. With the save button you can save a single patch. I miss the button to export (save) all patches as a backup on my Mac, like with most modellers. Could you indicate how to do this?
I’m currently using this on a PC, I will look into Mac, does seem strange that would be missed. Thanks for watching
@@Danduncanguitars FYI, by accident I noticed that by right clicking on a patch a submenu appears. This enables import, export, rename, copy, delete and even categorize according to genre. Also by accident I was able to select multiple patches by holding down shift-key, but that worked only once 😞
Does the second input work with a second guitar or bass? If so, have you tried with two at the same time? Curious if the unit can handle it. Cool video!
Cheers for watching, I will have a dig around on the unit and get back to you.
@@Danduncanguitars I've been snooping around and apparently that second input is for mic/line only, so you would need some sort of pream/di to plug another instrument in. Im considering getting this pedal, but since it's a pretty new product I haven't seen anything about running two parallel signal chains with instruments.
@@sobaquitus You are a legend. I believe that’s correct. I can only find a single path for guitar/bass. Unless a future firmware update changes this.
Please note before commenting This video is nearly a decade old. For achieving and for those wanting to look up eg Jazzmaster Warmoth Floyd Rose hopefully for inspiration for their build.
Use that mf bridge :(
Cheers for watching, if i could go back 10 years and tell myself that :)
I’ve been looking on warmoth and can’t figure out how to get a JM body with a floyd rose bridge route
@@angus0642 if you visit warmoth home website, select body- Jazzmaster - customise- in option- bridge - tremolo - then fixed or floating Floyd option.
Does this prove, EMGs make any guitar sound good?
Chibsons are not bad guitars at all... Well it may vary I think, buy I got a LP that left my Gibson usa collecting dust on the stand.
👍👍
Is it possible to connect a phone to that modeller and use the camera app? (Wherein the audio will be from the ampero)
Hi and thanks for watching. Haven’t tried that so far.
@@Danduncanguitars Alright thanks
Correction - Guitar is made Mahogany wood Neck and Body - lost my mind for a minute
Can you please explain how to download the firmware update? Do i need something to open the bin file?
Your guitar looks more interesting
Cheers, thank you
