Written in 1953 in homage to his harmony teacher at the Paris Conservatoire, Jean Gallon, this piece shows off Duruflé's masterful ability to craft real emotion, even for a short technical exercise. This piece also shows off the beautiful 4' harmonic flute on the Great division, which is rarely heard as a solo stop. BWV 659, from Johann Sebastian Bach's monumental "Orgelbüchlein" is a chorale prelude based on the Advent hymn "Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland. by Martin Luther. Composed in the early 18th century, this intricate organ work reflects Bach's mastery, blending intricate counterpoint and expressive depth. One of my favorite hymns. Beautiful
Frankly, all of the hymns that Keith and Kristyn Getty write are fantastic! Unlike most current-day writing, their texts are far deeper and more profound. But this one (which included Stuart Townsend) is my very favorite by far.
