You're a moron. It's the fluid moving thru the valving
they work sideways as well, used em several times this way
Because of ball check valve is held down by gravity
Fail, that is literally the worst way.
My dad taught me this but it's drastically inferior to the roadie wrap. You need to learn it.
Will do
Thanks homeboy
You can't walk when you're upside down.
Wow. There’s 60 seconds I won’t get back (plus 10 for writing this comment) 😂
😂
My granddad never let me mess with his train either.
Nah it’s best to wrap the way a climber wraps a rope…fewer kinks and the cord lasts far longer
Oil all the wheels and axles, grease the gears, it will fly !
Maybe I missed it, but how come you didn’t connect up your tender to the steam locomotive?
The tender is missing a knuckle to hook it up.
@ Good reason! Just stumbled on your channel and saw all the chainsaw stuff in the background. Good stuff!
Can I come over to your place to play with those trains! We really had cool stuff to play with when I was a kid, too bad I so busy trying to "blow it up", like Gomez did on the "Addams Family". Wish the parents had bought two of everything back in the day, and kept one set hidden away, would have made the greatest Christmas for me years ago when I turned 50!
Haha, my childhood was similar. Thanks for watching!
i still have all of my model trains... i'm still restoring the post war lionel trains....love the hobby
Me too, my trains I have. Lionel, and a good mix of HO, I wish I could say the same about my G.I.Joes, Hot Wheels, army men, Tonka vehicles, ETC. !!!! But trains were always the go-to anyway. Still are. Enjoy.
More Trains!
You have to put the "Tender" that you have sitting on that short piece of track behind the locomotive. That is what the locomotive drawbar connects to, not a knuckle couple on one of the cars.
Just thought you might like to know the locomotive and caboose with the 1976 paint scheme also came with several box cars each one with the name of the original 13 colonies painted on them.If I'm not mistaken there were 13of them .I also had a non motorized crane that was attached to a railcar. The crane had the same black metal hand cranks that would raise and lower the boom while the other one would raise and lower the hook and ball attached to the boom. The crane car also came with a caboose slashhondola car . The caboose part molded in maroon was the same height as a full size one only smaller. The other. half was molded in grey shaped like a long bed on a pickup. When you wanted to move the crane to a particular place on your layout the crane would always be facing the rear boom lowered into the caboose bed. These two were always coupled together only until the crane was in place. I also noticed the smoke coming out of your locomotive. I had a marx engine that came with a green glass bottle of liquid smoke .As a kid I put way too much in the stack but it would always manage to make smoke rings once it got going. Also youight wanna put wheel bearing grease on yours motorized crane gears I don't think they should be that noisy .
Thanks for all of the information! Good pointers. Hope you enjoyed!
Very Nice : good you got to do what you wanted to do !!!
I see you like mac chain saws interested in some 940s ?
Heck yeah! As you can see, they have accumulated significantly quicker than i have fixed them, but I sleep well knowing they aren't going for scrap. Good American history.
Couple drops of some lamp oil in the boiler and the engine will start smoking again.
Neat thanks!
nice
The right hand transformer in the photo is an American Flyer model for "S" gauge trains
So I'm using the wrong unit? Does it make a difference?
@@rollinon - The American Flyer transformer will work fine for running Lionel locomotives. If you have a whistle tender, you will want to use the Lionel transformer since it has a whistle button. The Bicentennial diesel may have a horn that would also be activated by the whistle button on the Lionel transformer.
That engine is having a tough time pulling that train. Lubricate the wheels on the engine and cars with some 3in1 oil to start. If it still spins in place, try a product called bullfrog snot on the engine wheels to help get some traction.
Bullfrog Snot! What a product!
Hennings trains makes the smoke pills to put down the smoke stack. Get some and don't let it run dry.
Love the Steam!
Great video! Great models! Come see lucastrainverse!
don't run it too much without adding smoke oil ...I learned that the hard way
Good tip! Thanks for the heads up!
There is ample documentation on the internet to describe all of the items you have there and their proper operation. To save embarrassment, you should consult these documents and learn the proper operation before making videos. Lionel was the largest toy maker in the world for many years. There are so many wonderful facts you can absorb. For instance: you have not put the coal tender on your steam engine. The Scott Joplin music is a nice touch.
Cool Trains & Accessories! Welcome to the Wonderful World of Lionel Trains!
nice little set up.
I'm almost 67 yrs old, when I was maybe 4 or 5, I got a lionel train set for Christmas, your transformer sure brings back faint memories of that set!!
I remember those transformers. My father had the big one with the two large control handles..I still remember the smells of the transformer and sparks coming off the third rail!
The transformer you are using is an American flyer transformer, made by the A.C. Gilbert company of New Haven, CN. I use two of those on my American Flyer layout.
And sit the track on that livestock corral
You need to put that coal tender behind the loco. That’s why the loco has the tab drawbar instead of a knuckle coupler to mate the rest of the cars,
I dont think he knows what a tender is, or he would've put it behind the locomotive already! 😃
@@jamesdenny4734 thats probably why the fire went out and it ran out of steam.
Very cool.
There were 13 boxcars that went with the “Spirit of 76” engine. The boxcars represents the 13 original colonies in the order they joined the United States.
Interesting! Thanks for watching!
WHY IS THE BLACK TENDER SITTING ON THE TABLE? IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE BEHIND THE ENGINE. IT HAS A COUPLER IN THE BACK TO HOOK TO THE FIRST CAR. DON'T YOU KIDS KNOW ANYTHING????
My apologies sir! Lesson learned! I figured the engine wouldn't need coal going such a short distance.
@@rollinon L.O.L!!!
It's obvious he doesn't know what a tender is! 😮
@@rollinon That's a dumb answer!!!!
A freaking maizing....wow
Everyone's said plenty about the steam train but let me tell you about that red, white, and blue diesel and caboose combo. There were part of Lionel's "Spirit of '76" series produced during the bicentennial years of 1975 and 1976. They're good ones to have, worth money but not a fortune. If you want to run them it's OK to do so, just give them a good lube job and you'll be good to go. The complete bicententennial series (engine, caboose, and 13 state cars) was worth heavy money 25 years ago but averages $350 to $400 now, some times a bit less today. I got mine six years ago for $325. The "Spirit of '76" series was never sold as a complete set by the way. The engine and caboose were frequently sold as a package but the state cars were sold individually.
Very cool, thanks for the info!
@@rollinon You're welcome!
Those buildings called plasticville USA made by Gilbert, Bachmann bough the tooling and still makes them, the tooling is a bit worn though.
Neat!
Gilbert did not make Plasticville buildings. Gilbert did make the American Flyer transformer being used to run the train in this video.
@@MarkWick - You are right! The Plasticville buildings were Bachmann's first model train products. They started making the buildings that were sized to use with Lionel and Marx O gauge trains and American Flyer S gauge trains in the mid-1950s. Around 1960, Bachmann started making Plasticville buildings for HO scale trains.
of course it still runs.
A track is needed for the cattle car. You need to put the tender behind the loco. Otherwise you got it right. Have fun.
I dont think he knows what a tender is, or he would've put it behind the locomotive already! 🤔
People just don't know how much valuable Lionel Trains are anymore that is very sad i wish those people that are that careless about Lionel can at least think back to when they were a small child man or woman it doesn't matter 😪,8:00
I cried when you were putting on that new pulley on.
I cry when I watch that too.
Great vid. Makes me want to fire up the Layout. You should take apart that steamer. In particular the E-Unit that controls the Forward/ Neutral/ Reverse/ Neutral action. Really neat little mechanism. Top should come off with 2 or 3 screws. One under the front wheels and 1 in the cab.
If that's the typical 2-6-4 Post-War Lionel steam engine like my 2018 there's also a crossways pin through the shell that holds the motor assembly in place in addition to the screws. I wouldn't mess with the e-unit unless absolutely necessary. A quick spray with electrical contact cleaner is usually all that's needed. Don't try taking it apart, you'll almost need three hands to put it back together! Trust me!
Very nice, thank you for posting
That's a really nice thing to keep of your Granddads. There are plenty of videos and information out there to clean those wonderful postwar Lionels running like new if you decide to delve deeper into it. There are plenty of parts suppliers of both original and reproduction parts if need be. FYI the tender goes behind the locomotive.
What a beautiful set! Congrats and enjoy!
The post-war Prairie locomotive I have the #2018 that my dad bought when he came back from Korea, from around 1953 to 1956-7. You're missing the locomotive tender that feeds the locomotive with coal and water. A nice keeper 👍
Nice! You got a good amount of Lionel trains there, along with Lionel marx and Plasticville accessories! You did forget to add the tender to the steam locomotive
