Citric Acid for Pigeons to ward off bad bacteria
Some nice phenotypes there, the pied red looks the most intelligent compared to the other agitated ones. Don't you use the RP vaccine for young birds disease?
@Pigeonmaniacom Unfortunately, it was Adenovirus Type 2. Currently, the only vaccines offered are for Type 8 and Type 9, which affect poultry. I've spoken to a number of avian vets (here and in Belgium) on the subject, and none of them feel the current vaccine for Adeno (sold for poultry) has any effect on Type 1 or Type 2. Some fliers feel otherwise, but trials with the Type 8/9 vaccine on pigeons have not shown any positive effect. They're also unaware of any attempts to develop a Type 2 vaccine. As one vet put it, "the money isn't there". In otherwords, for the moment, there is no prevention or cure for the Type 2. I do know that Dr. Marx in his book, notes the possibility of a genetic component to Type 2 resistance and susceptibility. I agree with that possibility as the outbreak inflicted HUGE casualties on my Racers, but did very little to my Rollers. (It's worth adding that my Rollers have not been vaccinated for anything or had meds since 1994). Unfortunately, the RP vaccine is difficult to get in the States. There's a very limited supply of it and it seems you have to "know a guy, who knows a guy" to get it. If I had more time and a place to store quantity, there would probably be a pretty lucrative business opportunity in importing and selling the stuff in the U.S. in the meantime, I use the PMV and Salmonella combo on the Racers. I still don't vaccinate the Rollers.
🙋. I am thinkinking that you use the expised survivors as temporary pumpers for the unexposed birds. 🙏
@@HerbysHanz That's exactly the plan, actually.

@phoenixloftfarm5352 I've got a couple more off the pair almost ready for the young bird team.
Damn im so sorry about your birds..im sad ......Nice bunch ...
@vieshanblacksloft426 Yeah, Russell has good stuff. He's spent many years now studying under Joe Carrini and dominates local results. They also had a lot of OLR success this season. His pigeons tend to be very uniform in type and feather. It is what it is on my Adeno losses earlier this year. It did little to my Rollers, but pounded my Racers. All down to a purchased bird and breaking my own quarantine protocol. Costly mistake.
@kerbyjackson88 i caught that once and lost 12 birds my friend had it in his loft I went to visit and didn't know he lost 30
@vieshanblacksloft426 It's bad stuff. It didn't do much to my Rollers (lost a few per loft - maybe 10%), but the kill rate in most of my Racer lofts was 100%. My breeders on wire were completely unaffected.
Nice birds where did you get those water bottle feeder
@gl36 The pop bottle waterers come from Amazon. They are about 15 bucks per 20, so are really cheap. They work surprisingly well, but algae control is an issue. I keep a trash can full of bleach water to soak them in and swap the bottles out every time I need to refill waterers. That tends to keep the algae under control, but you need a lot of bottles!
Congratulation nice looking pigeons
Thanks

🙋. What about steaming? Or hot oil/wax brushing the wood? 🙏
@HerbysHanz Some people use hot ashes or a torch to sanitize the loft. I don't know if steam cleaning would be hot enough to completely destroy virus or not.
🌞. I give you a PHD on pigeons. 🙏
Congrats! 88th is nothing to sneeze about.. That's a good finish with a lot of birds.. The Hoosier has a bad habit of loosing many birds. It's quite ridiculous if you ask me.. After last year, I wasn't to impressed with the training methods nor the stupid decision that was made on the final big money race. The breeders pretty much got screwed over on that one. That's why I'll never send another bird there ever again. That said, good luck on the big finale.. Hopefully you can win a bigger pot of cash.
@ausfuhrpramienjagar Yes, I'm pretty happy with 88th and it's an improvement on 143rd last race. I still have three missing among the 1100+ that weren't back by evening. Something kind of tells me that something major went on this race and that a good number of the 1100 or so will not be back. As it is, even before this race, losses seemed pretty high. I probably won't do Hoosier next year. I accept the losses, but it seems like with 3000+ birds, if they can't get the first drop to trap immediately, next thing you know, there are 500 pigeons behind them. At that point, it's really whoever traps first opposed to whoever arrived first just because of the sheer size of the mob. That happened during the activation race where several drops refused to trap and almost 1000 birds trapped inside of a pretty short time frame because all the drops just continued to fly. At that point, it's pretty much luck of the trap. It strikes me that some of the smaller OLRs are probably delivering truer results just because the drops are smaller and there's not a 500 to 1000 pigeon mob behind the first few drops. In hindsight, I really should have done Martinez. Prize money is smaller on those smaller races, but it seems like the better pigeons have a much better chance of placing.
@@kerbyjackson88 .. It all comes down to the training methods of the owner, which I don't like.. The Hoosier birds are allowed to sit around in front of the loft whenever they get back from flying from a toss or loft flying.. That just gives them bad habits and not trapping quickly when returning is one of them.. And yes, the smaller OLR's are much more fun and personal.. The first place money on the final at the Martinez is $50,000 and $8,000 for 1st avg speed bird, so it's not that shabby. And, there is no perch fee either. Same with the Apple Cup.. Screw those big crap shoot money races with thousands of birds.. LOL
@ausfuhrpramienjagar I think another factor in this is that these losses coincided with a big enough geomagnetic storm to make the Northern Lights widely visible in the northern half of the Lower 48. They should be paying closer attention to it as I don't think 1100 birds going MIA is a coincidence. I'm still out 3 out of 5 birds, which are among the 700 still missing going into Day 3 from only 220 miles out.
@@kerbyjackson88 .. I'm sticking with the terrible training methods.. I don't think the borealis has any effect on the birds returning to the loft.. Last year when it was happening for a couple of days right in the middle of a race or two, they birds all came back fine with barely any losses.
@@ausfuhrpramienjagar What do you think are good smaller OLRs?
Good job.
@arvinarevalo8824 Thanks, Arvin.
Congratulations 👏🏼 and it was a slow start to the race earlier today and half ain't back is wild but congratulations to everyone that raced and hope all is well with the new loft build
Yeah, it's looking pretty wild so far. I'm hoping most of them manage to come back so there's still plenty on the last race.

Thanks for the information. Very nice looking birds!
Are they all whitesides and what colors do you have. I might be interested in a few pairs. Thank you
@smitchell2471 They are all either Recessive Reds or Recessive Yellows. Charlie aspired for perfect Whiteside markings, but found the trait difficult to control even after so many years of working on them. As a result, a number are Mottle marked instead of Whitesided and there is also a tendency for the amount of white to differ from one molt to the next. I will be happy to share them.
@smitchell2471 Originally, there were actually Black Badges and Blue Badges in the original Karp birds. The story goes that Les Manz kept the Reds and Yellows and Frank Sinclair kept the Blues and Blacks. The Sinclair birds now cease to exist.
You’re getting really good Breeders for next season 👌🏻🤞🏻
@@firebirdloft Yes, I really detest the loss of 98% of the Devriendts and Black Widows to the Adenovirus, but I've been really fortunate to get my hands on some very good stuff to replace them. I still have a few more coming in before breeding season, including some special ones.

They definitely are. Most of them are these Black or Blue Saddle Baldheads. A few Ash Reds and Grizzles. They can roll like hell if you can keep the hawks away from them long enough.

Kirby, I am so very careful now about who I get birds from, to the point where I am not really bringing in any new birds in my loft.
