Some more lockdown fun - and no I don't profess to be able to play the violin at all (and I haven't played the flute in ages) but what else can you do in these strange times?

I Bought Me a Cat Traditional I bought me a cat, my cat pleased me, I fed my cat under yonder tree. My cat says fiddle eye fee. I bought me a duck, my duck pleased me, I fed my duck under yonder tree. My duck says, “Quaa, quaa”, My cat says fiddle eye fee. I bought me a goose, my goose pleased me, I fed my goose under yonder tree. My goose says, “Quaw, quaw”, My duck says. . . I bought me a hen...

‘Tis the gift to be simple, ’tis the gift to be free ’tis the gift to come down where you ought to be And when we find ourselves in the place just right ‘Twill be in the valley of love and delight. When true simplicity is gained To bow and to bend we shan’t be ashamed To turn, turn will be our delight ‘Till by turning, turning we come round right. ‘Tis the gift to be simple, ’tis the gift to be...
Lennon and McCartney - Here, there and everywhere arr, Bill Thorpe
Просмотров 2994 года назад
It has been a while since I last played the violin, but it is amazing what lockdown makes you do, when you don't have real musicians to play with! I just think this is a really brilliant arrangement by Bill Thorpe of a fabulous Lennon and McCarney song.

From out my tears are springing Gay flowers in sweet scented throng, And from my sighing rises The nightingales' rare song. And if thou dost love me, dearest, All the flow'rs to thee I'll bring, And beneath thy lattice window, The nightingale shall sing. The rose and the lilly, the sun and the dove, I once worshipped them all in the glow of love I love them no more, my love is all giv'n To the ...

Dear Choir, This is a bit of fun for you - My take on A word on my ear by Flanders and Swann, with words changed for you. Really it needs Heather playing the piano for me, but maybe I will do it live for you when we reconvene if you wish. It is a bit tricky to play and sing at the same time!!!

    The tempo of this is a little fast, but the main difficulty is with the words "hey ding-a-ding-a-ding-a-ding, Sweet lovers love the spring!" - there's a breath after the "ding" and then a lot of consonants!!! Would you be able to re-record with a little break? ;-)

    • @jitsukerr
      @jitsukerr 2 года назад

      I thought the same, but have concluded that this is the right tempo, and so I take enough breath to get to take the whole of "hey ding-a-ding-a-ding, sweet lovers love the spring" in one, just giving a break in phrase after the last 'ding' rather than taking a breath and interrupting the momentum of the line.

    • @fschop
      @fschop Месяц назад

      I am missing musical feeling. The tempo (variantions) and dynamics do not flow with the music and/or the lyrics. There are no sentences, no resting points, no breathing, making it all very restless and seemingly too fast. Try singing in your head, breathing, while playing.

    Your hands lie open in the long fresh grass, - The finger-points look through like rosy blooms: Your eyes smile peace. The pasture gleams and glooms 'Neath billowing skies that scatter and amass. All round our nest, far as the eye can pass, Are golden kingcup fields with silver edge Where the cow-parsley skirts the hawthorn hedge. 'Tis visible silence, still as the hour glass. Deep in the sunsearched growths the dragon-fly Hangs like a blue thread loosened from the sky: - So this winged hour is dropt to us from above. Oh! clasp we to our hearts, for deathless dower, This close-companioned inarticulate hour When twofold silence was the song of love.

    Within the woodlands, flow’ry gladed, By the oak trees’ mossy moot, The shining grass blades, timber shaded, Now do quiver underfoot; And birds do whistle overhead, And water’s bubbling in its bed; And there for me, the apple tree Do lean down low in Linden Lea. When leaves, that lately were a-springing, Now do fade within the copse, And painted birds do hush their singing, Up upon the timber tops; And brown leaved fruit’s a-turning red, In cloudless sunshine overhead, With fruit for me, the apple tree Do lean down low in Linden Lea. Let other folk make money faster In the air of dark-room’d towns; I don’t dread a peevish master, Though no man may heed my frowns. I be free to go abroad, Or take again my homeward road To where, for me, the apple tree Do lean down low in Linden Lea.

    Lyrics: Heifer whines could be human cries Closer comes the screaming knife This beautiful creature must die This beautiful creature must die A death for no reason And death for no reason is murder And the flesh you so fancifully fry Is not succulent, tasty or kind It's death for no reason And death for no reason is murder And the calf that you carve with a smile Is murder And the turkey you festively slice Is murder Do you know how animals die? Kitchen aromas aren't very homely It's not "comforting", cheery or kind It's sizzling blood and the unholy stench Of murder It's not "natural", "normal" or kind The flesh you so fancifully fry The meat in your mouth As you savor the flavor Of murder No, no, no, it's murder No, no, no, it's murder Oh...and who hears when animals cry?
