Reminiscent of the early 410 handguns the Rossi Brawler Single Shot, Single Action 45LC & 410 firearm is fun to shoot. I just purchased this gun. This is my first look at the Brawler. See the ballistics as I take my first shots and Chronograph the results. This Rossi cost just over $200 and you might be able to find it for just under that. This gun is very accurate and has very little recoil.

These are my initial thoughts on the Taurus 44 Magnum 2.5 inch barrel revolver. This is a budget gun I purchased for 489.00 Brand new. Although the fit and finish are not up to the standards of brands like Smith and Wesson and Ruger revolvers, it is a very nice looking stainless steel gun that is very affordable.

    Wow! It appears to be a very soft recoil gun! Almost like a 22 lr. ! haha Now, seriously, i have a 8" raging bull in 44 mag. and I often use 240 grain bullets on it (from Magtech/CBC). Think it's a fun gun to shoot but even with a longer barrel it's kind of different animal. Normaly after 20 shots i'd prefer to use a normal gun in the range! haha Greetings from Brazil!

    The 500 S&W magnum X-frame can shoot 500 JRH aka 500 Short S&W Magnum and Buffalo Bore makes two loads for it with a 440 grain bullet. One load of 500 JRH at 1350 fps and another at 950 fps. Plus 500 S&W Special is available

    I use the cast bullet muzzle brake exclusively as it seals the upper porting and makes it closer to a true five inch barrel. And it shoots jacketed bullets as well so I don’t use the jacketed bullet only muzzle brake at all.

    • @BigBoreGuns
      @BigBoreGuns 10 дней назад

      Great tip, I have not done that. It would be a good test to see if there is a velocity increase using the other "Lead" brake without the porting. Also nice you not having to change out the break frequently.

    That is my model the 460V five inch muzzle brake equipped full lug barrel S&W X-frame revolver. Sent my cylinder to TK Custom and they made the cylinder fit their stainless steel moon clips. It was for shooting 45 ACP but the moon clips also hold 460 Rowland, 45 Super, 45 Detonics, and 45 Winchester magnum using Starline quality brass. A VERY versatile revolver.

    I have the 4" compensated barrel model of this revolver. I found that some of my reloads with the 429421 245 grain bullet would sometimes bind the cylinder because they were a bit too long for the short cylinder of this gun.The Model 69 S&W also has a short cylinder. I wonder if the Underwood ammo may have been a bit long. COAL for 44 Magnum is around 1.61 inches but many bullets result in a longer round, and most 44 Magnum revolvers will handle them, other than these two. I have shot full power loads with mine up to 300 grain bullets and the revolver handled them fine, but my hand didn't. This is my woods gun, and the ability to recover from recoil and fire again is as important as power, so I have settled on a 245 grain 429421 Keith bullet at 1150 FPS, crimped over the front band to keep it short for this cylinder. The only complaint I have is the side plate and crane screws sometimes work loose and need to be snugged up after each shooting session. A friends S&W 629 does the same thing, so this is not particular to Taurus.

    • @BigBoreGuns
      @BigBoreGuns 27 дней назад

      Thanks for replying. These Underwood rounds are not that long. I have fired them some more but have not had any more issues. I have heard that about the 629. That’s a good tip though and will keep me from accidentally buying the wrong rounds.

      @@dougharlow6037There were some regular Smith and Wesson 500 cartridges that were not magnum. They are sometimes called 500 shorts. Looks like it would break my wrist😂😂. Although I will say it is a fine firearm. Great video! I have two questions I hope you can answer. First I have the S&W 3.5" Performance Center 460 Mag. and with the 3.5" or 4" barrel models, is the gain twist rifeling still present? or only in the longer barreled models? Second what kind of accuracy did you have using the S&B 255gr 460 mag rounds??

    • @BigBoreGuns
      @BigBoreGuns 2 месяца назад

      Thank you for watching. The SB rounds were very accurate for me but I was shooting at only a max of 25 yards. Hadn’t had a chance to try it at longer ranges yet. I believe the gain twist rifling is not really limited to a specific barrel length, it’s a design that helps manage the 460mag model x-frame revolver cartridges. I am envious, really like the performance center model but don’t have one yet.

    Very nice! Decent power from the .44 Mags... Although admittedly the Taurus revolver cylinders do tend to loosen up after a bit (I've noticed this too).

    • @BigBoreGuns
      @BigBoreGuns 2 месяца назад

      Thanks for watching. Glad to hear I am not the only one that recognizes that. In your experience, is the loosing up ongoing or does it tend to just be a break in?

    • @carlosmorris4510
      @carlosmorris4510 2 месяца назад

      @@BigBoreGuns I think it's just a break-in... I have just over 1400 rounds through my .357 Mag Tracker - and it hasn't loosened up anymore. I've only about 450 rounds through my 2.5" .44 Mag snub nose Tracker though (more expensive to shoot) - but I've noticed the same thing... No more loosening up; it's just a break-in period. I've shot at least a few cylinder's worth of 305 grain HSM bear loads through it as well - just to test them out; no ill effects to it. But yeah, I think it's primarily a .44 Special - due to it's lightweight construction, and only a part-time .44 Mag revolver. It's decent for the money though. So I see it as a .44 Special for range practice, and a .44 Magnum for when you venture out into the woods... It's a budget brand - so obviously not as tight as a S&W or a Ruger - but still good for what you're paying for. It's concealability is a high point for it, I think.

    Holy cow! I haven't gotten through the video yet but you made shooting that handcannon look easy at the start. 50 rounds of .44 Mag in a Model 29 is PLENTY for me in one sitting - I couldn't imagine 60 rounds of .500 Mag! Just a guess, but I wonder if the very small gap between the cylinder and forcing cone is to minimize flame cutting and blast from the sides of the frame. Going to finish up now, but will say too that I like your presentation style!

    • @BigBoreGuns
      @BigBoreGuns 2 месяца назад

      Thanks for watching. The model 29 is one of my favorites, its a great gun. You don't hear about flame cutting much these days because the tolerances are so much tighter. Not having the correct gap could cause issues. There is still quite a bit of energy coming out the gap, even with the tight gap. It could take your finger off if you put it in front of the gap. 500 recoil is different its a lot more push and not the flip type recoil of the 29. What barrel length do you have on your 29?

    • @spartansfan1026
      @spartansfan1026 2 месяца назад

      @@BigBoreGuns Those are great points! I'm fairly inexperienced when it comes to revolvers. I only have that Model 29 (I took a look, it's a 6.5" 29-2) that was used by a great-uncle who enjoyed handgun hunting and a Colt Commando that my great-grandfather bought as surplus to use as a patrolman. You know, it is funny to think how certain guns behave to give you different kinds of felt recoil that might be unexpected. Just comparing their cylinder gaps to that of your S&W500 was what led me to that thought since obviously the .500 Mag is massively powerful, especially compared to .38 Special, so even with the small gap I imagine it's a ton of energy. Great video and discussion of the ammo too! I subscribed!
