Union Pacific Train Tracks High Sierra Nevada Snow Along Eastern Mountain Slopes
With snow flurries continuing to dust the eastern Sierra Nevada mountain range, this Union Pacific (MRVOG) manifest freight train works its way on the #1 track through Hirschdale, California on its way to Ogden, Utah. This train began its journey in Roseville, California earlier in the day. Hot on its tail but out of the picture is the Amtrak California Zephyr #6 just leaving Truckee. The railroad dispatcher’s hope is that this freight train makes it past the next stop in Reno, Nevada before Amtrak arrives so the tracks are clear for passengers at that stop and there's no delays.

Do they get on it for it or just around when for that? I just every time
We need some ariel shots of the rotaries
In the opening shot at about 15 seconds you can see the Sugar Bowl's gondola passing over the train exiting the tunnel.
Amazing
Amazing!
shame. much as here in the UK, there seems to be an assumption that once a rail line falls out of use it will absolutely never be needed again and furthermore as much of it as possible needs to be ripped up, demolished, sold off etc. as soon as possible; this has resulted in staggering new infrastructure costs when a new demand for rail service arises.
No plans to ever connect the two lines I assume?
Absolutely Amazing Shots... What equipment are you using for your Drone
Great video!
Well done! So which drone are you using? And for sound, what recorder? You got some great distance there!
Awesome! Another place on my bucket list!
Ever see when UP is using the rotary plow? Another awesome video!
Which drone are you using? I was just in the Caliente/Bealville area for a couple weeks at the tail end of 2020. Finally got some railfanning in California. I subscribed. Hope to see more of your work. Thanks for sharing!
WOW.... great video. I hate the snow but I love the snow scene.........................
I love the snow.
Nice to hear sound rather than some dopey music.
Great video!!
Up 5294 K3L horn
Fantastic footage!
Great video, nice and smooth on the sticks. You picked a most scenic location.
Great job!
What a beautiful shot! Thanks!
Excellent work and amazing job with the audio!
Really well done. Thank you!
Glad you liked it!
Excellent video and nice flying!
Thanks a lot!
Awesome video!
I saw 1408 on northbound train #500 on halloween this year. behind 1400
Cool!
Kinda wish they just ordered a new and fresh 1402 to replace the old 1402... (or they could renumber 1408 to 1402)
Good job dubbing the train and crossing warnings, forgot at first that this was drone footage! (Edit: this is the first video of yours I've seen, just found your channel, didn't mean to sound patronizing!)
Are they planning to construct a new railroad bridge?
Very nice scenery
Awesome footage!!
Thanks!
A shame... and the western terminus of the branch is only 400 feet from the CFNR!
Good work. For servicing a tractor-trailer truck and lowbed trailer(s) will be needed if the cars will need to be serviced by a contractor.
I'm a BNSF engineer out of Stockton, and this area looks much more interesting from above than it does from the cab. Nice work! This video will be interesting forever because it doesn't just showcase a train, it showcases the land at a particular point in time. What makes railroads really interesting isn't just the equipment, but the land it runs through and how it changes around the tracks over the years.
I live in North Highlands and got to catch a UP train hauling a few MARC SC-44s and SEPTA ACS-64s as they headed toward the east coast as I was driving my mother around one day a couple years ago. I wish I could have taken pictures.
Excellent work!
Incredible some shots in there. Really beautiful.
Christopher Carstens thanks! Be sure to subscribe. I have more videos on the way.
Awesome👍
Shame that this new unit will never get to lead a Talgo 6 Set in service...
great footage! Very smooth motions. Love the train
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
I just subscribed and plan on spending the afternoon watching all your videos. Awesome👍👍👍👍
So they purchase up to 9 units for Cascades service numbered 1400-1408
Nope, they purchased 8. 1402 was destroyed in the 501 wreck, and this is the replacement paid for by Amtrak.
That is probably one of the best drone shots of a train I’ve ever seen. Well done! I loved hearing the birds and the train horn. What type of drone do you use? Is the audio recording from the drone?
Thank you very Chris! I use a DJI Mavic 2 Pro and I record audio separately using a Zoom H1n portable digital audio recorder.
Excellent video!
Thank you! It was a fluke that I caught this. Heard the radio traffic from the dispatcher and though I'd see what was "special".
Awesome video, love the landscape! I just subscribed! Stay safe!
Fabulous!
Great flying! Is that grade crossing Dodds Rd?
J. Lewis El Capitan Way, Ballico, CA 95303 goo.gl/maps/h5ZqEvfr9ox7vYvH7
@@AerialTrainsandRailroads - That's actually Murphy rd which bisects Duffy siding, Dodds rd would be at the rear end of the grain train. This is the new Mormon parking spot ever since they completed the second main track between Wheat and Lake, and also extended Duffy siding long enough to hold trains. The grain train is likely empty and tied down there waiting for a Keddie bound crew to take it north. Fun fact: Duffy, along with Pittsburg and Sando are some of the new 50 mph sidings BNSF has been building in the area. Usually sidings are 40 mph in CTC.
Excellent video!
Very nice. The editing with the audio is well done and the drone flying is perfect.
Thanks! Mother Nature made it a good day to fly!
