আমি শহীদ ভাইয়ের সাথে একমত। বাবা-মা দু’জনের দিক থেকেই আমি বাঙাল বা বাংলাদেশী কিন্তু আমার পাঁচ খালার (মায়ের আপন বোন) ঘটি পরিবারে বিয়ে হয়েছে। এই সবগুলো পরিবারই পশ্চিমবঙ্গের শিক্ষিত/ অভিজাত/ অবস্থাপন্ন পরিবার। এই পরিবারগুলো দেশভাগের পর পূর্ব পাকিস্তানে এসে চাকরি, ব্যবসা-বাণিজ্য করে সেখানেও প্রচুর বিত্ত-বৈভবের অধিকারী হয়েছিলেন। ঢাকা শহরের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ এলাকাতে এই প্রত্যেকটি পরিবারের নিজস্ব এক বা একাধিক বাড়ি আছে অথবা একসময় ছিল। আমার কাছের বান্ধবীদের মধ্যে একজন ঘটি - ওর পরিবার বাংলাদেশের সবচাইতে বিত্তবান পরিবারগুলোর একটি। শহীদ ভাই হয়তো ঢাকার বলাকা-বিনাকা সিনেমা হল, চাঁদনী চক মার্কেট চিনবেন - এই প্রতিষ্ঠানগুলোর মালিক ওর পরিবার। তাদের আরও অন্যান্য ব্যবসাও আছে। ওভাবে তো মনে থাকেনা। এই মুহূর্তে মনে পড়ছে: নামকরা মানুষদের মধ্যে আছেন সঙ্গীতশিল্পী-সুরকার আব্বাসউদ্দীন আহমেদ এবং তাঁর সন্তানরা যারা নিজেরাও নিজ নিজ ক্ষেত্রে স্বনামধন্য - সঙ্গীতশিল্পী ফেরদৌসী রহমান, বাংলাদেশের প্রাক্তন প্রধান বিচারপতি মুস্তফা কামাল আব্বাসী এবং সঙ্গীতজ্ঞ মুস্তফা জামান আব্বাসী। এছাড়া বাংলাদেশের সর্বাধিক পঠিত জাতীয় দৈনিক "প্রথম আলো" এর সম্পাদক মতিউর রহমানের জন্মও কলকাতায়। বাংলাদেশের সিনেমার কিংবদন্তি 'নায়ক রাজ' রাজ্জাক এর জন্মস্থান কলকাতা। আমার এক সময় পশ্চিমবঙ্গের অনেক তরুণ প্রজন্মের ছেলে-মেয়েদের সঙ্গে বন্ধুত্ব ছিল - তাদেরকে আমি দেখেছি তারা তাদের বাঙাল অথবা ঘটি পরিচয় নিয়ে সচেতন। ঘটি ছেলেমেয়েরা সবাই জানে তাদের পূর্বপুরুষেরা পূর্ববঙ্গের কোন জেলা থেকে এসেছিল পশ্চিমবঙ্গে। কিন্তু বাংলাদেশের ঘটি পরিবারের তরুণ প্রজন্মের মধ্যে আমি এই বিষয়টি কখনই লক্ষ্য করিনি। আমার নিজেরই খালাতো ভাইবোন এতজন ঘটি কিন্তু তারা কখনও এই বিষয় নিয়ে কথা বলে না - তারা নিজেদের শুধু বাংলাদেশী মনে করে। এই পার্থক্যের কারণ আমার অজানা কিন্তু ছোটবেলা থেকে আমি এমনটিই দেখে এসেছি। বাংলাদেশে ঘটি-বাঙাল সেভাবে আলাদা করে দেখা হয়না, কোনো ঘটিকে আগ বাড়িয়ে জিজ্ঞেস না করলে আপনি বুঝতেও পারবেন না যে তার পূর্বপুরুষ পশ্চিমবঙ্গ থেকে এসেছিলেন এই দেশে। আমার মনে হয় পশ্চিমবঙ্গের এই শিক্ষিত/ অবস্থাপন্ন জনগোষ্ঠীটি খুব সফলভাবে পূর্ব পাকিস্তান বা বাংলাদেশের সমাজে মিশে যেতে পেরেছিল। এবং ইদানিংকার ছেলেমেয়েদের এই বিষয়ে তেমন জ্ঞানই নেই - যারা লেখাপড়া করে, ইতিহাসে আগ্রহ আছে তারাই হয়তো বিষয়টি নিয়ে অবগত। ঢাকাতে বাংলাভাষী ঘটি ছাড়াও ভারতের উত্তর প্রদেশের বেশ কিছু মুসলিম পরিবার আছে, কয়েক প্রজন্ম ধরে তারা বাংলাদেশে আছেন। এই পরিবারগুলো বাংলার বদল বাড়িতে বা নিজেদের মধ্যে হিন্দি বা উর্দুতে কথাবার্তা বলেন। এই পরিবারগুলো ধনবান-অভিজাত এবং তারা মূলত ব্যবসায়ী।

শুনলাম। প্রশ্ন এবং উত্তর দুইই তথ্যবহুল। এরূপ সময়োপযোগী দূর্লভ আলোচনা আমরা এই নেটের দুনিয়াতেও কম দেখতে পাই। কথাকলিদি ও সন্দীপদা তোমাদের এই আলোচনাটি খুবই মনগ্রাহী। আমার দুটি প্রশ্ন। প্রথম প্রশ্নটি, সত্যিই কি বাংলা ভাষা অবলুপ্তির পথে এগিয়ে যাচ্ছে না? আমাদের পরবর্তী প্রজন্ম অর্থবিদ্যার কারণে বিদেশী ভাষার শিক্ষায় শিক্ষিত হতে হচ্ছে। কারণ অর্থ উপার্জনের জন্য তাদের পশ্চিম দেশগুলিকে বেছে নিতে হচ্ছে। আজকাল বাংলাদেশ তথা পশ্চিমবঙ্গে ইংরেজী ভাষা শিক্ষাই একমাত্র শিক্ষা হয়ে দাঁড়িয়েছে। পরিবর্তে বাংলা শিক্ষা এতটাই নামমাত্র হয়ে গেছে যে তারা বাংলাতে কথা বলতেও জড়তা বোধ করে। বাংলা সাহিত্যচর্চা তো দূর দূরন্ত। এই নিয়ে তোমাদের আলোচনা আগামীতে শোনার অপেক্ষায় রইলাম। দ্বিতীয় প্রশ্ন, বাংলার উৎপত্তি নিয়ে যদি কিছু আলোচনা করো তাহলে খুবই ভাল লাগবে। তোমাদের দুজনের জন্য রইল অসংখ্য অভিনন্দন ও শুভেচ্ছা।
