Later Millennial here and while I did these things not quite as young, I did do these. This doesn't make us terrifying, it was fun and exciting. I didn't babysit tho because that's reserved for the girls...but I sure know my childhood wasn't pretected.

I lived for years in Turlock and had to deal with tule fog often. I must say this is an excllent video. Everything you said is right on. I would add a couple of things. When possible, drive on roads and take routes with which you are familiar. This way you'll know when you're getting close to an intersection/stop sign/traffic light and you can stop in time (then listen for traffic, like you said). Secondly, use the blue reflectors on the side of the highway to let you know when you're getting close to an exit. There will be 3 reflectors, then 2, then 1, then the exit.

LoL - bako is my hometown, but, I moved away to get more business - there's no cannabis businesses allowed up there. I worked on the Prop G campaign. When that prop lost and the BRAPS groups prop won, I pulled out. Oildale, crazy white people; east side, crazy eses. The Only two Nice areas of this place are the far west end of town; and, Lake Isabella (when the water level is high). But then again, "everybody knows" this. Oh, and the air Quality is the worst in the entire San Joaquin valley, that air is the worst in Bako...

I lived in Bakersfield for 32 years and finally escaped in '22 after retiring. The only positive about Bakersfield is that you're only 2 hours away from the beach, mountain and big city. Actually, another is that this is a red county. For those with health issues, think about this. Bakersfield is constantly ranked among the highest in air pollution due to the surrounding mountains that hold pollutants for weeks to months. If you can afford to live on the west side, then that's a plus. But remember that Bakersfield is known as meth capital of California.

I'm the last of the Gen X... I cooked at age 5 and almost burned the house but i effin learned, i babysat at 8, i walked by myself at 6, i used a firearm at 35( daddy was in Vietnam and refused to keep weapons in the house and I had a BAD temper), i been in 8 fist fights, i never cared about others opinions never talked about my feelings, i know 5 veterans, i walked and road my bike by myself at 7, i played outside my house until i started driving at 15.. I GOT CAUGHT ONCE on my 18th bday, we hot boxed my parents car at six flags magic mountain, I got away with 95 % of my dirt because I NEVER brought it home 😩🤣

We got away with more. Fake a report card. Sneak out. Buy liquor/cigarettes with no ID. Get in clubs at 17. We were aware of our kids' tricks because we were more free and less coddled and full of shenanigans.

Gen X here but I love the Boomers, they were the people I looked up to. I've grown to appreciate the Millennials though I don't quite understand the mindset. Gen Z is still coming into their own, I wish we could get them to unplug and enjoy the world. Gen X is a the bridge between the old times and the new times. Its great to have a foot in both.

Every year, there are 4 to 5 different publications that show best places to live in the U.S. and Bakersfield is never ever one of the top 100. Why? Because by anyone with an objective mind, will see Bakersfield is pretty undesirable. I've been to many cities , traveled Europe and Bakersfield just isn't nice.
