Австралия
Добавлен 2 май 2023
Come along with John, Kylie and Cookie the boat kitty, as we meander our way along the East Coast of Australia, on our 40 foot Clipper, Turtle .....
Yeppoon to Great Barrier Reef
We leave Yeppoon for the Great Barrier reef via Port Clinton and Middle Percy Island. We have some anchoring issues at the reef and have to leave due to worsening weather. The trip back to Scarfell island goes pear shaped when the engine stops and cannot be restarted !

You mention fuel costs. What motors do you run and what fuel per NM do you get?.
@@FrankWilmink-u6u we have 1x 6BT Cummins diesel. It uses just under 10 liters per hour at 1700rpm. That gives us about 7 knots SOG. Pretty happy with that. So about 1.3 liters per N Mile.
Looks yum, will definitely try. You vid’s are great, keep them coming 😊
Can't wait might see Yas next year 🤩
We’ll definitely be out there - somewhere ❤
Wow
Lucky on the drift .
@@Fwdking we sure were, we did keep in touch with Mackay VTS who kept an eye on us via AIS. They were very helpful.
Great watch, what app were you using when you showed the ipad and anchoring position ?
@@brentjs1979 we use "Anchor Watch " to monitor our drift around the anchor or where we are drifting with it!😂. It's a great security blanket and is very flexible, highly recommend it!👍
Ohhh myyy god how close a bit scary I would’ve have thought They are big do some damage lucky your ok 👌
That’s pretty wild 😮
Almost got you
Thanks for the video
Hi I’m just wondering how much fuel do you carry and also fresh water capacity and do you have a water maker thanks stay safe and happy boating cheers Barry from Victoria
@@barryedwards4481 morning Barry, we carry 1100 liters of fuel, however we refuel at about 300 liters, which gives us plenty of range. Water, we carry 1000 liters and that gives us roughly 3 weeks worth. The water maker is a contentious point and we are doing research now as it would be handy to have a long shower daily and use the washing machine more often. Given we plan to store the boat on a mooring long term is possibly the main pro to installing one as access to water will be restricted. Cheers.
Just started following your channel I love how you cook, I cook much the same and my husband started following you and said you cook like I do! Love your vids and travels
Hey Tracey! I’m glad you enjoyed the vid - I’m not terribly comfortable in front of the camera 🤦♀️….. I love that you cook in a similar way - I call it instinctive - pretty sure John calls it something not quite so flattering 😂 but these men of ours love the food we cook, so we’re doing something right ❤❤
I have to apologise to Spain for calling it paella really - as with everything I cook, I start with an idea and change to suit our taste…. It was delicious - John ate all the seafood and I loved the pork & calamari 😂 Turtle is a 14 metre Clipper Heritage motor cruiser. Beautiful long term cruiser. We probably spend about 6 months of a year on the boat and the rest in our home! Perfect balance 🎉 Thank you for watching & following… we try to have some fun and be a bit informative as well. Life’s too short to be too serious 😊
Well I just stumbled onto your paella a la barco. The whole process and on the boat looked terrific. Since this is my first hello to you, can you say something about where you're at? What is your 'Turtle' cruiser? Is this a short jaunt or lifelong aboard trip? Love to learn more. You guys sound nicely adjusted. lol And so how was the paella???? Cheers.
Great video skippers
Let them have the mack tuna they are not a good eating fish at all, 2 out of 5 stars, really only good for bait. Another wonderful vid by the way. Keen to get our small boat out to Musgrave some time. When the weather is kind its an awesome place.
@@nhr97 the mactuna lived to be caught another day!
That would be Great Keppel and not Kepple
Great setup! Always wondered, what sort of fuel usage when cruising ?
We get a fuel consumption of 10 liters per hour at 1600 RPM. That gives us between 6-7 knots.
I havent been there since 1991. Best two weeks of my life there.
Thanks for the videos. Great to see a single screw vessel getting out amongst it. For me I would like a bit more detail about the operation of your boat so I can keep learning. Things like the weather routing prior to a trip, lifting the dinghy with the crane, choice of dinghy and motor. The brand and use of flopper stoppers. Fuel consumption etc. Probably stuff you take for granted but for mooring minders like me it’s invaluable. Thanks again
@@ian1486 Ian, a couple have asked for similar information, I will try to address soon as we are planning a trip to the reef in coming weeks! Thanks for the feedback
Great Vid, What type and size of boat please😊
@@peterspencer2585 Turtle is a 40foot Clipper 2007 manufacture👍 it certainly suits our lifestyle and budget.
@JohnHayes-qs6ez I love the clipper (trawler) style we have a pocket size 28ft Roberts sea islander (cunard 28) on the Gippsland Lakes mates got a 42 ft marine trader. Great style, very safe, full walk around
Great videos. Keep them coming.
Girls , guys , he , she , shim . This is tricky nowadays, who can keep up with the new kids jargon. I hope to be cruising in a couple yrs , so that's how i found you folks , through youtube algorithm. Enjoy what i see . 🦘🇭🇲👍
Have you both been on a cruise before? Doing my fist cruise in July{Bris-Arlie} they facinate me too John 😊
It's beautiful at Fitzroy n Green Island in the FNQ 😊 enjoy your time at Fitzroy
Yummmmmm
Looks yum 😋
Too long John? Arrrr1
That guy murry I was anchored beside at peel at Xmas and a storm came through and we both had a sailing cat un attended dragging towards us , murry could see it was going to hit me and my chain was under it , murry moved over to let me go round the cat so I could Drag my chain out from under it , always wanted to thank him but never met him
I have passed on your comment to Murray, he remembers the night well! He has always been there when needed for me 👍
That’s pretty much what we burn , 18ltr an hour at 1500 but down to about 14.5 -15 at 1400 revs , we are pretty under propped but and can easily hit 2750rpm wot so engines are very lightly loaded , we swing into coochie on champagne cruise in a couple of months great little spot , thanks for the replies
Great video mate , can you please tell me your fuel burn at 1500 rpm , I dropped down to 1400 lately on the same Engines and have noticed a large decrease cheers
At 1500 we average 9.5 litres per hour and average 6.5 knots. Turtle came from Singapore at those figures, so have adopted the same , we are not in a hurry.👍
I really enjoy your videos guys , keep up the good work
Thank you, we are doing our best. Hope you keep enjoying as much as we do.👍
G'day mate,,,first episode for me,, this is something I'd live to do,,keep it up,,,cheers
It’s little wilson YOUR happy PILLOW IS UPSIDE DOWN
Yep thanks for sharing your vids cheers
The first two weeks of June have been quite nice in CQ on the water so keen to see where you get to. Great vid thanks again for posting.
Nice tidy oil change procedure there John. Really earned yourself the pie dinner by your lovely wife !
Lucky man, a boat and a beautiful wife who knows her way around kitchen. Happy days
Nice to see you back cruising.
Thank Brian, it's nice to be in our happy place again.👍
Your entry to Lady Musgrave brought back plenty of memories for us. We almost ended up on the reef there. Well worth the fright though to enjoy that amazing lagoon. Cheers R & K
Thanks for posting My wife and I have been having withdrawals from lack of vids lol. We love your on screen banter and your approach to life. My ideal cruising vessel as well something about going 6-8 knots and enjoying the journey. keen on the upcoming season. April was very poor boating weather lets hope this season is kind to all.
Last time I saw Coochiemudlo it was surrounded by mud flats at low tide. Hope you can find a safe mooring nearby. Gotta look after that beautiful vessel of yours.
Coochiemudlo is a great spot and we are enjoying it, the water is a bit shallow in places. We have an application in with MSQ for a mooring however it may take a while. Heading north at the end of the month so have a bit of time on our side. 👍
Hi Kay!! Nothing yet - but really looking forward to being back on the water in a few weeks 💙
Good to see your videos back. cheers Shane
Good to see you back, that can be a bad bar, a 52ft Nordhavn nearly flipped on it a few years ago, it got to around 72* + it got water into the engine room through the air vents which are up on the flybridge.
Hey nice to see you back on the water Hey Kylies what’s cooking
Missing you. Hope all is OK Cheers Lavina
What's happened with Cruising Turtle ? We haven't see you here for months ?
Look at you Kylie woman of many talents 😂
😂😂😂 funny girl Kay 😉
Great video seeing the entrance to LMI (and the rest). Haven’t been there yet, will have to go on our way north.
We're really enjoying your travels and look forward to each future posting. We also have a Clipper 40 Heritage (2005) in Sydney and find your boat very familiar when watching the videos. Can you tell me which Anchor Watch system you are using? Ditto for your StarLink system. Which version do you have, the basic or Maritime version? Where did you instal the antenna, presumably on the targa bar? Thanks for the great videos. Very envious of your travels
