Hi, I am just starting to learn about laser cutting with acrylics and I happened upon this video. Those glitter acrylics are really cool! I love at 4:55 in the video showing the black key nameplate. Can I ask if you know how to get the white letters on there as a smooth top surface without the UV printing? thanks so much, I can't wait to continue to learn about these products
Hi Janet! You have a few options when it comes to applying lettering. We used UV-LED printing for the black nameplate, which leaves a smooth top surface. Applying vinyl is another great option! You could also cut out letters from a separate sheet of plastic and attach them to the ColorHues Glitter sheet as appliqué, although this would result in raised lettering (not flat against the surface). This looks like an easy way to get the while lettering. Can I ask a question? Does the laser when it is engraving it, does it not go all the way through? Are the letters all cut out completely? It looked like no paint went through the letters onto your table. Does the laser not cut the letters all the way out? Thanks so much
I got the same question...
Hi Janet! Yes, the laser is set to an engraving depth of .003, which will remove the core plastic color and leave a clear area in the plastic to paint. Interesting tour. I'd be interested to find out why Rowmark and other manufactures don't produce thinner Acrylic sheets, for example in the range of 1mm to 1.5mm. (single ply PMMA in colors) I imagine Romark and other engraving stock is made from thin laminated acrylic? Thank you for the brief tour of your facility.
