    I was looking at your eBay listing of the German stone just the other day. Do you think it is similar to a yellow or green Thuringian? Regarding the mystery black stone... I've asked before... is there such a thing as a black "Thuringian"? Those that know, know that Thuringians are a form of slate, but utterly unique amd special. Dark to black slate is not usually associated with, or well suited for honing. I'm thinking of chalkboard quality slate. But I have read and seen a few discussions of rarer types of dark slate that are hone worthy. -Adamo

      I will try to answer your questions in order. German stone is the only one i have ever owned. Never seen second one . Not sure you know i have been collecting them for a long time. Now Eschers are dark blue, blue green. Light green , yellow green. Ferman stone will look like color light green escher. Stone is very fine it is fine finishing stone for straight razors. 2 nd q. In fact i have 3 black eschers ( 2 does have labels , 1 doesn’t) now i called black escher because of mu first dark escher stone with label. I coukd read German and some label on the stone. After 18 years later i had dark escher with label. Couldn’t believe at first i thought it is fake as label was protected heavily i thought someone did it intentionally to hide syone is genuine or not. Now i tested and stone was fine . Edge was very close to yellow green. Last stone without label i would call it thuringian. Will be better. I have dark thuringian stones which is finer yellow green escher. I own several of them.

    Hello, Which Japanese stone is better to have for razors in terms of hardness, 4, 4.5 or 5? And why?

    • @hibudgl100
      @hibudgl100 9 месяцев назад

      Hardness has a meaning for knifes more compare straight razors. If you are using gor knifes definitely buy 5, Now if you are going to use for straight razors than you need to count in how fine stone is.your 4 fine jnat will do as great job as 5 hard stone. I usually test them seller should tell you it is fine for straight razors.

    Buddy, I tried.. I was trying with custom knives, cheaper knives you name it.. I mostly use S90V or S30V (benchmades). The problem, was sharpening.. I could get them sharp enough to cut, but no where close to what I can get with a Wicked Edge.. 4-5 years ago I bought the wicked edge sharpening system, I haven’t looked back. I don’t work for them, not sponsored by them.. If you enjoy knives, spend a lot of $ on quality knives, and have tried 🙄 without any real success. Wicked edge. Best sharpening system I’ve found. I bought the 120, wish I had bought the 130 for the vise system it has. Oh well. I then bought more stones and strops over the years. Absolutely love it! I would be curious, for fun, to put a knife I’ve sharpened with wicked edge, against an old timer that can actually sharpen by hand using those. See who has a better edge.

    • @hibudgl100
      @hibudgl100 9 месяцев назад

      Of course if you in the USA we can exchange edges. Remember i m razor guy my edges way finer than any knife you have tried. Knife edges usually ends around 6-8 k razor goes behind 20k

    • @hibudgl100

      @@garyhaywood6013 Gary all 3 razors are my test razors.,All 3 were shave ready. To kill the current edge i used 1 k chosera and i brought the edge to 1k. Now i could use couple different grit stones and bring the edge around 8 k and finish with testing stone current stone was WOA. To save time i used very fine jnat but with good cutting power and brought the edge around 6-8 k level( I didn’t stay on jnat longer as i didn’t want to jnat edge) after that i taped the edge to make sure i will have WOA edge as a final edge. Taping edge basically took any error out i could make on honing. Lets say not to have final edge jnat edge.this is easiest way to get job done. I know lazy way but i hone a lot.hope this answer your question.
