    Yeah I didn't really click on this to just watch some people skating around. I could have picked any skating rink and seen numerous people skating around a rink. What I really clicked on this link to see was the bottom of the lake. I would have preferred to see 6 minutes covering the various depths and bottom contours...Damn.

    I have climbed Haleakala 4 1/2 times in my life.......(the 1/2 time was when I stopped @ 5,000 elevation and said, "f*ck it.....I am on vacation and I am going back to have a drink"!!). There is no climb like it in the world. I suffered 2 of my 3 efforts, but once, luck was with me and I felt good the entire ride. I remember seeing that sign that says, "1 mile" left to go, and this incredible wave of joy overcame me. But the last 1/4 mile up the ramp to the observatory is absolute HELL!!!! Legs are gone........no oxygen @ 9,950' elevation, and you see the 10% grade ahead of you. But at that point, you say, "I don't care WHAT it takes.......I am not quitting now!!". Then you get to the top and and it is FREEZING cold! Then you head down the hill...........for the first 10 minutes @ 45 mph, I was freezing *ss cold!!!! But I passed a few rs on the way down, overcooked a turn or two (thankfully, no cars going the other way!!!), and I was at the bottom DYING for some food!!! Congratulations, mi amigo!!!! Welcome to the club of crazies who do the deed. We never will forget the effort!!!

    I really loved cycling around Taiwan in 2019. I’ve been wanting to go cycle Korea, but then part of me also sort of wants to just go back to Taiwan. The mountain passes there are pretty epic. I’m curious which country you found more enjoyable to cycle in regard to friendly / helpful people and more exciting riding? Whenever I see videos of cycling Korea it looks a little bit bland, but it also looks very very safe with all the paths. But it’s always hard to tell by looking at a video.

    Rode around Taiwan for a week in September 2014. At that time you could rent a Giant in one city and return it in another city. Not sure if that's still true. Had trouble getting a bike big enough for me (6-1) though.

    Love coming across videos of this, reliving the experience. For me it was the hardest ride I've done, but also gave the biggest reward with the views (especially on the descent) and sense of accomplishment (being able see what you've just done and even riding up/down through the clouds). Hawaii has two of my biggest "athletic" accomplishments. this ride, and 70.3 Hawaii (my first 70.3). No speed/course records were even in danger in either :)

    • @CyclingAlaska
      @CyclingAlaska 3 месяца назад

      Totally agree! This is a big effort, big reward ride! Although the mellow gradient makes it probably the 'easiest' massive climb out there. Although I was definitely struggling in the highest elevation. Congrats on 70.3 finish! Thanks for watching.

Was so nice, But I was embarrassed that I couldn't finish it. Doing so I wouldn't be able to cycle to my next stop. I went backwards from Seoul to Busan. • @CyclingAlaska

      I took took the bus back from Busan to Seoul. There is storage underneath the bus and you can put your bike there. There were very few people on the bus so the storage space was empty. I wanted to take the train but when my (Korean) wife did research, she found that either recently bikes were not being aloud on trains of they had to be broken down and put in a bag/box during transit. Are you bringing a bike from home or renting in Seoul?

    • @CyclingAlaska
      @CyclingAlaska 11 месяцев назад

      Hard to say exactly, every year is slightly different. Rabbit Lake is in the alpine area above 2,000 ft, so it thaws later than the lakes in Anchorage. I would expect by the beginning of June you would see some water (and some ice still possibly).
