The Great Country Music Debate "What Is Country Music?" ParkwayStudios.com.au
In this video Mick Lockhart from Parkway Studios talks about the heated on-going Country Music Debate. Is it country or isn't it?
What is Country Music nowadays, is it straw hats, chewing tobacco or is it banjo's and rednecks drinking beer?
Should we really need to worry about the branding or label that's being put on it or, should we just embrace that it's all Country Music and in all it's glory, Country Music as an industry is now bigger then it has ever been in history.
What opinion should you have on it and where should you voice it?
Thanks for watching and please leave your comments below if you'd like to talk about any part of this video!

How does the capsules CK1 compare with the older but compatible CK28.
What about for a jazz vocalist? With the grid cover?
I sing on one a lot and love it. It allows me to sing easier than any mic I’ve sang on.
Awesome stuff! I just picked up 4x KM85 Neumanns today! If anyone want to swap 2x capsules- let me know! 😎
what is a km84 worth now?
Here is a link to a picture on the internet comparing the exterior capsules of the CK1 vs the CK2 exterior. We have these at the CRC. Im excited to try them!
The CK2 is omni.. (thats why the capsule is different)
Hello - My name is Michael McGee and I have a solution for the black Sennheiser MD421 clip arm problem. It is called micLock and I just received the patent and it is a 3D printed piece. I will be selling them in pairs, because i have talked and worked with so many great engineers over the years( I am a professional drummer for 40 yrs) that most engineers/musicians have 2 or more. I would like to send you a sample to try out, and if you like it and it solves this problem for you it would be great for you to help promote it. Thx, Best, Michael McGee micLock 415-307-5654
I have one of the original 84’s in great working condition. Does anyone know how to secure the XLR and capsule from coming out of the cylinder ? I am wanting to sell it , but before I do , I want the XLR to be solid. Let me know please and I may sell it to you. This mic has one tiny tiny dent on the side but this in no way affects the performance
Did you sell yet?
Used one of these on-air in the late 80’s as a radio announcer on an AM station. For voice they really need a pop filter. These mics catch plosives very badly.
Where can I get an opr87?
can't even hear the video. Why the FUCK would you want your advice....LOL
I've had mine since 1987 and paid $400 back then great mic for my sax.Check out twisting the jug on my channel and hear it in action.Cheers
Good news for you...the clip has been remodel and fixed>>Here is the fix: ruclips.net/video/PSGdyFze8HQ/видео.html Here's a better fix that cost nothing and you can fit the problem on the spot: ruclips.net/video/yI17o7VoKp4/видео.html cheers my friend
whats the difference between the 451eb and the 451e ck3
I need recording studio for myself mike black
Thanks I've added your studio tour to musicstudios.co.nz/gear-tv
+Aaron Liddell g'day Aaron! I'm so sorry for the late reply, I didn't get the notifier thing :)... I would def get the MD421's to start as they do so much in a studio (Vocals, Guitars and Drums of course - any drum actually)... get to using the roll of switch and you have a lot of versatility and they can handle some damage and being thrown around... I can't rate them high enough and we use them on nearly every job we do! There is a company called OPR who do amazing clone microphones - you could def check his stuff out (Mark is in Sydney) as well - I have a few of his mics (U87 and the KM84 and the 121 Ribbons) I have the real ones of all these mics and they are so close it's just ridiculous! I hope this helps you out a bit!
Crazy that this and the md421 are 2 of your 3 reviews bc these are the 2 choices I am trying to decide upon. I made some mistakes buying mics. This is my locker: SM-57 - 5 (1 grannelli) SM-58 - 2 SM- 81 AKG C414 Audio Technica AT 3050 -2 Audio Technica AE 2500 Dual Element kick drum mic AT D112 Cascade Fathead Ribbon Stereo Matched Pair JZ Black Hole BH-3 Sennheisser e604 (bad recommendation from a friend, probably use them live on my toms) Samson CO2 pencil condenser (again bad recommendation early on but I have actually used them live and they are surprisingly ok) Blue Encore So I know I need 3 MD421 and a Stereo matched pair of 451 but I can't afford it. I'm still building and I have lapped the budget so many times it is just a vague memory. So if you could get a stereo matched pair of the 451 B not EB for a grand with the case, the bar, screen, all that good stuff, or 3 421's for about the same price which way would u go. I'm thinking I can always throw 57's on the toms and maybe the d112 on the floor, I have that dual element and actually i made my own subkick, as well. Seems to me I am completely lacking in the small condenser area anyway, but something is pulling me towards those MD 421's (maybe it's cuz I'm a drummer, idk) Anyway like the channel, great info. Any other recommendations I would love to hear what you think. I couldn't pass up that black hole, they had it listed for 600 bucks, I knew they knew it was broke, but I knew I would get them to give me a replacement. Not the same mic just repaired. It took 2 months but that's what happened. So I basically got that for lhalf price. Probably should sell it and make 400 -500 and get 3 451's, and the stereo matched pair of 421's huh?? Shiite man I need an E-brake!!! Hahah. Thanks in advance.
Hi Mick, thanks for the video. I just came across this solution today. Check it out! www.wilkinsonaudio.com/product/md421-clip/ I will buy one and use it with Rycote InVision. It is the most stable clip available. Cheers Dirk
been to a lot of studios , and all I want to start a home studio myself. i see the switches/sockets are really down to the floor. Is it optional or a must ?
+JhayShawn Which switches and sockets are you talking about mate?
***** sockets to put in power input to the keyboards n mixers
+JhayShawn for the keyboards, we're just running DI's into our patchbay - all the wiring is hard wired behind the console and at the back of the patchbay (it just saves us going behind the board to do stuff).
thanks for the information. I hear that Michael Joly makes a pretty good clone of the 84.
+Carlitos Padilla - there are some fairly decent clones being made today, but putting them beside the real ones you can hear the differences - but the clones are still amazing for the price point!
Great stuff Mick. Willie Nelson crossed over from jazz. That's what gives him his unique phrasing.
+Freddy Bowen yeah mate, at the end of the day it's all about great music I say...!
Well said :) if it's getting more on board, reaching the larger audience and giving country music a louder voice it is to be embraced. Music in all its forms tells our stories, country music not only tells the story but gives it heart and soul :) no matter who is telling it.
All that matters is we as a whole industry are growing bigger and performances are getting better! It's a win win all round I think! :)
Couldn't have heard it any clearer mick , whether your a soloist or full band wanting to make it anywhere in the industry, everyone, including myself , should take a page out of this . thank you for the knowledge and advice all of which I have taken on board and for the much needed direction, also I have to agree even being an artist, their is nothing more frustrating than hearing someone perform with no heart and soul , just 'going through the motions' , it all comes down to one thing , you get what you give , and if you put in the extra yards and you try hard enough you can reap the rewards of a good quality product. your video is spot on keep up the good work and thankyou .
Hey Sean, I'm glad you found it useful mate - all I ever want is for people to be the best they can be! Everyone wins from that :)
Great video Mick! All valuable bits of information for any inspiring artist! I like your 'goal list' approach. That is definitely something every artist should continually do!
+jasonficheramusic thanks mate - a lot of people don't realise the amount of work it actually takes an independent artist - one day at a time and one step at a time is the way to stay focused and progress!
So how do you use your headphones in your control room when the control room are in a total different rooms?
The whole CD is a class act and the "cover" is beautiful. My favourite song is Me and The Radio...You, Me Love comes in a close second. Congratulations to everyone, especially Rebecca and best of luck with it.
Hey Brother great stuff. I can't sing your praises enough. An amazing studio and even more amazing musos have helped me make the best album I have made in my career. Im so proud that Stories Through Time was the first album out of this unbelievable studio. With the first single a national number 1 and now the second single tearing up the charts why would any artist anywhere, contemplate recording anywhere but Parkway Studios. You can hear the amazing sounds right here on youtube folks check out my clip for Fluoro Collar, you will surely book your next session as soon as your hear what Mick and the team can do. ruclips.net/video/HVWAbNmY_vY/видео.html
