It's the vvt valve, it wears out over time, begins to malfunction. Which causes the engine to have a higher fuel consumption, lack of power and that annoying noise

@@CameronDoesCars if this dont work i think you need remove gearbox and i dont know does the push from drainplug and sucking out dipstick works but i think its better try first before remove gearbox

I really loved mine v70 with this transmission! Now im also have an xc70 but is has a 6speed. The manual mode is anbeatable.
Tested it out today. Its very loud and powerfull but thats the only advantage. Sound quality is kinda bad for this price, lack of soundstage, and very artificial sounding surround audio. There is something off in terms of tone
But car is nice
If you test it, try testing it through the USB and with a FLAC file song. Then you will hear it’s a very high quality sound system.

That noise could be a number of things, I would look into it before diagnosing it as the steering rack as that is a more expensive part than other possibilities
Confirmed to be a rack. It’s a service bulletin for replacement from Honda.
