The clue is in the word ethical. There is nothing ethical about it. There is nothing not ethical about it.The word explains nothing, but does tell us that those that came up with this term had some doubts as to the ethics of this, and thought they could get rid of it in the title. It's quite freudian. Dress it up as you want, but it's as old as the hills, and it never works. Ever. Sure, go 10 years in your 20's and 30's, and write an article about it. But they fall apart soon after, and someone ends up on anti depressants. These people confuse relationships and sex. Nobody means anything to anybody, unless they have to sacrifice something, and that is what defines commitment. Otherwise, you're just friends with benefits.You don't really mean that much to each other, and that's fine. It's great for solipsistic people. It really is. But they seem to want to have their cake and eat it too. They want the open relationship, but they also want society to endorse it all for them, and to approve of it from an ethical standpoint. We don't, as nothing has been sacrificed for it to be ethical, or not. It mainly shows us that they themselves are not that comfortable with it all, and need your approval.

I’m very big at supporting & flat out evangelizing sex positivity & I do agree with much of what she says but I do not really agree with this wishy-washy way of defining the terms. Non monogamy is to me about having multiple sexual partners & though it is NOT necessarily about being promiscuous ‘for that has to do with being irresponsibly indiscriminate about choosing lovers, insensitive to others, & of course simply excess’ I do not live in a fantasy world that you can ‘identify as being non monogamous’ and not actually at least attend to practice it. I’m saying this as a strong supporter of open relationships, but lets face it.., true commitment is more than just ‘lets just stay together long enough until we both feel like we are getting something out of it’

You're talking about polygamy but are avoiding using the word/term "Polygamy". "Ethical non-monogamy" is an unnecessary mouthful of sounds. What's the point? You want valid justification for ethical polygamy? Read the Christian Bible! It's full of examples and even laws regulating the conduct of men who have more than one wife. Christian polygamy is not the same as the Mormon version!
