That is very much similar to the hollow body precision bass that fender came out with back the early 80s,but they were made in japan and are very hard to come by.
As your dad will attest, he and I grew together, ran a fair amount of races as “cross country stars” and recorded some fine cassette demos that seem to hold on their own even today. Please relay to him that he does fine work.
