My uncle has like 10 of them he loves xt500 but they scare the hell out of me I’m not sure why because I been on so many road bikes from Honda cbr 1000 to bmw’s to Kawasaki ninja’s but the xt500 I’d never get on it for a ride

What sucks for my bike is i cant get it started with decompression lever held down. People who have never tried to start a 500 with kick start should not even comment. The amount of compression on a 500 compared to a 250 is not even close. My buddy broke his foot trying to kick start a yamaha 500

Back in 1983 I bought a GS450 and in 1985 a XT250 and both gave me good service
