The Biggest MISTAKE ..when thinking about RETIREMENT
When I'm on holiday, I often think about Retirement.... but that can be a BIG mistake ....here's why ....
This video challenges the common misconception of retirement being an extended vacation.
I argue that idealized visions of retirement, fueled by sunny holidays and leisure activities, are unrealistic. While retirement can be a positive change, it's important to consider the realities of no longer working full-time.
Here are some key points covered in the video:
Retirement is not a holiday: The video distinguishes between the temporary pleasure of a vacation and the long-term realities of retirement. Vacations provide a break from routine, whereas retirement is a permanent shift in lifesty...

    We can't wait to get to retirement!

  • @elitestarquake3597
    @elitestarquake3597 21 день назад

    I turn fifty tomorrow. I have been dreading it for weeks and have told my family I don’t want to celebrate it at all, which my young sons find unsettling and baffling. This advice seems sound but here’s the problem: I *hate* physical exercise. I’ve never had that “endorphin rush” that exercise enthusiasts preach about. I just feel tired and sore after exercising and have never found any real benefit, so it’s virtually impossible for me to ever want to exercise. I’ve lived with depression since my teens and it has ravaged my health generally and caused a few careers to stall, eventually leading to me having to take retirement on medical grounds when I was only forty-five. Some might think they’d love to be retired so young but it’s no picnic being told you’ll never work again. I also have sleep problems and am carrying a painful ankle and foot injury. So, I feel useless, depressed, pessimistic, a failure to my family (especially my sons as I am a poor role model), tired and in pain. I feel worn out and weary, more like I’m eighty. I don’t see anything to celebrate about turning fifty. But that’s just me.

      Things sound tough. In terms of exercise - just going for a walk is enough sometimes... I've started going for a daily walk. It also gives me time to clear my mind and think things through. Even if it is a short walk ... it is a start. I hope you find a way through things...

    For many of us, a decision to retire early is to quit at the peak of our earning years. It’s the worst financial decision one can make. However, money, or more of it, cannot buy health, time or happiness, which I believe is your point. That is exactly why I retired last year at 60. I had too many things (hobbies, travel, spending more time with family, staying healthy!) I wanted to do with the rest of my life. To be able to realize them is my definition of happiness. Also, don’t underestimate work stress and what that does to one’s health. As someone on the internet once said, “Working longer has the dual benefit of greater savings and shortened lifespan, ensuring that one never runs out of money.”

    My parents often talked of all the things they wanted to do in retirement. They retired promptly at 65 and had two decent years before health issues became a large issue in their lives. 4 days before her 73rd birthday, my mother died; three months later my mother in law (@72) died; two years later my father died. They spent their lives looking to an imaginary future that did not transpire. My spouse and I have decided not to wait until normal retirement age to enjoy 'retirement'. We're in our early 50s are currently on an 8 to 12 month career break to do a small bit of travelling and focussing on ourselves and trying to decide if we want to go back to work full time next year. As each day passes where we don't wake to the sound of an alarm clock makes going back to FT work less and less likely.

  • @johnmason2181
    @johnmason2181 22 дня назад

    There's no general answer to this as we're all different so don't make any decisions biased on what other people suggest. Part time works for most people but it's always about money. If you can't afford to go part time, you need to continue working, that's the only consideration.

    I’m 52 and hoping to retire and pull my teachers pension at 55. The numbers are ok and should give me enough to live on (and pay my bills) without having to work. I think it’s the way to go - I’d rather have the freedom and hopefully gain the go years than wait for the magical 60 number which would give me the full pension.

    • @level50lifestyle
      @level50lifestyle 22 дня назад

      Once you start thinking of the TIME and HEALTH element - it can really change your perspective. If you plan a head, there's still opportunity to get your numbers up at 55 by adding or paying extra into your pension or saving a little extra. Every little bit helps..👍🏾

    Did your wife suddenly leave you for her professional councillor? Did she suddenly cut you off from your joint home business income? Did she try and push a business debt of thousands into your lap? Did she leave you lost at sea with nowhere to go other than your elderly parents? Did she leave you with severe grief and mental health issues? Did she accuse you of all sorts of previous (lies) with the Police? All in a bid to stop you from receiving a decent business settlement and half the house sale racking up £££s in Solicitor's fees. If so, maybe when you do eventually meet someone else and get your life back together, you too can make a smug video like this also? I know I will.

    I have watched a few videos like these, and this is definitely one that makes the most sense. My first relationship lasted 28 years. Literally someone i was at school with, first kiss etc. That relationship ended when i was 45. I had then, joint care of a 4 year old child. I had numerous relationships after that in the next ten years, to now. I was rarely single. Then suddenly 2 years ago, a 4 year relationship ended, and i just stopped everything. I was miserable always being single, but i was for 2 years. In the last few months i have realised being single is ok. Most importantly, its made me more fussy. I remember how miserable it can be, being with the wrong person. That break was so important. Now i can imagine being with someone again, but only if they are better than my current life which is good

      Glad it resonated. We don't always make the best decisions when in an emotional state, so a period of self discovery after the dust has settled can help build the foundation for the rest of your life, whether that's single or in another relationship. It's a cliche, but you gotta learn to love yourself again. 👍

    Good to hear a Brit's perspective (Ozzie accent?) rather than the usual American's critique. I'm older than you and after quite a few relationships and a marriage over those years, my overall assessment says I'll never go back. My last one was a platonic friend whom I secretly loved, 35 years ago. When we met again 9 years ago, she leapt on me, expressed "undying love" but couldn't move in yet for practical reasons. As an artist she was trying hard to step up into 'fine art' recognition. Meanwhile, I'm building my land up and relearning my own dormant art skills after years with no facilities to practice in. After a number of attempts, she eventually got voted into a very well known British fine art academy, especially by male artist members (her admission...she's very pretty for her age and flirty). Next thing I know she's hooked up with one of those artists (hypergamy?) and left, claiming she can't live like me and that I "don't appreciate fine art". That was after 5 years of being together albeit often miles apart. That women so easily flip when opportunities arise, has informed me that all women are on the lookout to step upwards to another, until their advancing age forces them to take what they've got. It's inbuilt, irrefutable and historically proven, especially nowadays. Being single has given me the space to become my best self, more than relationships ever have. I think our culture is fkd, and by design. Whoever decided to ruin us, knew that women are the weakest link, manipulated their psychology, and it's succeeding spectacularly.

    You sound a bit like me 4 years ago. Prostate issues, unfulfilled at work, and not enough time for myself. I first set a goal to retire at June-end, 2023 in my 60th year. To reinforce this, I gave my boss 2 years advance notice. I then went about single-mindedly preparing for retirement. First step was eliminating all debt, so I went crazy aggressive paying down the car loan and the mortgage, and saving $$$. I also began to take better care of my health, adopted the KETO diet, and dropped 19% of my body weight. At work, I worked just as hard as ever to finish with a flourish and make a statement to the company. It caused my boss to give me a promotion with 6 months to go in the hope that I would continue. It felt so good to have enough FU money to be able to firmly say NO! It's been almost a year, but I have zero regrets about retiring. I now do what I want, when I want, as I please, and couldn't be more content with life. And that's because I still have my health. So don't wait too long because age catches up with all of us!

I think very differently now than I did when I was younger and with age comes experience and dare I say it, a bit of wisdom. I´ve never been happier than I am right now. Sometimes I can´t help thinking I´d like to go back in time, but knowing what I know now. Probably would things a bit differently the second time around, but then again, it´s no use having regrets and I for one am looking forward to growing old. Thanks for sharing!
