This happened to me. I found an alternative and simpler way accidentally- plug your battery on charging cradle and keep the red fuel button pressed for about 20-30 sec. It should start to charge on it own. Alternatively, you have to take it out and place it back on. Tried on two of my batteries flashing red and it worked!!!

Thanks for the video and hack. I had a 5Ah stop working altogether -- no lights at all -- after 2.5 years and EGO customer service sent me a new one. What I've learned since is (1) don't leave on charger after charging or on a device when not in use (2) store for extended intervals by itself 60 - 80°F (3) do not store fully charged for extended intervals. So I'm hoping if I follow these guidelines, the new one will last more than 2.5 years. Thanks again for sharing your experience.

$429.00 for a new battery every three years is an absolute waste. EGO is not the best option for a lawn mower or any power tool really.

I did this for a battery that was actually fully charged, but yet indicated "low battery" when attempting to use it. Sure enough after so many tries...it actually started to work in the leaf blower. I ran it down and recharged it. We'll see if and when it happens again.

you should not have to go threw this ego batteries are very expensive They must not be any good. Ihave a 7.5 amp stop charging I am not going to spend 350 dollars on another one only 3 years old I love the tools but not the batteries. To bad.

I had a battery that would show one bar on the charger , then go to full immediately. I found a reset for the battery where you hold the button in and it starts blinking for a few seconds then turns solid green again. I had to try it few times and put it on the charger a few times after, but it eventually started charging. I also try to cycle my batteries and make sure they get used at least once a month and recharged. The capacity seems better if they are used frequently. Ego batteries will self discharge after a certain period of time to around 30% to lengthen the life

Just bang the battery onto a hard surface (preferably the ground) 10 - 12 times and put it ok the charger, voilà

I have a smaller battery for the trimmer and when you press the button on the battery, it flashes red for about 10 second, put is on the charger and it is 100% and it does not work. what should I do?

Good grief, at $450 bucks, you would think they could do better. I love my mower, but I am discusted with this battery issue and price. Have to give this a try.

or you could just have a gas powered lawnmower not have a battery problem

You are right this helped. I put it on the charger a few times and i also plugged it up while on the charger and finally got it to start charging. I got my mower back in 2014 and it’s been going strong. I’m going to make sure i charge it right away for now on.

Store them like potatoes. Cool dry location. The battery charge controller is not a sophisticated as a car's but works in the same principle. Keep it cool before trying to charge or it will close the connection to keep from overheating.

Aww bullshit. Maybe it worked for you and who cares. Recharging and switching to pluging in back in the mower, blower what ever. You forced it. Its going to die again, dont be a cheap ass, its telling you theres a weekness, its the first sign, the battery needs service or replacement. Its NOT AI, cmon....Its a sensor. not magic. Pull the battery, take it apart, replace the any one or two of the 14 cells you can buy online. All you need is a torx bit and a soldering iron at most...

Most of the problems with batteries videos I've seen are with lawnmowers. Maybe they are surging and damaging the batteries

Put in in the fridge for about an hour then recharge it. Place it back in the fridge for another hour then use it.

Well, this actually worked. I picked up a mower and two batteries ($180) that I wanted to use for bagging leaves ( have a robotic mower for mowing the lawn). When I tried charging the battery when I got home it only gave a red light. Putting in the charger gave a green, orange, red sequence and it would not charge. I tried it in the original fast charger. The fast charger that came with my snowblower. And a slow charger. Same result. I inserted it a few times in the original fast charger until I heard the fan stay on. I took it off the next morning and the charger's gauge showed it was charged but if I pressed the button on the battery it had a red light. I used the battery with my 650 cfm leafblower for about 5-10 minutes (it was a small job and I only pulsed the turbo button a few times). I put the battery back on the charger. The charger just started charging without any complaints. I took it off the fast charger after work and hit the gauge button. Now I had a green light and a charged battery. I'll try it with the leafblower and see how well it holds up.

It is the BMS doesn’t have a shut off protection and let’s it drain below the threshold by plugging in bunch of time, acts like a triggle charged it enough, you get voltage above threshold and then when you plug into mower you wake the bms up and then it will charge you can also open up and measure all the cells and check if they are balanced

Ego batteries just don't last. They are a convenient but very expensive way of maintaining your garden

Just get a 60v power supply just need to raise the voltage high enough that the smart charger will charge it...

Had my 5 year ego battery go completely dead today. My fault for that. Put it on the charger and it would show 25% for a second then go to 100% and not charge battery at all. Tried it on a different charger and same thing. I looked in the battery Manuel that came with the mower and it mentioned that if it’s too HOT it will not charge until temp comes down. Very warm here in Florida. So I put the battery in our fridge for about an hour, took it out and put it on the charger….. and it worked. It’s now charging!

The charger makes a start-up sound (fans blowing) whenever you plug it in from neutral, so after about a minute or so, with your depleted battery OFF of the charging unit, plug the charger into the wall. WHILE the charger is making it's start-up roar, quickly plug the battery into the charger, remove it, replug it, remove it, and replug it. Leaving it plugged after that, the charger should start it's whirring sound again as the battery flashes red, fully charging. After fully charging, quickly remove the battery and set it aside until you're ready for the next use. At that point, do your best to recharger PRIOR TO the battery fully depleting. This may improve your odds of successfully starting the charge sequence. I think it's worth it to buy a new battery so long as the mower is operational, but EGO's merciless customer support team will not budge or help you at all with your dead or faulty battery after the 3rd year.. For this reason, I hope a new electric mower company comes out and puts pressure on EGO to start being flexible with it's customers.

mine did this and i put it back in the mower and ran it until it died...probably 3-4 minutes...then for some reason it took the full charge...i had 3 different chargers and they all went 25% to 100% so i knew it wasn't the charger...i just totally drained it and it took the charge...I will try your way next time

So....on charger for a bit...take off...wait a bit...put on....wait a bit...(repeat 10-15 times)....put on mower....put on charger...put on mower....put on charger....repeat... when mower starts put it on charger. Right?

I had a situation where it was just holding red on the first square but your video made me at least take it on and off the charger a few times, back in the lawn mower, started it up, and once I put back on the charger, the lights were green again and left it on for the full charge. Thanks!

When you are connecting it to the smart charger 10, 15, 20 times, it's getting a small charge from the smart charger, which is then shutting down because the battery's just too depleted. Do that enough times and eventually the battery will be charged enough for the smart charger. You need a dumber battery charger. The smart chargers simply won't charge a battery that's too depleted. If you don't have a dumb charger, you can connect it to a car battery for 20 mins to bring the level up above the threshold--and then charge it with your smart charger as normal.

@John T - I have my choice of a gas or battery product for every outdoor job except for a snowthrower. This includes Ryobi’s new battery Zero Turn lawn product. I know you said that battery units are fine for smaller products but not ready for larger ones like a snowthrower but I would argue that Ryobi’s new Zero Turn lawn unit is significantly more sophisticated than a snowthrower. And the Zero Turn has been flawless so far and will literally outperform my garden tractor in every task I have compared including hauling two yard carts latched together full of tree limbs and yard waste. Here’s the bottom line for me. The reason the Stihl trimmer wouldn’t start the other day is because I always use the Ego so the Stihl just sits in the shed and the gas and spark plug needed to be replaced. The same goes for the Stihl chain saw and all the other gas equipment like leaf blowers, pole saws and hedge trimmers. Given a choice of which product to use I always choose the battery product. They are just so much easier to use while providing the same or superior performance. So when it’s time to replace my snow thrower I will undoubtedly choose a battery unit. I will however consider your experiences when selecting a vendor.
