    I don't know why they keep repeating the claim that Augereau only lost 5000 men, unless that's just the dead, since Marbot (who was there) said that Augereau went into action with 15,000 men and 12,500 of those became casualties. Certainly Augereau's corps was disbanded after the battle, which wouldn't have happened if it had only lost a third of its strength.

    I am confused as an itlalian: Tuscany is part of the exogamous-communitarian family but historically it was one of the richest and poltically vibrat regions in italy, especially in middle age , with city states and communes experience and citizen involded hell the first constitution was in tuscany in italy the only reason I coukld think he included that italian regiosn and didn't talk about how that was actually the most vibrant part for centuries it's because tuscany and emilia romangna are traditionally left wing/communist

    Again, Cuba was not the last colony in America, along with Puerto Rico, but was the last Spanish ultramarine territory, a General Captaincy, in America that got independence. Not colony, ok?

  • @sincensura111066
    @sincensura111066 18 дней назад

    Actually, Spain started to colonised territories in America, but then those territories were part of Spain, like ultramarine territories. Actually, Spain had viceroyalties in America: Viceroyalty of New Spain, Viceroyalty of Grenada, Viceroyalty of Peru, and Viceroyalty of Río de la Plata, divided in General Captaincies. So, talking about colonial Latin America is a huge mistake, and American universities have these awkward subject names. Absurd!

    They spoke Proto-Germanic, with each tribe having a variety of it that exhibited varying degrees of difference. This language eventually branched into Proto-West Germanic, Proto-East Germanic, and Proto-North Germanic (Norse) languages. The Eastern Germanic languages are now extinct, consisting of languages like Gothic, Vandalic, and Burgundian. The West Germanic languages split further into North Sea Germanic, Weser-Rhine Germanic, and Elbe Germanic. The Elbe languages are characterized by the language of ancestral to the later Lombardic, Alemannic, Bavarian and Thuringian dialects, during late antiquity and in the Middle Ages effected the neighboring West Central German dialects and later, in the form of High German/modern German, while Weser-Rhine Germanic includes the Central German languages, which further divide into West and East Central. The West Central group includes various Franconian languages, such as Dutch and Frankish, as well as Luxembourgish, Hunsrik (spoken in Brazil), and Hessian. The East Central Germanic languages include High Prussian, Silesian, Upper Saxon, Thuringian, and Lusatian. Some of these are considered dialects, while others are classified as languages, depending on whom you ask. They exhibit varying degrees of similarity with modern German. Returning to the West Germanic languages, the North Sea Germanic languages branched into Low German and Anglo-Frisian, which includes English and its various forms, as well as Frisian. Proto-North Germanic/Proto-Norse split into East and West Scandinavian languages, along with Gutnish. The East Scandinavian languages include Danish, Swedish, and the Dalecarlian languages like Moramål, Orsamål, and Elfdalian. However, Moramål and Orsamål are sometimes considered dialects of the surrounding Nordic languages, which is debated. The West Scandinavian languages are Norwegian, including Bokmål (written), though its classification as East or West Scandinavian is disputed due to its descent from Danish. Nynorsk (written), Trønder dialects, and other Norwegian dialects can sometimes be quite distinct from modern Norwegian. Additionally, there are Faroese and Icelandic languages. Another way to categorize the Nordic languages is into Continental and Insular groups. The Continental languages, which are not the full range just the big ones that are 100% classed as languages, include Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish, while the Insular languages consist of Faroese, Icelandic, the extinct Norn, and Greenlandic Norse, the Greenlandic Norse language was spoken in Greenland until the 15th century, while Norn was spoken in Orkney, Shetland, and Caithness in what is now Scotland until the 19th century. By the way, Proto-Germanic derives from Proto-Indo-European, but that's a complex topic if you want me to elaborate, @VideoLife146 I can. Edit: btw, that's not the Mongolian empire/khanate/khaganate; it's the Huns who ruled their Hunnic khanate.

    It's a common missconception, that the naval race between the UK and Germany was one of the reasons of WW 1. But it is false. The Naval race stoppt 1912, when the German Reichstag stopped the budget for the German Navy and conceeded, that Germany was not able to compete with the UK.

    According to British historian Andrew Roberts who is one of, if not the world's foremost authority on Napoleon, we have the actual voting records of the referendums in the French national archives. And they show that he won about 80% and claimed 95%. People who call him an unelected tyrant don't understand just how insanely popular he was.

    Hey man, I know this video is now 10 months old, but your channel found me now and a Catalan with a greatgrandfather that fought in the war and grandparents from both sides who suffered the effects of the post war, I want to weigh in (I don't even know if you will read this). Some important points that I feel I need to bring up: -At 18:55 Ezekiel makes a mistake. Franco actually KNEW that the French wouldn't attack, because french diplomats had told him. This is why he didn't take Valencia in 1937 when he could or headed towards Toledo instead of Madrid in 1936: victory was 100% assured at this point. Franco wanted to inflict as many casualities as possible to the Republicans. At this point war is won, so his efforts were put into 1) Completely annihilating the opposition that would remain, inflicting as much damage as possible 2) Assuring a political network that he could control and would remain loyal to him. - At 22:00 even tho you make comment of it, the battle of the Ebro has the most haunting, horrifying and downright nightmarish descriptions by survivors from both sides. My greatgrandfather participated in the republican side and was captured at night while rebuilding a bridge, which brings me to.. -25:50 Ezekiel really droped the ball here, or this might just be a case of "winners write history" because holy shit the sympathy and good light given to the fascist side is insane. The "labour" camps where built THROUGHOUT the entire conflict the moment the fascists divided the north. Calling them labour camps is also extremely sympathetic because they were straight up extermination camps. Reports show figures that obviously both sides never agree to, but the lowball places the deaths in camps around 300 thousand. In fact, it became ridiculously unsustainable for a post war Spain, so Franco exported prisoners to Death Camps in Nazi Germany. My family has kept records of the train that took my greatgrandfather to Mauthausen-Gusen, which he miraculously survived and managed to come back from, weighing less than 45 kg at 191cm (he died at 97 years old, everyone in the family always said that the man was made of stone). I know it's extremely hard for anyone within Spain to not be biased towards one side, but it is so evident to me watching the foreign understanding of the conflict that the fascists not only won the war over the land but also over the information... Spain, today in 2024 still doesn't recognize most extermination camp deports, sure, it's making ammends (the full list here, it's spanish but very easy to make out): www.mpr.gob.es/memoriademocratica/ayudas-a-las-victimas/Paginas/fallecidos-espanioles.aspx which is pathetic considering how many "missing" people are just tossed asside from the republican side. I hope my comment doesn't come off as overtly aggressive, this topic is difficul to address without getting emotions and personal opinion involved, just wanted to clarify some things and bring some of the history of my greatgrandfather, who I deeply respect and his family which sadly will probably never have most of them ever recieving a proper burial/confirmation of death. Thanks for covering this topic, the interest of foreign people in the civil war is always refreshing.
