House of Sankofa
Южно-Африканская Республика
Добавлен 1 окт 2022
Sankofa is an expression derived from the Twi language of Ghana. It highlights the importance of going back and retrieving knowledge gained from the past and bringing it into the present in order to move forward in positive light.
On House of Sankofa, we are attempting to bridge this gap through conversations around music, spirituality and culture. We will be looking into the common threads that connect Africans within the continent and the diaspora.
In many ways, we have forsaken our very being as Africans and it is important for us to realize this derailment. We therefore need to get back on course because at the very center of our existence is our cultural heritage. It defines the very essence of who we are.
Let’s go back and retrieve so we can move forward in light and love.

Like most people, I could start by saying I was born into a musical family. I would not be lying, given that my grandfather used to play the saxophone in a jazz band while they lived in Sophia Town, given that both my father and later on my step father were jazz album collectors. I can also say that I grew up surrounded by music. My neighborhood was alive with music, my formative years and the ...

Known as mmino wa thaba (Sotho/Tswana for ‘music of the mountains’), its traditional sound leans on indigeno...

Absolutely refreshing... the denoument does it for me. It takes immense courage to bare your soul like that, allowing the masses to connect with you on such a deep and authentic level. It was a moment that will resonate with many... truly refreshing... can't wait for the next round! #Selfish
Such a beautiful interview, so proud of Mlangeni 😊
the nice voice zwai❤
May I please get the title of the album referred to around 20:16
My brother 🔥🔥🔥
Kudala ndayithanda into entle eyenziwa by our old and our young in music. Linda Sikhakhane is a young black South African saxophonist and what I like of him is that he respect he's musically educated and respect his parents traditions and the local musicians he has met in his quest for a music career. AS an elder, little known, and predominantly unknown saxophonist from South Africa I always listen to his playing from the United Kingdom where I'm living. I'm of the generation of McCoy Mrubata and Ringo Madlingozi etc. and there were no schools of music for blacks, we simply taught ourselves or simply find ways to teach ourselves music in the Townships, but what transpired was always amazing. I live in the EU for 20 years now as a musician/teacher from the humble beginning of the Townships of South Africa, Cape Town in particular. I just don't want to say too much but Linda Sikhakhane's music is very rich in our African traditions and very jazzy!!! From very long time ago black South africans LOVE and APPRECIATE jazz, more especially OUR KIND of JAZZ!!!
wow - BAAGISANE - that's what's up!💯 Not just neighbours but people that build each other because that's what neighbours suppose to do.💟I enjoyed this conversation so much and I greatly respect both of you, brothers.
Beautiful conversation with the amazing Gontse. Looking forward to his new project. Another great one Bra Paul. We give t'anks!
Thanks for listening
Great conversation - thank you. The brother is talented. I appreciated his contribution to the collective SPAZA. The composition/ song Banna Ba Batsumi… 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽. I can’t wait for what his new project will bring…I foresee a levitation of the chakras 🪔
We look forward to your comments.

Mom Tu ❤❤❤I've learned a lot from this beautiful woman.I was one of her students ku AMAJIKA. but because of distance I couldn't continue with the rehearsal. 😢from Tembisa to Georgekogh by train at the age of 12😂I wasn't a child's play. Mam Tu is a very kind person ever.to me she was a mother that I never had ❤❤❤❤may God continue blessing u mama 💖
Mfundeni Mthembu, Sebespring and Sabs oh !!! That family is something else musically ....
How can i get tlokwe 's music?where can it get?anyone help please,
Max Hoba the legend
I just like these stories from Bra Caiphus, it's just that because of language I miss a lot. but doesn't matter so much. In particular I like it when he talks about the late bandleader/singer/saxophonist Victor Madoda Ndlazilwana because i never heard any musician talking about him. Bra Caiphus should write a book on this our past music history, it's very very important.
I never heard any band or musician making tribute to the great late Xhosa singer/saxophonist Victor Ndlazilwana including the great UHADI player/singer woman MADOSINI.
Wow, I love this interview!!! Babu Tlokwe Sehume is showing us to survive as African musicians on this earth. Pan African music could our hidden answer to all our problems!!! Europe and America etc. loves our African music. Thanks.
Great interview!!! But i expected to hear more of South African music like Onomathotholo Bayeza Kusasa, Bayeza, not jazz!!! But my friend is a real legend. Thanks.
I cant wait to see him live.❤
Great Story telling and lots of wisdom nuggets. What a GREAT GUEST AND INTERVIEW. 🎉Wow!! I enjoyed this, it didn’t fell like an interwiew it was more like a conversation.
I'm enjoying and learning.
Oooh Lord... kunomsindo Brenda... there is no stillness😢.... no peace.... isiwelewele.... Mmmm what an interview.....so much words of wisdom.
Who is the Victor? uBaba is speaking about? Dam sounds like a legend
For those who really get it
Great conversation always 🎉
Great Minisi!!! Lovely
Those lines are from great poet Saul Williams....There is no death there is only eternity
Afrikan attitude, salute! As one jazz proponent and teacher said: 'Jazz is the expression of the inner soul of Africans and their descendants".
Nonyangana. Love your music. Thank you Paul for bringing us this Legend.
Radio Bop is back and it's now called Radio Bop Africa, it's online radio!! The station with a mind of it's own!!
Give thanks ❤🔥💯🙌🙌
I first fell in love with her on "Woooooooooooooza woza weekend!" I must have been 4. It's been love since!
What I wanna know is are we already in 2025 or we are officially in 2024
Sacred Plek 👌 👍🏿
Legendary ..re leboha haholo ditloholo tsa Barena!!
This interview is incomplete without the inclusion of mamazala Letta Mbulu and how they met, marriage, kids, challenges on dealing and interacting with the public as a public figure and well known musician, and the ups and downs of the music industry in general etc. Any transfer or building of talent to further the legacy. Great show
❤Love his music. He's a blessing, a legend, a treasurer to this continent.Been waiting to hear atleast one of his interviews. I am blessed to see this one. Thanks to you my brother. He is a professional, and private about his personal life. Great one my brother. We tired of being exposed to these silly, oldies with no mannerism who hide behind the word "ku guga othandayo phrase" and would do embarrassing behavioral acts trying to be relevant. We all wish we grew or had such a wise family member amongst us. God bless your show.
Still crazy about all her songs from joyous celebration ❤❤❤
If possible, it will be notable and important if you could have a session like Tiny Desk program so that we can document the best of this South African Gems while their still alive. I just love the part wherein he plays on the piano, that is extra hot. Keep up the good work you are doing, just find a way to promote your work. because your content is rich.
Bab’ Ntuli is confusing two unrelated surnames. Ntuli - Sompisi, and Ntuli - Mhlalukwana aren’t related
" I've been through raging storms and scrounging sun, but you I survived," Thanks for such a testimony 🙏🏿
What a vital question: ONE thing that you can do 🎉🎉🎉
Great interview as always but my main issue is the sound quality, I think is about time you get a better space for purpose of output
I love Tu Nokwe a lot!!!!
Just a comment on the first 5 minutes, and democracy in general : it doesn't work, and not everyone conscious is really conscious up to the level of discernment (pearls to swine), and expecting other people to be able to elevate their consciousness to your level of awareness is a fallacy, not all of us have the same access to information or rather light, so expecting all of us to speak with a single voice is a lie and further than we may think, for democracy to work there has to be a lack of perfect knowledge in the game theory sense, for it to operate, there has to be a percentage of people that don't know enough for them to buy into the illusion of voting, or in other words to give up their power to the system. Blessings and light to you two, great episode so far.
