The Blackpool Film Collectors' Convention has been held in the resort since 1977 and is the UK's premier event for collectors of Movies released primarily on the Super 8 and 16mm film gauges. Taking place in November each year, the event is now a full weekend of film shows, the Saturday night Film Collectors' Dinner and the Sunday Film Fair.

Special effects supremo Ray Harryhausen was the after-dinner speaker at the 1988 Convention Dinner. As well as enthralling diners with stories and accounts of making his stop-motion films, Ray brought along several of the actual models used in his films including a Skeleton Sworsdman, the Ape Creature and the Moon Men.
