    Wow, I'm reading the comments, and its unfortunate that so many people have had negative experiences in this career. I have never been looked down on by a teacher or any staff member. The teachers have always treated me nice. When they threw parties, and there were leftovers, they would leave it all for me. Soda, food, cake, snacks, you name it. When a 5th grade teacher had a rough day with her class, I'd take a moment to listen to her and let her vent. Shoot, as I'm cleaning tables, the teacher would cry and let it all out. It was almost like therapy for her. And in terms of leadership, it has been a mixed bag over the years. Some principals would be neutral, some wouldn't care. But my latest principal backs me up 1000 percent. She can see the slackers and those that REALLY work. And the slackers that think that they can sham their way through life, well, they get to deal with her wrath. lol. And as far as training goes, I suppose it could have been better. I just paid attention along the way, all through the years. Use this technique on that, use this chemical on that area. It would be cool if there was a national janitorial test that we could take. And with a high score came the option to transfer to another state. I'm in southern California by the way.

    Just a word of advice. Janitor and Custodian are two different job descriptions. Janitors don't provide security or provode many duties a custodian does. This man doesn't use the word Janitor as his title if you notice.

      pinedo76 because saying janitor has a more stigmatic view to some people.

    • @os1channel
      @os1channel 2 года назад

      This man's job at the time of filming was Head Custodian. He started out as a Janitor. Janitor, custodian, maintenance, or housekeeper...the common denominator includes cleaning activities. Sure some titles may hold other duties or responsibilities but in our experience, it's different everywhere. The point is, whatever title is being used, the cleaning workers should be treated professionally, respectfully, and with dignity. In our training, we teach that "Janitor" is not a dirty word.

    • @pinedo76
      @pinedo76 2 года назад

      @@os1channel Again, They are HIGHLY different. Yes they both include cleaning. The difference is custodians holds a higher expectation, more experience in cleaning methods, machinery, floor care and expectations. Where as for a ianitor has one agenda that comes with the job, that's strictly cleaning. I'm a head Custodian, been in the field for over 20 years. I never mentioned anything about the word "Janitor" being a dirty name. As a Custodain being called one, it's disgraceful. Because a Custodian as previously mentioned has alot more duties and responsibilities. This is probably why theirs a gap in pay as well. Typically a Custodian makes more. Goto a mall, when they higher cleaning personal, it's labeled as a janitor, goto a school district, it's Custodian, a hospital or hotel it's house keeper. You don't see janitors in a mall stripping and waxing floors, they have a floor crew,same with a hospital or even a casino. Again, as a Custodian, you learn all that, weather it's concrete, wood or tile. Even when it comes to carpet, Custodians use different techniques,extraction, spot removal,bonnet the list goes on. Theirs a variety of equipment and machines a Custodian uses that a janitor doesn't. Again, I'm not saying a janitor is a dirty word but do you call a police officer a security guard or vise versa? No.

I am not a head custodian, but ever since I started with the Belton, MO school district, I have gave it my all to do my best. Yes, at times I get looked down upon, but when I have had a steady run, I have made pretty great relationships with my teachers. It really would be great if we could, as a whole, be consistent as a group, and be better recognized. 😄

    Major problems at my University. Micromanaging. No respect for sure, Supervisors who never even did the job, and still to this day don't know how to strip and wax a floor. Very low work morale. Freeze hiring creating more work as the University grows, spreading everyone thin, falsifying evaluations after we sign them they turn them into human resources with their comments written in, that we had no knowledge of. Not allowed to take a shampoo machine home, but getting text messages while I am home relaxing I get a text from my supervisor I need the machine I bought a new house, so I don't want you to think it was stolen, but if I did that cause for termination.

    It must be done like this. It really stinks and waists so much time when it is all twisted. 4 min or less time the more you do it is better than the bad job you get fighting it. Twisted cord is also a sing that proper hip technique is not being done. And over time thid can cause back injures.

    Jay, keep in mind that ManageMen/(OS1) are third party to our clients (i.e. Wake Forest Universtiy). We have no authority in how they compensate their employees. Generally speaking, in cleaning teams, we do suggest that they rotate and are cross-trained in all the specialties so that if someone is absent, someone else could fill in for the night.

  • @jaycoca1417
    @jaycoca1417 11 лет назад

    ok i understand..... are they all paid the same? restroom person vs. vaccum person or what ? do they rotate every so often so that 1 person doesnt get stuck doin restrooms all the time? is it based on senority? what happens if 1 or more are absent or on vacation?do they get repetitive job injuries if they do the same task all the time? what if 1 finishes earlier than the the others does he help out or what? if so seems like he would be doing extra work over his co workers?

  • @os1channel
    @os1channel 11 лет назад

    (OS1) is based on team cleaning, and it is not a new concept. In team cleaning, there are 4 specialists on a cleaning team (Light Duty, Vacuum, Restroom and Utility). All tools and equipment that each specialist/cleaning worker uses is tracked for proper use, cleanliness and working condition by the management and/or training department. All I can say is, (OS1) is operating in many different union environments across the nation and this is not an issue for them.

    Actually, You may have noticed that this video is set up to be utilized as a quick training video. While the video length is indeed 4 minutes, he's doing a lot of talking and explaining while he's demonstrating how to properly wind the cord. Obviously, he would not take 4 minutes to wind the cord each time if he was a Janitor out on the floor.

    @denkar2009 It's up to the end user(districts, head custodians, etc) to decide whether or not they want to do (OS1). It sounds like which ever district or school you work in has it's own plan...and that's great. Of course, we are going to be advocates of our program because we have data that proves that it does work. However, we certainly don't go around forcing people to do (OS1). We only get involved if someone asks for our help or expresses some kind of interest in our program.

  • @os1channel
    @os1channel 13 лет назад

    @denkar2009 Not sure what meeting you are referring to exactly. Every meeting that we (ManageMen) have been invited to, and known about...we've shown up. The initial meeting with the district/head custodians we were supposed to have, we were told was canceled and not to come. The 2nd meeting we had was supposed to be out at the central warehouse, we showed up...and nobody else did. The 3rd meeting was out at Taylorsville High with a handful of head custodians in the district.
