Everytime I see some one get data off an old hard drive I always hear proprietary software or "professional software" why not name the program so I can get the data off myself?

OMG. I used to work on these years ago -- developing BIOS for WD Hard Drives. If i had a problem, I'd pull out another drives board and put it on the one I wanted to recover. Then return it after i got any data i wanted.

I am having this very same issue with an external seagate drive. In both the dock it came in and in another. The power light won’t even light up. So I need a logic board it looks like. Or is that simple fix not possible and also keeping the files on the drive I need ?
