As articulated, geared locomotives Shays are impressive beasts. Built to run on rough timber tramways hauling logs out of mountain forests, the Cass Scenic Railroad almost fits that description, however, it is built to standard gauge with high quality mainline-standard track. The locomotives themselves are well maintained and run like sewing machines.
