Ever hear beagles? They are quite melodious.
The sound could also be hurting their ears as a dogs hearing is much more sensitive of pitch than a human.

harmonica doesn't hurt dogs' ears. dogs like to participate in what the humans in the room are doing.. dogs howl to guitar music too btw. mostly any instrument.
Apparently animals do not support the sound of harmonicas, I saw it on Belgian TV where a guy was scaring wild animals with it, do not use it near your dog please :S

People are saying that harmonicas hurt their ears but I see their tails wagging and ears up. The other dog even came into the room to join in. It's definitely something that excites them otherwise they would be cowering with their tales between their legs trying to get away from the source of sound.
I'm not sure if they hurt their ears or not but just because a dog's wagging his tail doesn't mean he's happy. They wag their tails when they're pissed off too.

The dog thinks that the harmonica is a howling sound; that's why it responds by howling. It's instinctive behaviour.

+Poisontype The Junglist I love how people anthropomorphise and then someone else comes along thinking their anthropomorphising is more accurate. If you knew anything about how wolves work in the wild you would know the howl is to make the pack appear larger, they all howl slightly off pitch to each other creating the impression of more animals. Why they howl to high pitch frequencies in a safe environment is open to debate but singing is as good a name for it as anything else. Especially as they give every appearance of enjoying it. If they were howling in the wild it wouldn't be for fun. But, of course, I'm sure you can read their minds and enlighten us all.

My husky is just laying there. She doesn't howl or bark. Only if there's another dog walking by she makes sound.
Huskies are the champions of howling in the dog world.
