Quackcast 713 - Gunwallace, Master Composer
Today we have onboard with us our resident theme maker, our classic composer and musical genius! He does all the DD comic inspired themes that regularly appear on the Quackcast and has done so for the last 10 years! In that time he's done almost 600 musical themes. At the moment Gunwallace is the games-master of a Star Trek roleplay thing that Tantz, Banes, and I all do after the cast. He's based an illustrated story on it called “On the Edge” with art by Banes and Genejoke, and some by Tantz and me, Ozoneocean.
Gunwallace is a multi-talented creator, artist, writer, musician, composer, author, cook, and mixologist! This hale and hearty, towering example of a New Zealander has been postin...

Quackcast 712 - Guncast

This week we're talking the development of weapons, tactics and armour over the millennia. This is a fun little overview of everything from ancient stone weapons, to bronze, to iron, steel, guns, tanks, and jet-fighters and all the interesting stuff in between. Comic stories often involve literal conflict whether set in the past, the present, future, or fantasy and Scifi, so overviews are alway...
Quackcast 711 - Lost Boys

Halloween is on the way and we always do something different for it. This time we're doing a commentary for the 1987 vampire movie The Lost Boys! We even dressed in Lost Boys themed outfits for the Patreon vid which we will make available to ALL Patrons (even free ones), as a treat. The Lost Boys is an interesting comedy horror vampire film, it distils a LOT of really big 1980s style trends and...
Quackcast 710 - Ducks in in the wind

-Cover image: female Sagittarius silhouette pic by Tantz that only took a moment to create but its impact was way larger! The fleeting greatness ducks of in the wind! This is a weird one based on a notion I had: Life and experience isn't typically based on long moments, rather it's all based on very short, lightning quick highlights: a song that lasts 3 minutes is massively striking and importa...
Quackcast 709 - Dragons!
Просмотров 30Месяц назад
Dragons are cool, aren't they? That's our subject for today, specifically the giant, monstrous beasties of myth, fantasy, and legend. They can be evil, they can be clever, they can be animalistic and wild, they can be friendly, they can be wise and all knowing, there's absolutely no common personality to dragons at all. There's this old idea that there are “Western” and “Eastern” dragons in myt...
Quackcast 708 - Cyberpunk
Просмотров 15Месяц назад
Cyberpunk is a cool genre we have never covered exclusively on a Quackcast before. But what IS cyberpunk? It's a subset of SciFi, it's usually near future, involves body modifications, grittiness, street level computer use, techno body modification, and hacking. At least that's the way it started. Formative influences on the cyberpunk genre were the first Tron movie, Bladerunner, and Escape fro...
Quackcast 707 - Fight Choreography
Просмотров 16Месяц назад
Fight choreography is tricky. We have it in comics, plays, movies and TV. When it's in full motion the trick is that you cant usually show things connecting so you have to work around the safety aspects in various ways. In comics you can show things connecting but how do you make the movement and the narrative believable and exciting just by using still images? It takes a lot of skill! Animatio...
Quackcast 706 - wrong
Просмотров 9Месяц назад
Being right on the internet is Sooo important… Being right in life and at all times is essential too! At least that's how a lot of us tend to think. Being told we're wrong, especially on the internet, can be so embarrassing and shameful that we try and avoid it at all costs. But realising you're wrong and being able to admit it and to learn from your mistakes is actually more empowering, powerf...

Today we're talking about setting the scene and communication through the art on the panel. It's a simple yet complex subject- how do you compose the scene to better communicate all the stuff like which character is more important, who's to be feared, if a person is coming or going, fight scenes etc. How do you compose stuff? Movie directors are a good thing to follow because it's a related art...

The topic we're talking about today was inspired by my ruminations on Bullshido martial arts promo demonstration videos. These are the videos where a martial arts master shows off their skill in a patently fake demonstration, usually starting with breaking concrete slabs or wood and then progressing to a performance where they show how easily they can defeat all of their students who try and at...
Quackcast 703 - Cross Cultural Influence

Cross cultural influence is a marvellous thing and very enriching to creativity! It's lovely when you can see multiple cultural influences in things, whether comics, movies, art, fashion, music or anything else. It's inspiring and leads to new and more interesting things. I picked promo images from some recent Pixar movies Turning Red, Encanto, Coco, and Moana, because they're good examples of ...
Quackcast 702 - Expression-cast
Просмотров 32 месяца назад
Following on from last week with our Quackcast on faces, this week we're chatting about expressions, which is a very natural progression! expressions are a great way to enhance communication in comics. they can be fun to play with but tricky to master. Though when you get them right they really help lift your game. Exaggerated expressions are seen more in cartoony work rather than realistic sty...
Quackcast 701 - Faces come out in the rain...
Просмотров 52 месяца назад
Drawing faces is one of the most natural things for us to do, and they're very easy for people to see that they're faces because animals are evolved especially to be able to see faces- people mistakenly think this is just a human thing but it's clearly something that happened much earlier. We're so good at seeing faces we see them where they don't exist (paradolia). So drawing them for comics s...
Quackcast 700 - Mythcast part 2

We chatted about Greek Myths last week and found the subject so interesting that we thought we'd do a part two! So even MORE Greek myth stuff for Quackcast 700. There are just so many great stories like the myth of the Hydra and how it was so hard to kill because when one of its many heads were cut off it would just grow another one. Or the Minotaur that was trapped in a labyrinth under the pal...
Quackcast 699 - Greek Myths!
Просмотров 1103 месяца назад
We're chatting about our fave Greek myths! Greek myths are foundational to a lot of Western culture, they're what superheroes are based on as well as all sorts of epic stories. Lots of scientific concepts and ideas are based on things from mythology. The stories resonate down through the millennia because they're so relatable and human- rather than being about stodgy perfect beings who live in ...

Any speculations of the new outfit of Kirsha Brackets here?
I haven't been keeping up with it for a while but she looking pretty cool 😁
@@Theduckwebcomics In case you haven’t noticed, I created a Kisekae version of Kirsha herself, along with her family, Mona, Arielle, and Lowland. I also gave all seven of those characters each a new outfit, Kirsha’s new outfit will soon be making it to the Kirsha’s home comic series.
@@Blessranger they're great designs!
Definetely cool! Ready for Black Parade 🖤🎉?
Those tight trousers are hard on the boys .
i may sound dumb but where did you get the uniform (i know im late..)
@@holgerschmidt2297 I put it together over a long period. The jackets were originally made by Sutlers UK but I modified them heavily, adding extra braid, buttons and fur. The trousers are from a British Lancer, and so on 😅 It took a long time, lots of money and sewing.
@@Theduckwebcomics okay thanks
Absolutely Stunning Uniform.👌🏻
Thankyou xx
One issue you have a french hussar tunic but close enough but Napoleonic war busby for Prussia actually a shako with black feathers on top with jolly Roger skull
Haha! The uniform is my own idealised creation, taking features I want from wherever, which is actually ironically more period accurate than something that follows a manual precisely because an officer with wealth and a bit of rank would tend to do exactly that in the field if they had the independence and freedom to do that. That's not a shako but my own style of busby (or Kolpak or Pelzmutze) made with the feathers from a Scot's Piper's feather bonnet. The skull is a is a standard Prussian totenkopf. I DO however also have a bell-top shako with a feathered crest, and the skull on that is from the black Brunswickers, another Napoleonic German force- not a jolly roger :)

Ozoneocean, I'm glad you prefer the original Boba Fett...I very much enjoyed introducing and animating him in the Star Wars Holiday Special.
That makes you a national treasure ❤️
@@Theduckwebcomics Thank you for saying that! ☺️
Never lose your smile
Great German Army ever😊
Sorry bro for saying it but your channel is dead maybe if you go back to the hussar uniform it might get revived and also make shorts
Thanks for the comment ☺️ I haven't really been worried about about that sort of thing for a while and now I just use it as a podcast backup 😅 I might do more hussar stuff
*PromoSM*
11th Hussar, Prince Albert's Own. Try that as a challenge?
I love the redbums ❤️
Looks like SocialResponse from different reality
Cool
Классный прикид.😊
a white plume would look good on the L side of your busby
You're absolutely right, that's a great suggestion!
Where did you get your beautiful uniform made? And you look GREAT in it
Thankyou! I had to assemble it myself from parts. The jackets were initially made by Sutkers UK but I had to do a lot of alterations and additions.
Hessian boots or Hungarian? The boots looked GREAT----the pants look like someone is going to a dance and the britches with austrian knots etc looked GREAT too
The boys I typically wear are ankle boots, these wear popular from around the end of the Napoleonic war, to match the civilian fashions of the day.
Happy new year dude 😁
Happy new year too you too!
I animated on the original She-Ra and He-Man TV series in the 1980s.
The best periods of the series. That was the look that created the characters!
You should bring back the hussar uniforms videos you probably spent a shit load of money on them also they bring more views 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃
Hahaha! Yeah it's weird that my account is combined with my comics stuff and that 😅
@@TheduckwebcomicsFr now you should probably attend a reenactment and film it 🤔
You're beautiful :3
Thankyou so much, that's kind of you to say 😊
@@Theduckwebcomics I want to make a hussar uniform and searched video about it on your channel, but I didn't found it. Can you give me some advice about sewing those clothes?
@@Marta-se5do . There's a polish channel where they advertise the company that sells them.... I think they sell the patterns as well.
Badass. 😍
Thankyou
make british 33rd lol
Love the shako!!!
Thankyou 😁

Wow...lame video...can you plz upgrade this crappy VIDEO? like.....no zoom and shit..........looks awful. zero money for u!
Man that uniform is beautiful. The Dolman style of jackets have always appealed to me. But i can imagine it´s a pain in the ass getting it all on.
Thankyou! It used to be but these days I get it in and off very quickly 😅 In fact the other day I was knocked unconcious in a riding accident and I totally stripped it all off, put it all neatly away and dressed myself in my normal clothes again by the time my brain started working again 😅
Nice movie and sabre !! Gretings from Poland... szablotłuk polski
😆
😃
Cool stuff bro, looks amazing.
Thankyou ❤️
PREPARE YOUR EYES THE MILITARY LARPERS ARE COMING
😁
Красивая форма
😁
What kind of hussar are your dressed as? Country/period - idk if this is an ignorant question lol
It's a fantasy on the idea of "the Hussar", so it's a mix of a few styles in order to be my own perfect hussar. Mainly here there's Lieb Hussar and a bit of the French Hussurd Du Mort. The style is the first half of the 19th century, after Waterloo. ... 1815- 1830, when uniforms became a lot more decorated.
Prussian Hussars Best damage💀👍😎
HUSSAR!
I always thought sir richard burton was such an interesting character
Great thumbnail boss!
Thanks man 😁
happy new year to you sir!
Happy new year!
Just unraped my 11th hussars jacket the other day...beautiful...happy christmas sir!
Merry Christmas! The 11th is a beautiful style!
@@Theduckwebcomics Thanks mr duck, it is great ....bought some models of napoleonic era french hussars to paint over the winter,im a wargamer, and the pelease...is that the right word..that those chaps wear...nobody has the guts these days...i bet even adam ant would be impressed!
Every detail and purchase that went into this is truly inspiring to me. I am wishing to build my own wardrobe; it'd be nice to greet you in my most formal civilian dress; I'm sure we'd both be the only ones courageous enough to wear a cape, ha ha.
Oh indeed. Unashamedly 😁
Well, I don't know wether you are actually riders/horsemen, but in the use of sabers you should always take into account the sheer momentum of your steed in making the slashing cuts against your target/hapless opponent. Adding to that is the use of your muscles (especially shoulders and rump) in controlling/reacting to your trusted fourlegged friend which gives you a far better overall muscular advantage against, say the unhappy footslogger you are supposed to charge... Add to these points (chuckle) that most modern replicas are way to heavy and badly balanced in comparison to the original items, and I do have handled both, so I know what I'm talking about! The original sabers/swords are surprisingly well balanced, light and allow surprisingly swift action!!! (Really scaring, actually! You wouldn't like to face them with the modern stuff...) Really enjoy your reels, keep it up!
Thankyou 😁 Yes, I have a number of originals and one replica. They're not that different in weight though the replica isn't as nice to swing. I used to ride a lot but I've never ridden in this outfit.
@@Theduckwebcomics pity you havn't ridden in full splendour! As to replicas, I found them always a lot more heavy than the original swords, usually being made for the looks only and not for serious action, where weight, blade quality and balance will win the day (or just save your life, basically the same...) Many replicas being simply an insult to the fencer...
🙃🙃😃😃😃😃
Utterly bonkers! 10 out of 10 for the soundtrack.
The real expensive part is the mount and its saddle & accotrements...
