There's no placement as such at IISERs, you have search for options yourself and apply. I applied via Weizmann vacancies portal and cleared the interviews to do a MS project at WIS. Same applies for PhD applications.

Hi! So I was 17 when I joined IISER like most folks who are usually around 17-19 when they join (IISER only allows upto 2nd droppers to appear, in 2019 they only allowed first droppers), so you can do the math. Coming to point two, I've made two dedicated videos to this topic, go watch them for detailed answers but in short about ~80% go for a PhD either in India or Abroad (Stop underestimating PhDs in India, the only con of doing a PhD in India is low salary), most still prefer to go for a PhD abroad, rest go for MBA, industry etc. Regarding the internship and master's studies opportunities, there are plenty of options, and a lot of students take advantage of these. E.g. I wasn't the only one of the batch to get a position in Israel for MS, there were two of us, also I didn't go for any foreign summer internships like a lot of folks, many go for DAAD, Mitacs etc. So yeah a lot of students at IISERs get such opportunities to get hands-on exposure. I've some comments to make regarding IISERs are alternatives for IIT/AIIMS. In my opinion, IISERs are NOT an alternative for these paths; it's an apples-to-oranges comparison.

Thanks! Yeah, was hell of a ride from COVID to a warzone to Berlin.

COVID happened before we could even experience our first college fest called Inquivesta; this was conducted in 2023 on a much smaller (video on the channel of Inquivesta X); I was absent on campus for subsequent fests. Also, regarding cultural events, there were a lot of cultural celebrations like Onam, Utkal divas, etc. I did not include these here as I did not want a 30-minute video.

Most PhDs at Max Plancks take around 4.5 years. Though there is a possibility of extension.

Depends you can continue in Academia and become a Professor or join industry, there is growing demand for scientists in RnD industry in Europe. Good thing about being in Europe is the job security and other social benefits.

I would say right now just relax, after your class 10th prepare for IISER Aptitude Test and NISER NEST, get into any of the premier science institutions in India and then you can think about joining an MPI, right now just enjoy life, you'll look back on these with nostalgia.

See, I finished with a 9.1 CGPA. I'd say if your CGPA is above 8 then it doesn't matter much. It is your research experience that counts

For students and their immediate family (upto 4 members) is Rs.400 per day, for other relatives it is around Rs. 2000 per day.

Standard Max Planck Salary for PhD, that is around 2.2k euro per month after taxes.

All BS-MS students are given hostels. Actually it is compulsory for all BS-MS students at IISER to stay in the alloted hostels, you can't even live outside even if you wanted to, this rule doesn't apply to 2 yr MS and PhD students, who can live outside if they want as there is a lack of hostels rooms in IISER-K

You usually will get what ever major you wish BUT if there are a lot of people applying for a given major, say for Physics major then there will be a selection based on merit list, this merit list depends on your overall CGPA and your grades in subject of that major. Usually there is cutoff only for physics and biology as a lot more people apply for them than the department can handle. To clarify, consider this example, say you want Chemistry major, say there are X number of seats in Department of Chemistry then there are two possibilities 1) Less than X number of students apply for Chemistry major, in this case you will get Chemistry without any consideration to CGPA. 2) More than X number of people apply for Chemistry, then there will be a merit list (prepared on basis of CGPA and Grades in Chemistry courses), in this case to get Chemistry you have to be within top X rank of the said merit list.

@ALalitha-s6x Congratulations on getting selected to IISER-K! I'd suggest emailing the IISER-K guest house at guest.house@iiserkol.ac.in if that is not available I'd suggest you can book a room in hotels in front of AIIMS Gate about 600m from Secondary gate of IISER. There are hotels near Secondary gate but they are slightly more expensive and tend to get full booked during admission season. I'd suggest you lookup hotels near IISER on GMaps.

Honestly, I don't have any idea about this, I'd suggest you contact admission desk of IISER about this matter. However, in my opinion this should not be much of an issue.

That is a very subjective question. Now the choice between Kolkata and Pune would depend on many factors. Pune campus is urban with better connectivity whereas Kolkata campus is rural and relatively hard to get to. However, Kolkata has better alumni network by far, and is ranked better than Pune in Nature Index. Also, Pune campus is smaller and more of a concrete jungle whereas Kolkata has a bigger greener campus. Personally, I took Kolkata over Pune as it is considered the best for Physics and Chemistry, Pune being considered best for Biology. Campus life in both campus is similar though Pune being urban is a bit more active. The choice depends on one's preferences.

So there are few shops in the basement of the main mess building, there is also a night canteen there. There is a convience stores near the back gate area (Gate 7 area) called Aarambagh Foodmart. Near Gate 7 there is a small vegetable market, some grocery stores, some book stores, medical stores, restaurants and fast food stalls. There is also a Mall near Gate 7 called the Dolphin Mall.

Direct BS-MS ke baad job karne ka jyada option ni hai. PhD, MBA karna hoga to earn good salary. Else, IISER-K me campus placement bahut kam hota hai. But hain agar PhD karoge to PhD ke time hi acha salary mil jayega

Mostly abroad prefer karte hain, India me ya to IISER me ya fir IISc, TIFR, HRI etc me PhD karna prefer karte hain. IISER se BS-MS karne ke baad IIT me PhD karne ka sense nahi banta until you are switching to Enginnering, for example mere batch me kuch log BS-MS physics me karke PhD Computer science me kar rahe IIT KGP me
