    Actually, the AK fire-selector lever was designed so that it could be pushed down all the way in one swoop under combat stress. This is a lot easier to do than manipulate it notch by notch. Hence, when the safety level is pushed down all the way, it is in the semi-auto position to conserve ammunition. For full-auto fire, it takes a more deliberate decision to move it up one notch.

    People can debate all day about which is better....All im saying is, you NEVER hear about soldiers throwing their aks to the side to pick up ar15/m16s.... ijs

    • @JETZcorp
      @JETZcorp 6 лет назад

      Mr Wunderful The kill ratios are like 10 to 1. There simply are not a lot of M16s laying around to pick up. What you do see a lit of is militaries switching from AK platforms to AR platforms. No country has ever ditched their M16/M4 to adopt AKs.

    • @soulbrother1143
      @soulbrother1143 6 лет назад

      JETZcorp I never said COUNTRY...I said SOLDIERS.....and most countries don't switch from ak platforms to ar platforms neither, unless they join NATO which I believe the standard rifle is the ar platflorm for their soliders......there's a reason why countries have been and continue to arm themselves with the ak platform since the 1950s and it's not only because of the expense.. there was a reason the ak was among the leading exports out of the Soviet union...

    • @JETZcorp
      @JETZcorp 6 лет назад

      Mr Wunderful I know you didn't say country. The reason individual soldiers don't ditch their AKs for fallen M4s and M16s is that there simply are not many of those guns laying around on battlefields. The forces carrying those rifles typically have a 10:1 kill ratio against the untrained farmers and terrorists and revolutionaries who actually use AKs in combat. Now I'm sure in like 1965 you had guys in Nam wanting to get out from under their early non-chromed, overgassed XM16E1 which the Army had issued with the wrong ammo and no cleaning kit. By the time the M16A1 was issued the way the rifle was supposed to be from the beginning, they were extremely reliable. And honestly, if you're a soldier with 400 rounds of 5.56 on you, what the hell are you going to do with an AK anyway? Spray the bushes once with the AK you found, then toss it back in the swamp and keep using the rifle you have ammo for. My point was, in modern times, when there is the option to choose either platform, anyone that van get M16s, uses M16s.

    • @soulbrother1143
      @soulbrother1143 6 лет назад

      JETZcorp ..they are not laying around on modern battlefields I'll agree but it's because of the style of fighting America uses with air support mortar support etc. That soldiers are not as close to the action as let's say a Vietnam war, where I am absolutely sure there where plenty of ar platforms laying around..and the north vietnamese still didn't use them

    • @JETZcorp
      @JETZcorp 6 лет назад

      Mr Wunderful Well again, if you're VC or NVA and only have a bunch of 7.62 Soviet on you, an M16 with a half-empty mag isn't much use to you. No sense lugging that extra rifle fir 4 weeks until you see contact again, just to let off those 15 rounds and then toss it back in the mud. I'm sure there were situations where people on both sides picked up an enemy rifle in a firefight and sprayed the bushes before putting it down again. I'm sure some Germans even fired Mosins at Stalingrad, washing their hands afterwards. But there simply were not a large number of US troops lugging AKs around in Vietnam, and certainly not after the gross negligence/sabotage oversights in the early E1 rifles were corrected.

    Thanks for a few kind words... I can understand that M16 and AK-47 became arch-rivals in the world of local conflicts whole over the globe. However, once you go technical - you'd rather compare M16 with AK-74, as it shares the same concept of small-caliber high-velocity ammo. AK-74 is 60% compatible to old model, following its robust design and reliability, but it's chambered in 5.45 x 39 mm, it's lighter (3.3 kg = 7.25 lbs) and it's way more accurate in both full and semi auto - yet still packs a heavier punch.

    The m 16 was ahead of it's time, Yes it had serious problems, but they ironed those out . People who like the the ak and yes I do, It's old and I like old. but most modern militaries use some version of a 5.56 mm weapon. There are good 5.56 mm weapons like the hk 416 and other ar variants. Yes, the 5.56 mm round is very deadly and in battle that is all that counts.

      @cjhyde78 Yes ofcourse it just happens to be exactly what di's definition is but its still something more mystical and different than anything else. Reminds me of sjw logic. Just like ak people think it operates with piston but the truth is that it works with sheer power of soviet spirit.

  • @DarkShroom
    @DarkShroom 11 лет назад

    this guy says the ak47 has less range that is crap it has a bigger round

    • @gunfun007
      @gunfun007 10 лет назад

      yeah it has a bigger bullet, it also has a lower ratio for gun powder to bullet size, the 7.62 by 39 projectile of the AK only goes about 2300 feet per second while the 5.56 by 45 projectile of the M16 goes 3000 feet per second which improves the accuracy and rang of the projectile

    • @DarkShroom
      @DarkShroom 10 лет назад

      gunfun007 it has more momentum, or inertia, so even though it is slower it is heavier and therefore follows a more accurate trajectory. At worse it suffers more drop however this does not make less accurate. Also higher velocity causes more air resistance (and turbulence). Why do you think howitzers are accurate? And the us military themselves made this decision because they noted firing more ammo was more important than accuracy. This is not me this is like high school physics

    • @gunfun007
      @gunfun007 10 лет назад

      DarkShroom being slower the 7.62 is affected much more by variables such as wind or gravity and also the larger diameter is what causes more air resitance, the 5.56 has less air resistance because the projectile is smaller and has less contact points, it is also faster which means it requires a lot more force to change the trajectory, also i'm not trying to make the ak sound bad, i actually own an AK and it is amazing.

      @macy725 9 лет назад

      La Drang. ACogs weren't around in the Vietnam and most soldiers didn't have body armor. In Vietnam, sniper rifles were almost always just regular hunting rifles. You really don't have a grasp of the technology back then. And the NVA had plenty of machine guns.

    • @macy725
      @macy725 9 лет назад

      I know you are an expert on the battle because you watched the movie. But the NVA neutralized most of that by engaging at close range. Just accept that the NVA were inferior weapons and the Ak didn't play a huge role in the fight. You are not making the argument any better. So even if the ak was "better", with such high body counts it didn't play a role in that.

    • @jarydmiddleton5828
      @jarydmiddleton5828 9 лет назад

      Does the ratio really matter if you lost though? Everything that happened meant nothing in end only a lot of dead people. The US was a better force with better tech but what is amazing is what the VC did with the little resources and training they had. I have been in some of the tunnels the VC used and m16 wouldn't have lasted long.

    @abntemplar82 11 лет назад

    having carried both the AK 47 and several versions of the M16 (m16a1/a2, car 15, m4) on a few operations I will say that each has its pros and cons. I also happen to own civilian versions of each. if I were to have to pick quickly for an emergency or shtf situation, my ar would be the first choice. not because it is better or worse than the ak, it is neither. The 556 round is very good a dropping people, trust me on this. the Ak is only slightly less accurate because the round is not as fast and the sight alignment is shorter (distance from rear to front sight very short on AK) but the real reason I would grab my AR first, the rounds are lighter so I can carry more of them and parts, ammo, and accessories are more common because the AR has the "home field advantage". Bottom line figure out what and why you need a rifle and go from there. if you are just shooting for fun both are great so buy both. if you want a rifle for a shtf or doomsday scenario look around and see what is around you. let your "mission" dictate what is in your hands not the youtube warriors. just fyi, you can make an AR/m16 as reliable as an AK just by adding a short stroke piston system. osprey osp 416 or Adams Arms systems both works well and are under $500. the osprey is easier to install.

    • @abntemplar82
      @abntemplar82 10 лет назад

      ***** true that, but with the new import ban getting 5.45 is going to get expensive and of course limited amount. i think at present, 10/11/14, the only American company to produce 5.45 is Hornady. i could be wrong on that but I don't know of any other. as for AR reliability, you are right as long as you maintain it. i still prefer keeping the chamber as clean and carbon free as possible. that is where the piston system is superior to the di.

    LOL, dont you know that Laos and Cambodia were also the battlefield? Haha, for example, Vietnam People's army had many bases in Cambodia so US and its pupet army had launched some ops bombing and attacking on ground these bases. For Laos, they also attacked. In 1973, Operation Lam Son 719 was launched to destroy enemy bases in Laos and cut off Hochiminh trail. US played role as supporter. Although they pushed deep inside Laos, this op became disaster to them, the ground force was beaten hard

  • @milkduds1001
    @milkduds1001 11 лет назад

    The could not bomb the Ho Chi Min Trail, it runs through Laos and Cambodia, that would be a directs attack on neutral countries and the US would go to war with both countries. The operations on the Ho Chi Min were the most dangerous and risky of the war. Helicopters were also of little use, remember the technology was still new. It had no stealth capabilities so it couldn't go deep behind enemy lines. Helicopters were only useful as front line weapons at the time.

  • @laxuanlong
    @laxuanlong 11 лет назад

    I told u, they only sent heli if the SpecOps team got exposed, during the VN war, Navy with their big cannons also strike on Ho Chi Minh trail, their aircraft also joint. They could even rescue the pilot shot down in North, so not hard if they want to deliver some support there.Ofcourse just in case the team get exposed which happened a lot to the Green berret when they jumped off the North VN, many times they were arrested by civilian when armed force didn't get there yet. Funny, right

    (Continued) 1 Slip up and you could bring another Nation into the war fighting against you. 1 Slip up and you could face nuclear Armageddon with Warsaw. Especially with the threat of Soviet Migs over the area, sending a helicopter or plane behind enemy lines is suicide and draws far too much attention.

  • @milkduds1001
    @milkduds1001 11 лет назад

    It depends on multiple things. For example, location of the mission. If you're talking about missions to the Hochimin Trail than you can't send in air units to aid them, otherwise it would put them at too great a risk. Plus, in missions going into Cambodia, US operations violated the neutrality of other Nations not a part of the war. Finally is profiling, which effects stealth. You send a very loud helicopter to do a stealth mission... Not very smart. It depended on the mission and location.
